Time Machine

Time Machine is a journey through time that begins in the Stone Age. Evolution and the coming of man take place. The journey takes us into the present, in which disorientation and chaos abound. We travel further into the future. An unfamiliar, quiet and surreal landscape lies before us and we wander through it, bewildered as we become aware of the destruction of the environment. Suddenly, and for no reason, memories from our childhood are awoken. Cultures have become completely mixed into one and the evolution of man has run its course. We realise that there is no “afterwards” as before us lies the Stone Age once again... The wheel of time spins blindly on and all isrepeated.

In this symphonic poem, George Gershwin portrays a day in the life of an American tourist in Paris. The music accompanies him along the Champs Elysées and through the Latin Quarter, where he becomes - in the form of a blues - overwhelmed by homesickness. A meeting with a fellow countryman brings back the upbeat mood, and our tourist enjoys the typical French atmosphere. A delightful trip to the French capital!

The fire brigade is tackling a blaze. The brave firemen battle the high flames and eventually the fire is put out. Proud and satisfied they make their way back to the station. Rustling paper represents the crackling of the fire—an effect made all the more special by the use of red and yellow sheets of paper. This exciting and adventurous work is ideal for brave, young bands!

EKSTASE is a piece about a mentally ill patient who is kept completely shut off from the outside world. His condition is worsening, and due to his medication the border between the real world and his hallucinations becomes increasingly vague. One day the patient discovers an old piano and begins to play Mozart which brings both himself and other patients back to life. A very innovative and virtuoso new work from Thomas Doss.

The Monk and the Mills

Evil people know no songs! Inspiration for this work was taken from the legend of the "Valley of the Mills", in which a traveller taught songs to the people of a village who had been put under a spell by a monk for their violation of moral standards. He brought song and prosperity back to the valley. It is this enchanting story, which shows the positive power of music, that Thomas Doss used as the basis for this splendid concert work which will be loved by all who perform it and listen to it.
