Advances in Aviation Psychology Volume 1

Advances in Aviation Psychology Volume 1

Aviation remains one of the most active and challenging domains for human factors and applied psychology. Since 1981 the biennial International Symposium on Aviation Psychology (ISAP) has been convened for the purposes of (a) presenting the latest research on human performance problems and opportunities within aviation systems (b) envisioning design solutions that best utilize human capabilities for creating safe and efficient aviation systems and (c) bringing together scientists research sponsors and operators in an effort to bridge the gap between research and application. Though rooted in the presentations of the 17th ISAP held in 2013 in Dayton Ohio Advances in Aviation Psychology is not simply a collection of selected proceeding papers. Based upon the potential impact on emerging trends current debates or enduring issues present in their work select authors were invited to expand on their work following the benefit of interactions at the symposium. The invited authors include the featured keynote and plenary speakers who are all leading scientists and prominent researchers that were selected to participate at the symposium. These contributions are supplemented by additional contributors whose work best reflects significant developments in aviation psychology. Consequently the volume includes visions for the next generation of air management and air traffic control the integration of unmanned (i. e. remotely piloted vehicles) into operational air spaces and the use of advanced information technologies (e. g. synthetic task environments) for research and training. This book is the first in a series of volumes to be published in conjunction with each subsequent ISAP. The aim of each volume is not only to report the latest findings in aviation psychology but also to suggest new directions for advancing the field. | Advances in Aviation Psychology Volume 1

Advances in Carbon Management Technologies Carbon Removal Renewable and Nuclear Energy Volume 1

Advances in Carbon Management Technologies comprises 43 chapters contributed by experts from all over the world. Volume 1 of the book containing 23 chapters discusses the status of technologies capable of yielding substantial reduction of carbon dioxide emissions from major combustion sources. Such technologies include renewable energy sources that can replace fossil fuels and technologies to capture CO2 after fossil fuel combustion or directly from the atmosphere with subsequent permanent long-term storage. The introductory chapter emphasizes the gravity of the issues related to greenhouse gas emissionglobal temperature correlation the state of the art of key technologies and the necessary emission reductions needed to meet international warming targets. Section 1 deals with global challenges associated with key fossil fuel mitigation technologies including removing CO2 from the atmosphere and emission measurements. Section 2 presents technological choices for coal petroleum and natural gas for the purpose of reducing carbon footprints associated with the utilization of such fuels. Section 3 deals with promising contributions of alternatives to fossil fuels such as hydropower nuclear solar photovoltaics and wind. Chapter 19 of this book is freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF at http://www. taylorfrancis. com under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND) 4. 0 license. | Advances in Carbon Management Technologies Carbon Removal Renewable and Nuclear Energy Volume 1

Diversification and Professionalization in Psychology The Formation of Modern Psychology Volume 2

Diversification and Professionalization in Psychology The Formation of Modern Psychology Volume 2

Diversification and Professionalization in Psychology offers readers a multicentric perspective on the history of social science and compares the developments in psychology in relation to the developments made in the other social and natural sciences. This is the second volume about the formation of modern psychology and provides a comprehensive look into the origins and developments of modern psychology. With a large geographical coverage European developments are put into their own context in their own time. In doing this the book explores different early schools from social reductionists like Durkheim Charles Blondel and Maurice Halbwachs to the social debates about relativism in Lévy-Bruhl early Piaget the beginnings of ethology and the semiotic approach of Karl Bühler. These thinkers are placed in relation to the recent upsurge of different social and biological theories of the mind. Throughout the author develops a detailed presentation of the thematic development of psychology and links the history of psychology to an outline of contemporary psychology. This is an invaluable introductory text for undergraduate students of the history of psychology and will also appeal to postgraduates academics and anyone interested in psychology or the history of science. It will also be of interest to graduate students of psychology biology sociology and anthropology with a theoretical interest in the history of the field. | Diversification and Professionalization in Psychology The Formation of Modern Psychology Volume 2

Advances in Computational Methods in Sciences and Engineering 2005 (2 vols) Selected Papers from the International Conference of Computation

This volume brings together selected contributed papers presented at the International Conference of Computational Methods in Science and Engineering (ICCMSE 2005) held in Greece 21 – 26 October 2005. The conference aims to bring together computational scientists from several disciplines in order to share methods and ideas. The ICCMSE is unique in its kind. It regroups original contributions from all fields of the traditional Sciences Mathematics Physics Chemistry Biology Medicine and all branches of Engineering. It would be perhaps more appropriate to define the ICCMSE as a conference on computational science and its applications to science and engineering. Topics of general interest are: Computational Mathematics Theoretical Physics and Theoretical Chemistry. Computational Engineering and Mechanics Computational Biology and Medicine Computational Geosciences and Meteorology Computational Economics and Finance Scientific Computation. High Performance Computing Parallel and Distributed Computing Visualization Problem Solving Environments Numerical Algorithms Modelling and Simulation of Complex System Web-based Simulation and Computing Grid-based Simulation and Computing Fuzzy Logic Hybrid Computational Methods Data Mining Information Retrieval and Virtual Reality Reliable Computing Image Processing Computational Science and Education etc. More than 800 extended abstracts have been submitted for consideration for presentation in ICCMSE 2005. From these 500 have been selected after international peer review by at least two independent reviewers. | Advances in Computational Methods in Sciences and Engineering 2005 (2 vols) Selected Papers from the International Conference of Computation
