WULF (2012-14) by Vic Hoyland , for 24 voices and 24 instrumentalists. Duration: c. 60 minutes Part I - WULF Part II - NJAL Part III - YSÉ Part IV - BHATA Vic Hoyland spent more than a year assembling the texts, before writing the music. While fragments of Homer's Iliad are central, Vic has drawn on diverse conflict texts from Livy, Icelandic sagas, Anglo-Saxon poetry, Rumanian, Polish and Scottish folk songs, plus 1917 Arras military records. The work has a spatial dimension and requires occasional amplification of the voices.

Full score for this work which was commissioned by the BBC for performance during the 100th season of Henry Wood Promenade Concerts. The first performance of this version was given in September 1995 at the ancient Theatre of Ephesus, Turkey, as part of the Revelation and Environment 95 Symposium, with Patricia Rozario, Martyn Hill, Stephen Richardson and members of the City of London Sinfonia conducted by the composer.
