Signals and Systems A MATLAB Integrated Approach

Signals and Systems A MATLAB Integrated Approach

Drawing on the author’s 25+ years of teaching experience Signals and Systems: A MATLAB® Integrated Approach presents a novel and comprehensive approach to understanding signals and systems theory. Many texts use MATLAB® as a computational tool but Alkin’s text employs MATLAB both computationally and pedagogically to provide interactive visual reinforcement of the fundamentals including the characteristics of signals operations used on signals time and frequency domain analyses of systems continuous-time and discrete-time signals and systems and more. In addition to 350 traditional end-of-chapter problems and 287 solved examples the book includes hands-on MATLAB modules consisting of: 101 solved MATLAB examples working in tandem with the contents of the text itself 98 MATLAB homework problems (coordinated with the 350 traditional end-of-chapter problems) 93 GUI-based MATLAB demo programs that animate key figures and bring core concepts to life 23 MATLAB projects more involved than the homework problems (used by instructors in building assignments) 11 sections of standalone MATLAB exercises that increase MATLAB proficiency and enforce good coding practices Each module or application is linked to a specific segment of the text to ensure seamless integration between learning and doing. A solutions manual all relevant MATLAB code figures presentation slides and other ancillary materials are available on an author-supported website or with qualifying course adoption. By involving students directly in the process of visualization Signals and Systems: A MATLAB® Integrated Approach affords a more interactive—thus more effective—solution for a one- or two-semester course on signals and systems at the junior or senior level. | Signals and Systems A MATLAB® Integrated Approach

A Course in Differential Equations with Boundary Value Problems

A Course in Differential Equations with Boundary Value Problems 2nd Edition adds additional content to the author’s successful A Course on Ordinary Differential Equations 2nd Edition. This text addresses the need when the course is expanded. The focus of the text is on applications and methods of solution both analytical and numerical with emphasis on methods used in the typical engineering physics or mathematics student’s field of study. The text provides sufficient problems so that even the pure math major will be sufficiently challenged. The authors offer a very flexible text to meet a variety of approaches including a traditional course on the topic. The text can be used in courses when partial differential equations replaces Laplace transforms. There is sufficient linear algebra in the text so that it can be used for a course that combines differential equations and linear algebra. Most significantly computer labs are given in MATLAB® Mathematica® and Maple™. The book may be used for a course to introduce and equip the student with a knowledge of the given software. Sample course outlines are included. FeaturesMATLAB® Mathematica® and Maple™ are incorporated at the end of each chapter. All three software packages have parallel code and exercises; There are numerous problems of varying difficulty for both the applied and pure math major as well as problems for engineering physical science and other students. An appendix that gives the reader a crash course in the three software packages. Chapter reviews at the end of each chapter to help the students reviewProjects at the end of each chapter that go into detail about certain topics and introduce new topics that the students are now ready to seeAnswers to most of the odd problems in the back of the book

Introduction to Microcontroller Programming for Power Electronics Control Applications Coding with MATLAB and Simulink

Introduction to Microcontroller Programming for Power Electronics Control Applications Coding with MATLAB and Simulink

Microcontroller programming is not a trivial task. Indeed it is necessary to set correctly the required peripherals by using programming languages like C/C++ or directly machine code. Nevertheless MathWorks® developed a model-based workflow linked with an automatic code generation tool able to translate Simulink® schemes into executable files. This represents a rapid prototyping procedure and it can be applied to many microcontroller boards available on the market. Among them this introductory book focuses on the C2000 LaunchPadTM family from Texas InstrumentsTM to provide the reader basic programming strategies implementation guidelines and hardware considerations for some power electronics-based control applications. Starting from simple examples such as turning on/off on-board LEDs Analog-to-Digital conversion waveform generation or how a Pulse-Width-Modulation peripheral should be managed the reader is guided through the settings of the specific MCU-related Simulink® blocks enabled for code translation. Then the book proposes several control problems in terms of power management of RL and RLC loads (e. g. involving DC-DC converters) and closed-loop control of DC motors. The control schemes are investigated as well as the working principles of power converter topologies needed to drive the systems under investigation. Finally a couple of exercises are proposed to check the reader’s understanding while presenting a processor-in-the loop (PIL) technique to either emulate the dynamics of complex systems or testing computational performance. Thus this book is oriented to graduate students of electrical and automation and control engineering pursuing a curriculum in power electronics and drives as well as to engineers and researchers who want to deepen their knowledge and acquire new competences in the design and implementations of control schemes aimed to the aforementioned application fields. Indeed it is assumed that the reader is well acquainted with fundamentals of electrical machines and power electronics as well as with continuous-time modeling strategies and linear control techniques. In addition familiarity with sampled-data discrete-time system analysis and embedded design topics is a plus. However even if these competences are helpful they are not essential since this book provides some basic knowledge even to whom is approaching these topics for the first time. Key concepts are developed from scratch including a brief review of control theory and modeling strategies for power electronic-based systems. | Introduction to Microcontroller Programming for Power Electronics Control Applications Coding with MATLAB® and Simulink®
