Greetings on St. Johns Day

Zoltán Kodály s complete choral works for mixed voices were published in a new, extended, edition in 2018 (Z. 6725 and Z. 6725A). This volume containing 51 compositions has been edited by the renowned conductor Péter Erdei, one of the most devoted interpreters of Kodály s choral works. The new edition takes into consideration the manuscript sources for the compositions housed in the Kodály Archives in Budapest. The publication features new, easily-legible music scores edited on uniform principles. For better readability, the new edition is printed in a slightly larger format than previous editions.The present publication is an offprint from the renewed edition of Kodály s completechoral works for mixed voices. It has the same format as the volume, and has been printed on excellent-quality pale-yellow paper.

There in the afternoons military, firemen's and student bands played music by Lehár, Fu ik and Sousa. Waltzes, marches and pleasant, bittersweet melodies reminiscent of what are seen as the happy, peaceful days before the First World War and the worldwide Great Depression.

Sideways Air on a Black Hole for Clarinet in Sib : Konzertstück. Solo

The composer writes the following about this work: 'As if we could only walk sideways in a tilted force field, Petruska-Harlequin in my piece evokes waltz fragments on a capsized 'Titanic', or Berlioz's Romeo und Juliet. Vertiginous chromatic martellato-staccato sequences keep tearing apart the clarinet's virtuosic aerial gymnastics interspersed among the fragments and half-heard wisps of sound. We suddenly find ourselves now in the depths, now in the highest regions, sidelong, as if all these fragments of musical memories were dancing on the edge of the event-horizon of a black hole...' This work, dedicated to the clarinettist Csaba Klenyán, was composed in 2002 inSaskatoon (Canada).

Emroidery Patterns on the Cracked Face of t: Earth

The composer writes about his work: My piece entitled “Embroidery patterns on the cracked surface of the Earth” can be imagined somehow as follows: two clarinets and a bassoon “write” beautifully ornamented magic formulas in the clay. As they proceed, the surface cracks into pieces. They almost finish the “writing”, but an invisible hand keeps “rearranging” the innumerable component elements. The “rearrangement” creates time hiatuses, or heaps together units of information in masses of unexpected density (in the second part, brief but condensed suddenly-emerging patterns of differing density scratch the surface of the long periods of silence): elsewhere it collides with the netof sound that carries the material and thus huge faults, ruptured tectonic plates, come into being…The complete work was first performed by the Trio Lignum (Csaba Klenyán, Lajos Rozmán, György Lakatos) in Budapest in 2005.

Character Variations On An Old Hungarian Folksong

István Bogár (1937-2006) was a world-renowned Hungarian composer best known for his works for winds. He composed concertos for trumpet, trombone, tuba, two horns, trumpet and horn, as well as several chamber works for winds and works for concert band. Furthermore, he wrote an oratorio, a cantata, various choral works, and folksong arrangements. The subject of the Character Variations is a well-known Hungarian folksong with a characteristic asymmetric metre. The theme is followed by nine imaginative variations, including a waltz, a jig, a march, a chorale, a toccata, and a playful echo piece. The four-minute long composition, which can effectively be performed even by music students, is rounded off by a virtuosic perpetuum mobile variation.

3 Études de concert : New edition based on the composer's manuscript

This edition of the three concert études is the first and only, for which the composer's autograph has been taken into consideration. This allows Liszt's popular piano cycle to be seen in the most authentic form available today.No closer information has emerged about the origins of the études, which appeared in 1849. The autograph, which contains all three studies in complete form, with elaborated notation and furnished with performance markings, appeared in a catalogue in the mid-1930s. But after it was bought by the French pianist François Lang (1908-1944), there were doubts about its whereabouts for several decades. So even Volume I/2 of the complete New Liszt Edition publishedby Editio Musica Budapest in 1971 could rest only on the notation of the first printed editions.

Old Bockhampton Tunes on poems by Thomas Hardy for

Ádám Kondor compiled this series from poems written by Thomas Hardy after the age of 70, when the poet was mourning the death of his wife. According to the composer, he was fascinated by the figure of the rather cynically morose old poet... In his decision to have a solo violin accompany the singer he was influenced by references, in biographies of Hardy, to the poet's father's passionate violin-playing. Bockhampton is Hardy's birthplace.
