Cotton satin - the best of both worldsHow about trying our soft cotton fabric in a range of beautiful colours for your next creative project. It's soft and comfortable to work with.Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven. This means that when we say cotton satin, it has the same beautiful weave as more 'classic' satin, while the cotton quality gives a more matt finish to the fabric.  And what can you use cotton satin for? Well, that’s entirely up to you. We prefer using it for bed linen. The natural material of the cotton in the delicate satin weave makes for some really lovely home made bed linen. As with so many other cottons, it is also suitable for clothing. Cotton is comfortable to wear and the fine weave gives it a nice finish - for a summer shirt or skirt, for example. Cotton satin is also perfect for a tablecloth for the table. Sew the tablecloth yourself or select "Sew as a tablecloth" and we will sew it for you (click on the text for details). Practical information about cotton satinMade from 100% cotton, it's soft and fluffy and, as always, you buy the fabric by the metre, so you get exactly the length you need. You can wash it at 60° and iron at medium heat - but avoid the tumble dryer; let it air dry instead. TIP: Finish your seams properly - satin tends to fray a lot. You could also consider using a wider seam allowance to secure your seams or use overlock stitching. As always - test your seams on a scrap piece beforehand to see which technique works best for your piece of fabric. Search "9 tips for sewing satin" for more tips. What is satin? Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven, where one side of the material is smooth and shiny. For this satin we recommend that you use a size 70 universal needle. What is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®?OEKO-TEX® is the world-leading label for textiles tested for harmful substances.Once the fabric has achieved a STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification, it is your guarantee it has been tested and approved not to contain any harmful chemicals.Meaning it is neither harmful to you nor your health and it’s less harmful to the environment.

The comfortable sausage cushionA sausage cushion? Yes, it sounds a bit uncharming, but in reality it's a really nice pillow that you'll really love. The sausage cushion is 40 cm long with a diameter of 20 cm. The foam is firm enough that the pillow won't collapse under you, but holds its shape and provides support. What can I use a sausage cushion for?Use it as a movable armrest, for leg and neck support or as a decorative cushion on your daybed or pallet sofa.If you want your sausage cushion to be shorter, you can easily cut the foam with a knife.Find a free sewing pattern by searching for "upholstery for foam club" or use, for example, the sewing pattern for a lounge chair (item no. 9035700).Foam of the right qualityThis foam is OEKO-TEX® certified polyether foam, which is naturally not treated with flame retardants. The foam has a high tear strength and is moisture resistant. At the same time, it holds its shape with a strong recovery capacity - in other words: a durable foam for your DIY project. The foam has a density of 25, which means it is soft and comfortable. The hardness is 130 N.Choose the right foam hardnessFoam is not just foam. Once you've spent hours sewing the best-looking cover for your project, you need to choose the right foam to put inside. The hardness of foam is called Newton (N). The higher the Newton, the harder the foam. You can assume that a foam with 100 N or less is soft, around 140 N is medium soft, and more than 160 N is hard.Naturally, your creative project and ideas will determine which hardness to choose, but as a starting point, we recommend:80-130 N for back cushions, bed frames, and similar110-160 N for sleeping mattresses130-200 N for seat cushions for chairs, sofas, and the likeWhat is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®?OEKO-TEX® is the world-leading label for textiles tested for harmful substances.Once the fabric has achieved a STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification, it is your guarantee it has been tested and approved not to contain any harmful chemicals.
