Nanoscience Education Workforce Training and K-12 Resources

The nanotech revolution waits for no man woman or child. To revitalize science technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) performance the U. S. educational system requires a practical strategy to better educate students about nanoscale science and engineering research. This is particularly important in grades K 12 the effective gestation point for future ideas and information. Optimize your use of free resources from the National Science Foundation The first book of its kind Nanoscience Education Workforce Training and K 12 Resources promotes nano-awareness in both the public and private sectors presenting an overview of the current obstacles that must be overcome within the complex U. S. educational system before any reform is possible. It‘s a race against time and other countries and the fear is that U. S. students could lag behind for decades with ineffective teaching and learning methods handicapping their ability to compete globally. Focusing on the application of new knowledge this concise and highly readable book explores the transdisciplinary nature of nanoscience and its societal impact also addressing workforce training and risk management. Illustrating the historical perspective of the complexity of K 12 education communities it defines nanotechnology and evaluates pertinent global and national landscapes presenting examples of successful change within them. This book is composed of four sections: Foundations addresses the national educational matrix exploring the scientific and social implications associated with the delay in adopting nanoscience education in public schools Teaching Nanotechnology discusses the critical process of teaching K 12 students the skills to understand and evaluate emerging technologies they will encounter | Nanoscience Education Workforce Training and K-12 Resources

Counternarratives from Asian American Art Educators Identities Pedagogies and Practice beyond the Western Paradigm

Counternarratives from Asian American Art Educators Identities Pedagogies and Practice beyond the Western Paradigm

Counternarratives from Asian American Art Educators: Identities Pedagogies and Practice beyond the Western Paradigm collects and explores the professional and pedagogical narratives of Asian art educators and researchers in North America. Few studies published since the substantial immigration of Asian art educators to the United States in the 1990s have addressed their professional identities in higher education K-12 and museum contexts. By foregrounding narratives from Asian American arts educators within these settings this edited volume enacts a critical shift from Western Eurocentric perspectives to the unique contributions of Asian American practitioners. Enhanced by the application of the AsianCrit framework and theories of intersectionality positionality decolonization and allyship these original contributor counternarratives focus on professional and pedagogical discourses and practices that support Asian American identity development and practice. A significant contribution to the field of art education this book highlights the voices and experiences of Asian art educators and serves as an ideal scholarly resource for exploring their identity formation construction and development of a historically underrepresented minoritized group in North America. | Counternarratives from Asian American Art Educators Identities Pedagogies and Practice beyond the Western Paradigm

EU Law and National Constitutions The Constitutional Dynamics of Multi-Level Governance

EU Law and National Constitutions The Constitutional Dynamics of Multi-Level Governance

This book provides an in-depth guide to researchers and practitioners who are interested in analysing the evolution of EU law from a national and comparative constitutional law perspective. The volume deals with questions of how EU member states’ constitutional systems including the subnational tier interact with the supranational level. It maps the evolution over time of constitutional strategies in the face of multi-level governance and individual contextual factors on an empirical basis. The volume comprises 12 national reports written by leading experts in constitutional and EU law and in political science. The countries discussed include the six founding member states together with a selection of member states in which a clear-cut evolution in the national constitutional approach towards the EU can be observed. These comprise the Czech Republic Denmark Hungary Poland Portugal and the United Kingdom. The latter is included as an “extreme” case in which the change in constitutional strategy over time has resulted in withdrawing from the Union altogether. Taken together the book assembles the building blocks of an explanatory theory of constitutional strategies in the face of multi-level governance. The volume will be of interest to students and researchers in comparative constitutional law political science and multidisciplinary EU studies. It will also be a valuable resource for policy-makers. | EU Law and National Constitutions The Constitutional Dynamics of Multi-Level Governance

Transcultural Poetics Chinese Literature in English Translation

Transcultural Poetics Chinese Literature in English Translation

This book examines many facets of transcultural poetics in the English translation of Chinese literature from 12 different expert contributors. Translating Chinese literature into English is a special challenge. There is a pressing need to overcome a slew of obstacles to the understanding and appreciation of Chinese literary works by readers in the English-speaking world. Hitherto only intermittent attempts have been made to theorize and explore the exact role of the translator as a cultural and aesthetic mediator informed by cross-cultural knowledge awareness and sensitivity. Given the complexity of literary translation sophisticated poetics of translation in terms of literary value and aesthetic taste needs to be developed and elaborated more fully from a cross-cultural perspective. It is therefore necessary to examine attempts to reconcile the desire for authentic transmission of Chinese culture with the need for cultural mediation and appropriation in terms of the production and reception of texts subject to the multiplicity of constraints in order to shed new light on the longstanding conundrum of Chinese-English literary translation by addressing Chinese literature in the multiple contexts of nationalism cross-cultural hybridity literary untranslatability the reception of translation and also world literature. The book will be of great interest to students and scholars of translation studies Chinese literature and East Asian studies. | Transcultural Poetics Chinese Literature in English Translation
