Thea Musgrave: Poets In Love

Thea Musgrave: Poets In Love

A song cycle for Tenor, Baritone and Piano four-hands.Commissioned by Dickinson College in 2008 for The Florestan Recital Project, Musical Artists in ResidenceFirst performance March 4, 2010 Dickinson College, PAThis work is dedicated to Don and Marilyn Conlan""The seventeen poems selected for this work span many centuries and languages and give very varied views on the subject of love. There is a mixture of solos and duets which also gives variety. Also there is a difference in the characterization of the two singers; the tenor is more romantic, and  the baritone more realistic and cynical. In the penultimate poem by Tyutchev, this  split is emphasized in the words ? ??, ????????? ??????! / T? ? ?????????? ?  ?????????????. (O love of my last years you are both rapture and desperation).  However both singers recognize the power of love. The work should be sung  without a break between the songs, and indeed several of the poems overlap. To  emphasize the continuity there are several recurring musical motives: in particular  the theme associated with the words from the Shakespeare poem in Twelfth Night  ?What is love??Hopefully the songs can be sung in the original languages (except for the poem from the Haida) however ?singable? translations have been provided.I  want to thank the many friends and colleagues who offered much appreciated advice on fully understanding the poems and thus their translations: Henry Garrity,  Lilian Groag, Gustavo Lopez Manzitti, Veronica Mitina, Alma Mora, Milen Nachev,  Rick Prins, Vic and Laura Sonnino and especially to Frank Dwyer, who suggested  the title of the work." - Thea MusgraveDuration: circa 30 minutes

Sing Out! 5 Pop Songs For Today's Choirs - Book 5 (Book/Download Card)

Sing Out! 5 Pop Songs For Today's Choirs - Book 5 (Book/Download Card)

Book 5 of the  Sing Out! series features wonderful new choral arrangements of five top pop tunes, all arranged by renowned Vocal Coach and Choral Director extraordinaire Mark De-Lisser. Each song has been beautifully arranged for SAT chorus, the unison harmonies totally reinvigorating these favourite pop songs. From the classic rock anthem of the 1980s in Toto's Africa , to the modern pop heartbreaker All Of Me by John Legend, these are great songs with even greater arrangements. The unabashed positivity of Nico & Vinz's Am I Wrong makes a fantastic counterpart to the optimism in the face of pain represented by the arrangement of the traditional gospel song Take My Hand, Precious Lord , a tune used to wonderfully affecting effect in the recent film 'Selma'. Finally, this fresh pop choral setlist is rounded off nicely with Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud , a beautiful love song in which the power and emotion of the words will enhance the performance.  Arranged for SAT (Soprano/Alto/Tenor) Choir, these songs are designed to be sung to backing tracks, but Piano accompaniments and Guitar chord boxes are included for rehearsal purposes, or if you wish to perform with a live band. Aside from De-Lisser's incredible arrangements, this pack includes an innovative and user-friendly download card with performance backing tracks, full demonstrations and individual rehearsal tracks of each Vocal part recorded by members of ACM Gospel Choir. Helpful hints for performing each piece are also included in this book, giving you everything you need to learn these well-loved songs. Mark De-Lisser is a celebrated Vocal Coach and Choral Director, who has been featured on BBC1's 'Last Choir Standing'. His extensive introduction and notes within this songbook bring a personal touch, as De-Lisser really is passionate about getting people singing, improvising and, most of all, enjoying themselves.  The new Choral arrangements of these fantastic pop tracks are ideal for spicing up a performance with these tunes, reinvigorated with lush harmonies and rich voices, all the while retaining the magic and meaning of the original songs. At your next performance, make sure you Sing Out! , leaving your audience truly astonished.

Zachary Wadsworth: Out Of The South Cometh The Whirlwind (Novello New Choral Series)

Zachary Wadsworth: Out Of The South Cometh The Whirlwind (Novello New Choral Series)

In Out of the south cometh the whirlwind, chant-like melodies and colourful organ writing combine to explore the relationship between God and the natural world. Awarded a 2011 King James Bible Composition Award, the work uses rich language from the Book of Job to chart a trajectory from doubt toward belief. At the opening, lyrical melodies build from a single pitch to proclaim the majesty of the ?wondrous works of God.? But doubt, painted with nervous lines in the altos and basses, soon invades, only to be diffused by a beautiful voice from beyond, a treble solo. Their faith restored, the choir joyfully celebrates God?s power and mystery, and the anthem ends in quiet contemplation. The Novello New Choral Series is an inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporary composers, offering pieces for all types of choirs, including sacred and secular works from simple, four-part settings to more expansive, yet accessible, repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. This collection is perfect for choirs looking to broaden their repertoire and explore some of the best new music around.Zachary Wadsworth (b.1983) is a prizewinning young composer whose works have been hailed as ?astonishingly confident? and ?mesmerizing? (News & Observer). His song cycle Pictures of the Floating World was premiered at the Lincoln Center, and his opera Venus and Adonis was recently staged by the Boston Metro Opera. His works have been published by E.C. Schirmer and Alliance Music, recorded on Gothic Records, and broadcast on NPR?s Performance Today and BBC Radio?s The Choir. A winner of the 2011 King James Bible Composition Awards, Zachary has also received prizes from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, ASCAP, and the Lotte Lehmann Foundation. A native of Richmond, Virginia, he currently lives in Calgary, Alberta."Zachary Wadsworth's Out of the South Cometh the Whirlwind is a highly imaginative and compelling addition to the Choir and Organ repertoire and it would serve as an unusually dramatic and arresting anthem at Evensong." - Jeremy Summerly, Choir & Organ Zachary Wadsworth - Out Of The South Cometh The Whirlwind by musicroom
