Introduction to Quantum Control and Dynamics

Introduction to Quantum Control and Dynamics

The introduction of control theory in quantum mechanics has created a rich new interdisciplinary scientific field which is producing novel insight into important theoretical questions at the heart of quantum physics. Exploring this emerging subject Introduction to Quantum Control and Dynamics presents the mathematical concepts and fundamental physics behind the analysis and control of quantum dynamics emphasizing the application of Lie algebra and Lie group theory. To advantage students instructors and practitioners and since the field is highly interdisciplinary this book presents an introduction with all the basic notions in the same place. The field has seen a large development in parallel with the neighboring fields of quantum information computation and communication. The author has maintained an introductory level to encourage course use. After introducing the basics of quantum mechanics the book derives a class of models for quantum control systems from fundamental physics. It examines the controllability and observability of quantum systems and the related problem of quantum state determination and measurement. The author also uses Lie group decompositions as tools to analyze dynamics and to design control algorithms. In addition he describes various other control methods and discusses topics in quantum information theory that include entanglement and entanglement dynamics. Changes to the New Edition: New Chapter 4: Uncontrollable Systems and Dynamical Decomposition New section on quantum control landscapes A brief discussion of the experiments that earned the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics Corrections and revised concepts are made to improve accuracy Armed with the basics of quantum control and dynamics readers will invariably use this interdisciplinary knowledge in their mathematics physics and engineering work.

Control of Nonlinear Differential Algebraic Equation Systems with Applications to Chemical Processes

Control of Nonlinear Differential Algebraic Equation Systems with Applications to Chemical Processes

The feedback control of nonlinear differential and algebraic equation systems (DAEs) is a relatively new subject. Developing steadily over the last few years it has generated growing interest inspired by its engineering applications and by advances in the feedback control of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). This book-the first of its kind-introduces the reader to the inherent characteristics of nonlinear DAE systems and the methods used to address their control then discusses the significance of DAE systems to the modeling and control of chemical processes. Within a unified framework Control of Nonlinear Differential Algebraic Equation Systems presents recent results on the stabilization output tracking and disturbance elimination for a large class of nonlinear DAE systems. Written at a basic mathematical level-assuming some familiarity with analysis and control of nonlinear ODEs-the authors focus on continuous-time systems of differential and algebraic equations in semi-explicit form. Beginning with background material about DAE systems and their differences from ODE systems the book discusses generic classes of chemical processes feedback control of regular and non-regular DAE systems control of systems with disturbance inputs the connection of the DAE systems considered with singularly perturbed systems and finally offers examples that illustrate the application of control methods and the advantages of using high-index DAE models as the basis for controller design. Mathematicians and engineers will find that this book provides unique timely results that also clearly documents the relevance of DAE systems to chemical processes. | Control of Nonlinear Differential Algebraic Equation Systems with Applications to Chemical Processes

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines and Drives Flux Weakening Advanced Control Techniques

Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines and Drives Flux Weakening Advanced Control Techniques

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are popular in the electric vehicle industry due to their high-power density large torque-to-inertia ratio and high reliability. This book presents an improved field-oriented control (FOC) strategy for PMSMs that utilizes optimal proportional-integral (PI) parameters to achieve robust stability faster dynamic response and higher efficiency in the flux-weakening region. The book covers the combined design of a PI current regulator and varying switching frequency pulse-width modulation (PWM) along with an improved linear model predictive control (MPC) strategy. Researchers and graduate students in electrical engineering systems and control and electric vehicles will find this book useful. Features: • Implements evolutionary optimization algorithms to improve PMSM performance. • Provides coverage of PMSM control design in the flux-weakening region. • Proposes a modern method of model predictive control to improve the dynamic performance of interior PMSM. • Studies the dynamic performance of two kinds of PMSMs: surface-mounted and interior permanent magnet types. • Includes several case studies and illustrative examples with MATLAB®. This book is aimed at researchers graduate students and libraries in electrical engineering with specialization in systems and control and electric vehicles. | Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines and Drives Flux Weakening Advanced Control Techniques

Design and Control of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System

Design and Control of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System

The current model for electricity generation and distribution is dominated by centralized power plants which are typically associated with combustion (coal oil and natural gas) or nuclear generation units. These power models require distribution from the center to outlying consumers and have many disadvantages concerning the electric utilities transmission and distribution and greenhouse gas emissions. This resulted in the modelling and development of cleaner renewable power generation with alternative sources such as photovoltaic (PV) wind and other sources. Further due to matured PV technology constant drop-in installation cost greenhouse emissions reductions energy efficiency reduced transmission and distribution investments minimization of electric losses and network support the development of PV systems is proliferating. In view of this development this book provides an idea for setting up the PV plant from initial study of the site to plan sizing. Once the first planning is covered the book focuses on the modeling aspects of power electronics converter and control elements associated with it keeping the operating standards specified for the development of distributed generation systems in check. This book will be useful for industrial professionals and researchers who are working toward modeling of PV plants and their control in grid connected operation. All the necessary information related to these fields is available in the book. | Design and Control of Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System
