Story
The fifth installment of the Driver returns to the roots of the brand and takes place a few years after the events known from the third part of the series ( Driv3r), in the finale of which policeman John Tanner faced the evil Jericho. As a result of this confrontation, Tanner was hospitalized and fell into a coma. However, time heals all wounds, Tanner is recovering and on the day when Jericho is to be executed, he wants to be as close to the whole action as possible. With the help of friends and a lot of money, the criminal escapes, Tanner sets off in a chase, which ends in a serious accident and the policeman falls back into a coma. The player's task will be to help the hero and lead him through dreams about reality. The plot constructed in this way allowed the creators a bit more freedom and the possibility of using completely new, dynamic solutions.
Gameplay
In the game, we sit behind the wheel of a characteristic Tanner car and head to the largest virtual city in the history of the genre (San Francisco, 209 square miles) to complete a series of tasks and finally deal with Jericho. The innovation of the game is contained in the Shift system, which allows the main character to play different characters, and thus in practice to switch between cars / people. This allows you to use a lot of vehicles during a single mission and greatly increases the dynamics of the game. The only limit of using this skill appears while completing tasks, we cannot take over cars that are crucial for the race, pursuit, etc. Playing different characters and quickly changing cars opened the field for authors and players themselves. For example, by taking part in the chase, you can switch between different policemen, and even prepare an unexpected ambush for an escapee (using the truck going from the opposite direction). The system allows you to monitor the immediate vicinity from a bird's eye view, and even observe the entire city from a great height. In these modes, we review the parameters of the cars and look for new tasks marked with icons.
