În același timp, el trebuie să fie convins de relativitatea scrierilor lui atâta vreme cât adevărul absolut nu‑i este îngăduit istoricului. De aceea, niciun slujitor al muzei Clio nu poate să‑și aroge pretenția că scrierile lui sunt perfecte, că reprezintă unica versiune de reconstituire a trecutului. Jon Fosse and the new theatre

The author's original, interdisciplinary perspective on Jon Fosse's drama is often audacious, but her research is conducted with skill and scientific circumspection. She draws certain metaphorical and intuitive connections between quantum physics and Jon Fosse's drama that later serve as investigative tools for the applied analysis of the selected plays by means of concepts such as entanglement, spacetime and so on. Right from the introduction and the first chapters, the working hypotheses are coherently and boldly correlated with the process of close reading as a chosen method of analysis. (Sanda Tomescu Baciu) This book looks at Fosse’s plays as books to read, and the analysis will, in spite of the fact one identifies old themes like love, death, communication, relationships, betrayal, regret, suffering, remembering or childhood in Fosse’s plays, focus on the way one experiences each of these, as the Fosse’an perspective shines a new light on them. It is this sensibility and privilege that the reader is offered and that becomes even more personal as reading progresses. Moreover, when reading, one is connected to one’s past, so a return to the self (past self) happens, which can be an emotional experience. This is the case with any good literature, however, this is even more the case with Jon Fosse, since his literature urges the reader to intervene, to contribute with his/her own rhythm, breath and time in the pauses that are also a reflection on the information acquired and the experience just undergone. The two years spent in Transylvania were among the most agreeable of sixteen years’ acquaintance with Austrian military life, and I shall always look back to this time as to something quaint and exceptional, totally different from all previous and subsequent experiences. Much interested in the wild beauty of the country, the strange admixture of races by which it is peopled, and their curious and varied folk-lore. (Emily Gerard) Worldwide is Emily Gerard mentioned for her article “Transylvanian Superstitions” which made the Irish Bram Stoker (another marginal of Victorian Britain) change the location of his Dracula from the Tyrol to the much more “exotic” Transylvania. This reference is common in the international scholarship on Bram Stoker. But the rest of Gerard’s literary work entered a thick cone of oblivion though her work is much richer. She wrote novels in collaboration with her sister Dorothea. They signed as E.D. Gerard. Emily also published novels and short stories that she wrote on her own. But from the Romanian perspective, her travelogue The Land beyond the Forest, inspired from her stay in Transylvania, is of utmost importance. But certainly, from the point of view of Romanian-British contacts, Emily Gerard is a writer who cannot be neglected. Alina Daniela Suciu's book continues the Romanian bibliography on this writer (the articles by Andraş, Mudure, and Teuceanu), but her study is more ample than these previous attempts to valorize Gerard. Suciu’s monograph is a solid research, clearly structured, an interesting contribution to Scottish Studies, literary studies, women’s studies and a valuable discussion of nomadic transnationalism. Any further attempt to discuss Emily Gerard will have to take Alina Daniela Suciu's study into consideration. (Mihaela Mudure

(Stéphane Mallarmé, Lettre à Odilon Redon) La maison Didot avait été aussi catégorique en ce qui concerne le Coup de dés. « C'est un fou qui a écrit ça. » Ce verdict ne devait pas me faire abandonner la publication de l'œuvre de Mallarmé ; mais … les années passent. Toutefois, j'ai conservé soigneusement les lithographies qu'exécuta Odilon Redon pour l'illustration de ce livre, et le moment viendra, j'espère, où le Coup de dés paraîtra. (Christopher Funkhouser, Prehistoric Digital Poetry) Eliza Deac est docteur ès lettres avec une thèse intitulée Le poétique et ses avatars : le modèle de Mallarmé et quelques expérimentes poétiques analogues aux XXe et XXIe siècles, soutenue à l’Université Babeş-Bolyai en 2016. Titulaire d’une maîtrise de lettres (2005) avec un mémoire sur l’œuvre du critique littéraire Ion Negoiţescu et d’un diplôme de master en « Études littéraires roumaines » (2006) avec une dissertation sur la subjectivité de la critique littéraire, elle a aussi obtenu un certificat de spécialisation en « Littérature et esthétique » à l’Université de Genève en 2011. Elle est membre du réseau EAM (European Network for Avant-Garde and Modernism Studies) depuis 2012. Ses recherches actuelles sont focalisées sur la poésie d’avant-garde de la première moitié du XXe siècle, mais ses intérêts touchent aussi aux sujets plus ou moins proches : l’histoire du livre, les théories du vers libre, images verbales face aux images visuelles, l’évolution de la théorie littéraire, les théories des nouveaux médias, ainsi que la littérature digitale.

Limita orientală a Europei Centrale se socoate cam linia dusă de la vărsarea fluviului Niemen în Marea Baltică la gurile Dunării. România se află în cuprinsul acestui ţinut, strâns legată de Carpaţi, şira de munţi care străbate Europa Centrală. Prin adânci linii de fractură, ca şi prin cel mai de seamă fluviu al Europei, România este despărţită de Peninsula Balcanică, în care adesea, dar pe nedrept, este reprezentată în atlasele străine. Ţara noastră nu e legată de Europa Centrală numai prin arhitectura pământului ori prin condiţiile climaterice, ci şi prin mare parte din evoluţia ei istorică. Se află însă la limita extremă a Europei Centrale, ca şi Polonia ori o parte din Germania. Nu poate fi deci lipsită de influenţa climei răsăritene, după cum nu a rămas neatinsă de valurile popoarelor mereu agitate, venite din inima Asiei. În toate privinţele, fizice, biologice şi istorice se află la o răscruce de drumuri. (ION SIMIONESCU, Ţara noastră, Bucureşti, 1937) Având mai multe studii și articole despre acest subiect – publicate sau în curs de publicare –, am considerat utilă o sinteză. Argumentul decisiv a fost traducerea în limba engleză, pentru a fi accesibile cercetătorilor și unui public interesat din alte țări. Structura urmărește coordonata cronologică, dar și pe cea tematică, încercând să surprindă procesul complex de integrare a țării în Europa prin modernizare. Limitele perioadei vorbesc de la sine. Ultimul text acoperă și istoria „imediată”, dintr-un motiv evident: în relațiile internaționale, unii „actori” s-au întors la logica confruntării de la începutul secolului al XX-lea. România trebuie să înțeleagă și să răspundă la această nouă provocare. (GHEORGHE IACOB) * With several studies and articles on this subject – either published or in the process of being published – we consider a synthesis is due at this point. The decisive argument was the translation of this research into English, which is meant to make it accessible to international researchers and general audience. The structure combines the chronology of the historical events and a thematic order in an attempt to outline the complex process of the country's integration in Europe through modernization. The timeline is self-explanatory. The last text tackles the recent history for an obvious reason: in international relations, some actors have chosen to revisit the tension discourse from the beginning of the 20th century. Textul acestui volum este o evocare a personalității Profesorului și Istoricului Keith Hitchins de către un fost student. Paginile pe care acum i le dedicăm sunt rezultatul unei intenții pe care am formulat‑o la începutul lunii aprilie 2020, atunci când i‑am urat Profesorului „La Mulți Ani!”, cu prilejul împlinirii vârstei de 89 de ani. Se pensionase de o jumătate de an, dar lucra asiduu la proiectele istoriografice pe care și le propusese pentru perioada următoare. Atunci am avut gândul de a dezvolta câteva articole ale mele, din ultimele două decenii, care tratau despre activitatea istoriografică a lui Keith Hitchins, într‑o prezentare în volum, cu prilejul împlinirii a nouă decenii de viață, în 2 aprilie 2021. Cu multă durere în suflet și mari regrete am aflat, în 2 noiembrie 2020, de la apropiații Profesorului din Urbana‑Champaign (SUA), că reputatul istoric, intelectual și mai presus de orice un MARE OM a trecut la cele veșnice. Dar gândul fostului lui student nu a dispărut și, la vremea când ar fi trebuit să împlinească 90 de ani, publicăm aceste pagini ca semn de nemărginită apreciere și profund respect pentru înaltul său umanism și tot ce a realizat în domeniul istoriografic, dar mai ales pentru efortul lui continuu în dezvoltarea dialogului cultural româno‑american/occidental, pentru încrederea că națiunea română este înscrisă pe calea integrării în europenitate. Alcătuit pentru a reda un portret bio‑bibliografic al distinsului istoric Keith Hitchins, volumul a reluat și completat câteva texte pe care le‑am publicat în Activitatea științifică la Institutul de Istorie „George Barițiu” din Cluj‑Napoca (2011) și Transylvanian Review (1997, 2011). Bibliografia, tehnoredactată de d‑na Codruța Cuc (Institutul de Istorie „George Barițiu” din Cluj‑Napoca), am primit‑o direct de la Profesorul Keith Hitchins, în 2011, iar datele de continuare, până în 2019, le datorez bunăvoinței d‑nei Pompilia Burcica, o colaboratoare a Profesorului în ultimii ani de viață, și publicației Society for Romanian Studies Newsletter (Decembrie 2020). Sugestii remarcabile în conturarea acestui volum au venit și din dialogul cu istoricul american Paul Michelson care a publicat recent (Archiva Moldaviae, 2020) o excelentă prezentare a vieții și activității istoriografice ale Profesorului Keith Hitchins. Dar, cum spunea adesea Keith Hitchins, „nimeni nu e perfect”. Iar medalionul pe care‑l înfățișăm acum cititorilor nu conține toate aspectele și nuanțele operei istoriografice a marelui istoric. De altfel, un scop pe care l‑am urmărit este de a dezvolta interesul pentru scrierile sale deosebite și, în același timp, de a spune breslei istoricilor că avem încă multe de învățat din ceea ce a creat Keith Hitchins în istoriografie și cultură. Căci istoricul Keith Hitchins ocupă un loc distinct, de mare cinste și valoare în istoriografia americană, dar deopotrivă în cea a României și în istoriografia universală. (Vasile Pușcaș

Asociatia "Vechiul Cluj" s-a constituit in vara anului 2013, cu scopul redescoperirii Clujului si a multiculturalitatii acestuia, printr-o incursiune in istoria municipiului si a judetului. Ceea ce a dus la infatisarea Clujului de azi este prea putin cunoscut de catre publicul larg, situatie care se poate schimba prin mediatizarea istoriei marcante a acestui oras. Incepand cu anul 2016, Asociatia a implementat proiectul „Re-descoperim Clujul”, in ale carui doua editii de pana acum s-au materializat cele doua ghiduri turistice ale colectiei. Incepand din anul 2014, Asociatia a mai desfasurat si proiectul „Povesti despre Cluj”, ajuns in prezent la a IV-a editie. - Sebastian-Iacob Moga "Vechiul Cluj" Association was founded in the summer of 2013, aiming at rediscovering Cluj and its multicultural character, by dwelving into the history of both city and county. What contributed to everything that represents Cluj of today is only partly known by the local public. The association wishes to change this fact, by diseminating elements of the remarkable history of the city. Beginning with 2016, the Association implemented the project “Re-discovering Cluj”, resulting in the first two published touristic guides of the series. Since 2014, the Association also became involved in organizing the “Stories of Cluj” project, which currently at its fourth edition. - Sebastian-Iacob Moga "Re-descoperim Clujul" a fost, in ordine cronologica, cel de al doilea proiect de anvergura al Asociatiei „Vechiul Cluj”. Asa cum sugereaza si titlul, publicul tinta al acestui proiect il constituie atat cei pentru care Clujul se lasa descoperit pentru prima data, cat si cei care i-au uitat comorile. Informatia despre diverse locuri, cladiri si personalitati ale Clujului se poate pierde datorita cresterii populatiei orasului prin imigratie, inceputa in timpul expansiunii industriale din perioada dictaturii comuniste si continuata in prezent. Ne-ar placea sa stim ca tururile ghidate si cele doua ghiduri publicate isi vor fi atins scopul, iar traditia istorica a Clujului va fi transmisa mai departe. - Victor Salca In chronological order, "Re-discovering Cluj” was the second large-scale project developed by "Vechiul Cluj" Association. As its title suggests, the targeted public of this project includes people that discover Cluj for the first time, as well as people that have forgotten its treasures. The information about various places, buildings, and personalities of Cluj might be forgotten due to the high growth rate of the city population, which began during its politically driven industrial development in the times of the communist dictatorship, and continues today. Nevertheless, we would be extremely pleased to know that the guided tours and the two printed guide books have achieved their goal, and that the historical tradition of Cluj will be known and further carried on. - Victor Salca In cel de al doilea ghid din seria dedicata redescoperirii Clujului, profesorul Vladimir-Alexandru Bogosavlievici ne indeamna pasii catre zone ale orasului care, in Evul Mediu, erau situate in afara burgului medieval. Nu sunt trecute cu vederea nici alte obiective mai apropiate sau mai indepartate de zidurile orasului de altadata, cum ar fi Piata Lucian Blaga, Gradina Botanica, Cetatuia cu fortificatia austriaca sau Parcul Etnografic creat de marele etnograf Romulus Vuia. Autorul ne conduce intr-o calatorie in care marile epoci ale trecutului se imbina adesea cu prezentul, sub bagheta sa, aproape magica, de posesor al unui neegalat tezaur de cunostinte. - Tudor Salagean In this second guide of the series dedicated to the rediscovery of Cluj, professor Vladimir-Alexandru Bogosavlievici directs our steps towards city neighbourhoods that, during Middle Ages, were outside of the medieval burg. The tours also included other objectives that are closer to or more distant from the old city walls, such as: Lucian Blaga Square, the Botanical Garden, the Citadel with the Austrian fortress, or the Ethnographical Park, founded by the great ethnographer Romulus Vuia. The author takes us on a journey in which, great periods of the past often merge with the present, as if under the magic wand of a master with an unmatched treasure of knowledge. - Tudor Salagea
