Age of Wonders: Planetfall is a spin-off of the popular series of turn-based strategies developed by Triumph Studios. It is also the first production under this banner that was released not only on personal computers but also on consoles. Contrary to previous works of the studio, Age of Wonders: Planetfall does not take us on a journey to fantasy land but to a science fiction universe. Players take control of a galactic empire, and their task is to end its stagnation and lead it to a better future. In the course of the game, we get to know not only other factions that develop in their own way but also the history of the world, including the fate of the fallen civilization of Star Union. Despite a different "setting", in terms of gameplay mechanics, Age of Wonders: Planetfall draws heavily on solutions developed by previous games in the series. During the game, we spend most of our time on the world map, dealing with the expansion of the main city and the establishment of specialized colonies, discovering new technologies that increase our combat potential, establishing more or less friendly diplomatic relations with (often conflicting) groups and introducing new doctrines. An important role is also played by turn-based clashes with enemy forces, during which the units we control are moved to a separate board; It is worth noting that thanks to the destructible environment and the extensive possibilities of modifying the arsenal used by our soldiers, the creators managed to expand the range of tactical options. All this means that victory can be achieved here both by conquest and diplomacy, as well as by extermination (after developing appropriate technologies). Due to the vastness of the area we control, Victoria II offers the possibility of automating certain activities, taking into account the criteria specified by the player. In Victoria II, great emphasis was placed on research. The game offers several thousand different historical inventions that can be developed in our country. An important part of the game is also carrying out the reforms necessary for the proper functioning of the areas conquered by the player and the introduction of a more extensive than the previous part, the electoral system - the possibility of concluding election coalitions has been added and the lower and higher houses of parliaments of all countries available in Victoria II have been introduced. The whole thing is very much related to the historical realities of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Among other things, thousands of historical events that affect the course of the game and special historical missions specific to a given country await players.
