Barotrauma is a simulation game with which we take control of the submarine's crew. The production was developed by the independent Finnish studios FakeFish and Undertow Games, and was released by Daedalic Entertainment. The game gives us a chance to experience the harsh and claustrophobic life of crewmen aboard the submarine vessel. The game offers multiplayer cooperation mode up to 16 players. In order to properly operate the vessel, players will have to work together. Story Background Barotrauma action takes the player into the near future. The Earth is no longer safe and because of that, a group of travelers was forced to leave the planet, searching for a new sanctuary. They managed to find it in Europe, one of Jupiter’s moons. However, the land is locked in ice and the only place which allows any existence is within the uncharted ocean’s depth. Now, the new inhabitants of Europe must fight for survival not only with their human weaknesses but also with something more unsafe and unknown, living in the dark depths.    Gameplay The action in the game is offered in a side view. During side-scrolling gameplay, players will control the actions of the submarine crew and explore randomly generated locations. While traveling, players may complete various quests and sometimes, encounter challenging enemies. In some cases, escape will be the best possible solution. Europe is a mysterious and new place. During adventures, we will often find ancient ruins, wrecks of ships and unknown monsters. As the leader of the crew, we must know how to operate our vessel. In order to control the submarine, the player will have to assign five posts which are: captain, engineer, mechanic, medic, and assistant.   Members of our crew can leave the submarine to explore and loot the remains of ancient civilizations and old shipwrecks. Thanks to the advanced crafting system, we can use gathered materials to create new valuable tools, weapons, and medicines. Barotrauma offers both, single-player and 16-players co-op mode. The game features a story campaign, single scenarios and sandbox mode. What’s important, the developers have prepared an advanced level editor fully integrated with Steam Workshop which allows players to create or download numerous modifications. In the game, we play the role of a four-person research team exploring a mysterious complex at the bottom of the ocean.StoryThe background to the game's plot is a failed research expedition deep under the ocean's surface. A group of scientists was sent to investigate the mysterious anomalies in the complex discovered there. Suddenly, without warning, scientists 'contact with the base ceased, and the researchers' fate remained unknown. The game starts 681 days later. A second, much better prepared expedition is sent to the bottom. Their mission is to investigate the fate of the previous team and the interior of the complex. The title draws inspiration from films such as Alien or Something , putting us in front of bloodthirsty, grotesque creatures who want our death.GameplayThe player's goal is to explore caves and chambers, combined with fighting the attackers. Our team consists of four heroes. We can lead them simultaneously, separately or in smaller groups. Each investigator has different types of tools at his disposal, such as scanners for detecting enemies or hidden rooms, climbing ropes, and explosives. The player also has the opportunity to direct heavy machinery such as drills or cranes. With the help of these mechanics, we have to solve puzzles and find hidden passages. The game puts a lot of emphasis on physics and destructible surroundings.
