Cobain On Cobain: Interviews & Encounters (Ed. Nick Soulsby)

Cobain On Cobain tells the fascinating story of Nirvana through Kurt's own words. Drawing on the most comprehensive compendium of interviews, editor Nick Soulsby traces the history of the band through five years from their first album in 1989 to their premature end in 1994. This definitive collection of Kurt's own words is a unique insight into the legendary band's trials and triumphs. This collection of in-depth interviews takes the reader on a journey through the band's rise to fame to their tragic end, in the eloquent, entertaining and often reluctant words of their iconic frontman, Kurt Cobain . Of course, the book wouldn't be complete without words by his Nirvana bandmates, but it's Cobain who was the driving force, and his uncompromising interviews tell a previously untold story.  Cobain On Cobain  features interviews from the early days of the band, in small-time music magazines and fanzines, where Kurt and the band are optimistic and fun-loving. Throughout their major label years, Kurt and the band reveal what life is like for quite possibly the biggest rock group on the planet. Many interviews include a brief note by the interviewer, giving valuable information about the circumstances surrounding the interaction. Cobain On Cobain  has been painstakingly edited by Nick Soulsby,  the author of 'I Found My Friends: The Oral History of Nirvana' and the coauthor of 'Dark Slivers: Seeing Nirvana in the Shards of Incesticide'. His website has become one of the most valuable Nirvana resources on the internet, making him best-placed to compile this collection of Kurt Cobain's most insightful interviews.

Electri_city: The Dusseldorf School Of Electronic Music

Electri_city: The Dusseldorf School Of Electronic Music is the definitive account of Düsseldorf's most influential electronic bands, including Kraftwerk, NEU!, La Düsseldorf, Rheingold, DAF, Propaganda and many others. Expertly written by Rudi Esch, bass player of industrial band Die Krupps, this is a fascinating insight into a secretive scene, woven from more than 50 exclusive interviews.  Esch has followed the trail of all those creative figureheads who shaped and lived through this era, as well as those who were genuinely influenced by it: bands like OMD, Heaven 17, Visage and Ultravox, all of whom became ambassadors of this revolutionary new form of music. Electri_city documents the history of electronic music from its early days in 1970 through to the end of the analogue phase in 1986. In this collection of revealing interviews, Rudi Esch firmly pins down the significance of  The Düsseldorf School , uncovering the myths and reality of the bands, musicians, managers, engineers and producers, as well as experts from the fields of art, advertising and fashion, who described the unique zeitgeist of the era. Interviewees include Michael Rother, Klaus Dinger, Wolfgang Flür, Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey (OMD), Martyn Ware (Human League), Glenn Gregory (Heaven 17), Rusty Egan (Visage), Ryuichi Sakamoto and producer Giorgio Moroder. What results is a collection of sharply-observed insights from the pioneers themselves, as well as some of their acolytes. As the Frankfurter Rundschau observed,  Electri_city is nothing less than "a contribution to pop history of fundamental status."

Fingerpicking Blues Guitar In The Key Of G

Fingerpicking Blues Guitar In The Key Of G

Fingerpicking Blues Guitar is a never ending study full of surprises and discoveries. Each key of the Guitar offers new sounds and textures. A blues played in the key of C sounds world's apart from a blues played in the keys of A, G, D or E. This series focuses on a single key for each lesson. The key of G offers specific advantages. It is ideal for the alternating bass technique i.e. Mississippi John Hurt's style of playing.   In this lesson, we start by learning an arrangement of Marshall Owens' 1930s recording of Try Me One More Time . This was originally played in an Open G tuning but is here arranged in standard tuning using a John Hurt approach. Not all blues from the 1920s and 1930s were fingerpicked. Jim Jackson was a popular Memphis songster who basically strummed his Guitar. But his repertoire was full of wonderful songs. Stefan Grossman has taken his Wild About My Loving and has tried to keep the original feel by combining a strum approach intermingled with fingerpicking the melody. Little Hat Jones was an amazing fingerstyle bluesman.   His Bye Bye Baby Blues was played in the key of G. Here his version is fully transcribed note for note. Blind Boy Fuller recorded many blues in the key of G. In this lesson we'll tackle three of his arrangements: Baby Let Me Lay It On You, Baby Quit Your Low Down Ways and I Crave My Pigmeat . We study his playing note for note but also explore variations. By the end of this lesson you will know six great tunes and have an insight in to fingerpicking blues in the key of G.   A detailed tab/music booklet is included as a PDF file on the DVD. Each tune is taught phrase by phrase and played slowly on a split-screen. As well, the original old recordings are included in the Bonus Audio section. Titles include: Try Me One More Time, Wild About My Loving, Bye Bye Baby Blues, Baby Let Me Lay It On You, Baby Quit Your Low Down Ways and I Crave My Pigmeat . 100 minutes • Level 2/3 • Detailed tab/music PDF file on the DVD.
