With music to both the “Olsenbanden” movies and “Pinchcliffe Grand Prix”, one would almost believe that Bent Fabricius-Bjerre was a Norwegian. But the Danish film and TV composer has a very large production and won a Grammy with “Alley Cat” in 1962. Other well-known series he has written music for are the “Matador”, “The Clown” and “The House at Christianshavn”. This arrangement is built on the recording of “Pinchcliffe Grand Prix”, but expanded with a short solo section. This may well be improvised. Please be free to choose and instrumentation that sounds the best for your ensemble. Saxophones can often strengthen the voices you need to bring forth.

Quando, Quando, Quando

The song was originally with Italian lyrics, recorded by Tony Renis and Emilio Pericoli in 1962. American entertainer Pat Boone recorded the song the same year, with English lyrics; “Tell Me When Will You Be Mine”. The song is one of the best-selling singles of all time. It has been used by many artists and in many different arrangements, including Engelbert Humperdinck in 1968, Connie Francis in 1963, Michael Bublé in 2005. "Quando, Quando, Quando" is arranged in a samba rhythm style, and gives an opportunity to add some Latin hand percussion to the group, such as Chocalho (shaker), Cabasa, Tamborim (Hand Drum), Agogo bells, etc.

Magnus-Hymnen : Hymn of St. Magnus

Hymn of St. Magnus is the oldest written example of Nordic polyphony. It is dated around year 1200. It’s origin is the Orkney Islands and it’s characterized by moving, parallel thirds. The hymn is dedicated to Magnus Erlendsson (Magnus the Martyr), who was an earl at Orkney Islands at the end of the Viking age. This was obviously tough and bloody times for people in power, and Magnus was eventually cut down during a battle with a rival, which led to him being declared a saint. This arrangement describes the battle Magnus was involved in. The melody is here somewhat simplified from the original version, but with a slightly modern twist. Parts of the song is ideal to be learnt bymemory and performed with some sort of stage show. The drums in the song is supposed to be fierce war drums - the deeper, the better! The indicated drum rhythm is just suggested and may well be decorated with stylish details. It is also important that the melody is played as it would be sung in a choir, with long, beautiful phrases. The bass riff should be played like it would have been played on a rock guitar!

This is really one of the great evergreens and of course on the "Rolling Stones" list of the 100 best songs of all time. But it would take over 50 years before it reached the top of Billboard's list with a "dance" version made by Freischwimmer (2016). In 1965, it was recorded by Barry McGuire and with "The Mamas and The Papas" members as a backing group, but it was only when they recorded it themselves that the first success came through. It has since lived in a number of recordings ranging from Jazz to Country and has also been song tracks in a lot of movies. Use your imagination and utilize the instruments you have, to make a varied performance.

He recorded his debut album "Jan Eggum" in 1975 and is since then recognized as a "cheerful melancholic". From Both Sides Now : Instrumental Solo with Band

“From Both Sides Now”, written in 1967, is one of the most famous songs by Canadian singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell. A novel by Saul Bellow, “Henderson the Rain King”, was her inspiration to write the song. She has recorded the song twice: first in 1969 on the album “Clouds” and again in 2000 on the album “Both Sides Now”. The latest recording feature a more orchestrated, jazz-inspired version of the song. This arrangement is written in “quasi-tango” style. There are three solo-options included: Bb-Inatruments, Eb-Instruments and C-Instruments (Bass Clef).

I Remember Clifford

I Remember Clifford

Clifford Brown was a very promising trumpeter who played with the best ones when he was killed in a car accident only 25 years old. Benny Golson (tenor saxophone) played with him in Lionel Hampton's band, and wrote this melody as a tribute to his colleague. The original was recorded by Donald Byrd in 1957. The melody was quickly picked up and recorded by a myriad of musicians and eventually lyrics was added. This varies a bit from recording to recording. This arrangement is based on the ability to use both vocal and instrumentalists as soloists. There are two different graded written solos for instrumentalists, or they can play the melody and improvise on therepetition. It is important that the conductor make the shure that the balance in the accompaniment is good. Stylistically, eighths are initially played even, while there is a slight swing feeling in drums. Vidda : Solo for Trumpet and Brass Band

I composed the song "Vidda" after I got my ultimate boy's dream fulfilled; To fly one of the Air Force's F-16 fighter jets! We flew out from Norwegian city Bodø on to the Finnmark plateau, where we flew so-called "low level" (at low altitude). It was such a great experience for me that I immediately wrote the song "Vidda" based on my experience of the trip. Here, I try to describe the meeting between the technical perfection of a machine that surpasses most of the various forces in it’s escape through the magnificent scenery passing at great speed, and the pilot who is alone with both the adventure and responsibility. The drums which start the song is meant to describes theenergy in the power of the plane, while the lonely and kind of melancholy melody from the trumpet in the beginning describes the feelings of the pilot. As the song develop, we pass both the mountains and big beautiful plateaus with g-forces quivering body. Hopefully you will share some of my experiences through this song. Have a nice flight! Me and Mrs. Jones

Me and Mrs. Jones was written by Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert in 1972, and was first recorded by Billy Paul on the album 360 Degrees of Billy Paul. The song is about a man who has an affair with Mrs. Jones, and how the two secretly meet every day in the same cafe, even though they may know it's not quite right: "We got a thing going on/we both know that it's wrong/but it's much too strong/to let it go now." Paul has stated that he was sure the song was going to be a hit even before it was released, as "it's a song everyone can relate to", but already from the start the lyrics were considered somewhat controversial and the song were banned from several radio stations. Nevertheless, it became one of the best-selling singles of 1972 and Paul received a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Well known is also Michael Bublé's version of the song, released on the album Call Me Irresponsible in 2007. It is his version that has been the inspiration for this arrangement, which brings out even more of the jazz elements Bublé has found in the song. The arrangement is quite demanding for the ensemble, and requires great rhythmic precision in particular.

He is a composer and copywriter of many of our most popular songs. "Ei hand å holde i" and "Har en drøm" with music by Svein Gundersen and especially his own "North Norwegian Christmas Psalm" are famous songs in Norway. "Lullaby in advent" may not be among his most famous songs, but it's a beautiful and thoughtful melody that will fit well with any Christmas concert. Hoff himself varied with musical styles on this song. This arrangement is written as a jazz-version with swing feel.
