We all know and love the pure white blooms and fragrance of Longiflorum Lilies (Trumpet Lilies), indeed it's almost a staple wedding flower. Now we can offer you the same breath-taking look and scent for your garden with incredible ease and reliability.Each bulb will produce stems to 1 meter tall in the first year, reaching 1.5 meter over 3 or so years, with more and more of those iconic flowers per stem. It is totally hardy and very easy to look after.Best planted where you can enjoy the fragrance in pots or borders. For pots, plant several in one big (30-40cm diameter) pot for knockout looks and fragrance, and space equally in the pot, planting with the top of the bulb about 15cm below the surface. Originating in France, this worthy winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit is virus-free and a reliable cropper with bulbs of around 10-12 succulent cloves.This 'softneck' garlic doesn't produce flower stems but will mature earlier than 'hardneck' alternatives, while also storing better too, even for up to three months after harvest! The garlic that is most commonly sold in supermarkets is softneck - but don't be tempted to propagate shop-bought garlic as it will be more prone to disease and crop far less efficiently than plants grown from these superior horticultural quality bulbs.Traditionally, garlic is planted on the shortest day of the year in December and harvested on the longest in June, although it can be planted in autumn or spring, with the former resulting in earlier crops.Although winter hardy, this may benefit from cold protection, or can be grown in a greenhouse or tunnel.
