The Augustin in questions is a ballad singer and an ad lib poet who apparently wrote this folksong about himself. His grim sense of humour and his attitude towards life, that humour can get you through anything, are readily apparent in this new piece. Gerald Oswald’s Variations on an Austrian Folk Song received top honours at the 2010 Austrian Composition Contest.

This work is an homage to the great man and the far-reaching impact of his invention that is still felt to this day.

Vidda : Solo for Trumpet and Brass Band

I composed the song "Vidda" after I got my ultimate boy's dream fulfilled; To fly one of the Air Force's F-16 fighter jets! We flew out from Norwegian city Bodø on to the Finnmark plateau, where we flew so-called "low level" (at low altitude). It was such a great experience for me that I immediately wrote the song "Vidda" based on my experience of the trip. Here, I try to describe the meeting between the technical perfection of a machine that surpasses most of the various forces in it’s escape through the magnificent scenery passing at great speed, and the pilot who is alone with both the adventure and responsibility. The drums which start the song is meant to describes theenergy in the power of the plane, while the lonely and kind of melancholy melody from the trumpet in the beginning describes the feelings of the pilot. As the song develop, we pass both the mountains and big beautiful plateaus with g-forces quivering body. Hopefully you will share some of my experiences through this song. Have a nice flight! Against the background of the July Revolution of 1830, two libretti were written for the Grand Opéra in Paris by Eugène Scribe, probably the best-known poet of the July Monarchy: “La Juive” and Les Huguenots'.Both operas are closely related to the politicial history of France.Fromental Halévy composed La Juive in 1835, and Giacomo Meyerbeer, “Les Huguenots” in 1836; there are almost identical passagesin the libretti of the two operas. From first sketch (1832/33) to the final version, the libretto of La Juive was extensively revised; even the allocation of roles was different in the beginning.“LaJuive” stands in the long tradition of operas going back to the 17th century, where the misdeeds of the powerful are held before our eyes as a warning and deterrent.The premiere took place on 23 February1835. The opera became a great success with the public and was vigorously discussed in the contemporary press. Alfonso und Estrella D 732Romatic Opera in 3 ActsIn late September or early October 1821 Schubert and his close friend, Franz von Schober, vacationed in the countryside of Lower Austria. Their first stopover was atOchsenburg Castle, which belonged to the Bishop of St. Pölten (a close relative of Schober’s), after which they moved on to St. Pölten itself. Roughly a year earlier, two stage works by Schubert had been performed in Vienna: theone-act singspiel Die Zwillingsbrüder and the melodrama Die Zauberharfe. The librettos were both written by the seasoned Viennese playwright Georg von Hofmann, who blamed the press for the indifferent reception the two worksweregiven by the audience. Schubert and Schober now decided, it would seem, to write a grand romantic opera uninfluenced by the workaday world of the theatre and beholden solely to their own ideas of what an opera shouldbe.Not until 24 June 1854 was the opera finally performed in Weimar, under the baton of Franz Liszt.
