Thomas Dakin Small Batch Gin In 1761, just before the Industrial revolution, Thomas Dakin (at the age of 25), began making high quality gin in the north of England. Prior to this, the quality was generally rather dubious. His inventive outlook ensured a quality gin which made Thomas the forefather of quality gin, and makes this gin one of few with such a rich heritage. This is a classic London Dry gin, which is made in small batches in a baby copper still. Rather uniquely, Thomas Dakin gin includes an infusion of distinctive "red cole" (a type of horseradish), this was a root botanical which was frequently used in refreshing cordials in 18th century northern England. It gives the gin a long, lingering finish. This gin has a delicious aroma, with notes of sweet orange and citrus joining with the classic juniper. On the palate this is classic, with well rounded citrus and savoury botanical notes. It has a deliciously long and lingering finish, coating the mouth well. Two Stacks Irish Whiskey - Dram in a Can In creating Two Stacks, there was a desire to blend not just whiskey, but also the very best of contemporary Irish flavour and the real heritage of distilling. Historically in Ireland, merchants and grocers would blend and age their own whiskey blends. They would select from distilleries and then chose their own casks in which to age. Over the last 150 years this heritage has slowly been on the decline. Two Stacks wanted to change this. Relying on traditional techniques, they chose whiskies, blend and cask. Then through taste and nose they decide when the Whiskey has reached its maturity and then empty and hand label each bottle. For their Dram in a Can Two Stacks wanted to create a truly distinctive Irish Whiskey, but one for the contemporary palate. To do this they created a blend of grain whiskey's aged in virgin oak and bourbon oak casks. A Pot still whiskey which has been aged in Oloroso Sherry Casks. And finishes with a bourbon cask matured double-distilled malt, and a peated malt aged in bourbon casks. On the nose there is a sweetness, joined by warm butter and a hint of peach tea. It is delicately sweet and spicy whiskey on the palate, with blackberry notes, butterscotch and toasted oak. The finish is long, with a playful warm honey note. Misty Isle Tommy's Gin Perhaps better known for its rugged landscapes, medieval castles, picturesque fishing villages (and perhaps whisky), it is the beautiful Isle of Skye that Misty Isle gin calls home. It is here, on Scotland's Misty Isle (a local name for the Island) that two brothers, Thomas and Alistair Wilson started the Isle of Skye Distillery. Having both been born and grown up on the island, they are unashamedly proud of their Island, its people and the produce made there. It is due to this that they wanted to create a range of spirits for which they, and the Island could also be proud of. All their Spirits are made in Portree (the largest town on Skye), and use the crystal clear spring wayers from the Storr Lochs nearby. The stills they have are. also the first to have produced gin on Skye. Launched in 2017, Tommy's Gin was created in memory of the distillers late father (Tommy Wilson). The name of the gin is a recognition of both his name, and the fact that he served as a soldier in the Suez invasion (as 'Tommy' is also a generic name and term of endearment for a soldier. Good to know: For every bottle of Tommys gin sold, a donation is made by the Isle of Skye Distillery to local Military Charities, Military charities were close to Thomas’ heart so this is a fitting memory for him The gin itself uses a number of ingredients found locally, as well as poppy seeds (which is a symbol of rememberance in the UK). The juniper is hand-foraged on the Isle of Skye, blaeberries (scottish blueberries), coriander, liquorice root, and sweet orange as well as other select botanicals come together. A delicate sweetness comes through from the poppy, as well as a hint of liquorice. This continues on to a tartness from the blaeberries and a hint of sweet orange. Blue Bomb Dry Gin The Dutch Microdistillery have just launched a new receipe for their Blue Bomb Dry Gin. The distiller behind this vibrant coloured spirit has bold taste and Blue Bomb absolutely  refelects this.  Inside a centuries-old bell foundry in the region of Brabant (in the south of The Netherlands) is the Dutch MIcrodistillery.  Using a semi high-tech microdistillery, they have created a range of delicious, small batch spirits. From start to finish, everything is artisanally crafted - from the handpicking of the ingredients, through the distillation process, right to the bottling and labelling.  For their Blue Bomb Dry GIn, a total of 13 botanicals have been used to create the recipe. Alongside the more common gin botanicals, including juniper (of course), there are some homegrown delights and the black goji berry which contributes to the bols colouro the gin. J&B Rare Whisky The history behind J&B (Justerini & Brooks) goes back to 1749, when it was founded as a Fine Wine & Spirits merchant to supply the aristocratic houses of London. It even went on to supply every British Monarch since King George III in 1761. This, their J&B Rare Whisky first went on sale in 1933 following the end of prohibition in the US. The blend contains a total of 42 different single malt and grain whiskies from Scotland. These include distilleries like Knockando, Auchroisk and Glen Spey. Whilst the whisky was created with mixing in mind - it is most definitely versatile enough to be enjoyed neat, or on the rocks - with its smooth, fruity taste being enjoyed however you like. On the nose there are notes or orange zest and malt, with warming caramel, apples and walnuts. The palate is balanced, smooth and full of ripe fruit - with the malt and a delicate toffee sweetness. As the drink finishes, it remains exeptionally balanced - lingering, but not overly so to a medium finish with woody oak and a touch of cinnamon spice.  More from J&B Perfect Serve Whilst this is a whisky which is easily enjoyed on its own - we really liked this in a Whisky Ginger. Tito's Handmade Vodka "I was raised that if you are going to do something, do it right, do it better than anyone else, and charge a reasonable price." - Tito This is the ethos that is behind Tito's Vodka. Indeed, prior to Bert 'Tito' Beveridge creating his vodka, he went out and purchased every vodka he could. He found the two best, and then when he managed to distill a vodka which consistently beat these - he felt he had his final recipe. So, in 1995 Tito got the first (legal) permit to distill in Texas (USA), and started creating his Vodka. The label is simple, and created by Tito himself. He didn't want to add any unnecessary costs, or distract from what was inside the bottle. They batch distill their vodka (which is corn-based, not the more common potato or wheat) using old-fashioned pot stills and due to the corn base, the vodka is naturally Gluten-Free. The distillation is done a total of six times to ensure it's smoothness. This is a vodka which is perfectly neutral, and extremely smooth. For something a little different and deliciously floral, try with Thomas Henry's Cherry Blossom Tonic. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the vodka. Pour over 200ml of the tonic and stir gently.

Misty Isle Spookily Spiced Gin Perhaps better known for its rugged landscapes, medieval castles, picturesque fishing villages (and perhaps whisky), it is the beautiful Isle of Skye that Misty Isle gin calls home. It is here, on Scotland's Misty Isle (a local name for the Island) that two brothers, Thomas and Alistair Wilson started the Isle of Skye Distillery. Having both been born and grown up on the island, they are unashamedly proud of their Island, its people and the produce made there. It is due to this that they wanted to create a range of spirits for which they, and the Island could also be proud of. All their Spirits are made in Portree (the largest town on Skye), and use the crystal clear spring wayers from the Storr Lochs nearby. The stills they have are. also the first to have produced gin on Skye. Tënu Gin - Le Bon Tikka Barrel Aged Gin Founded in 2014, Tenu Spirits was created by Chef Antto Melasniemi and Artist Klaus Haapaniemi. They had a shared desire to explore, be excited and ensure quality drinks - and so they decided to create their own drinks brand. The original Tënu Gin was created for a pop-up restaurant in London. After proving hugely succesful, they decided to launch it into the wider market. Like a lot of great things, the birth of Le Bon Tikka gin started by accident. During the creation of a test batches of Tënu Gin, Bilberries were substituted for the usual lingonberries. Initially this was too heavy and not found to be acceptable on the palate. However, it did bear some promise - so it was decided to allow it to age in new oak barrels for a period of 6 months. They tried a number of different barrels, and the results varied. Some too vanilla, some far too woody. However, upon blended they found a perfect mix - and Le Bon Tikka was born! Only 1800 bottles of this have been created - so a definite limited edition! Fun fact: Tikka means woodpecker in Finnish - hence the name! It can also be found on the label along with the bilberries. Whilst they keep the full list of botanicals a secret, it is know to include juniper berries, bilberries (only wild, handpicked Finnish ones), wild rose petals (sourced from the Finnish archipelago), orris root, coriander seeds and lemon peel. With a stronger abv this is a gin which is truly packed full of flavour. There is a lot of woody juniper in this, which is joined by oaky spice and hints of sweet stem ginger. A sweet caramel also comes through which evolves in the mouth to floral lavender, warm vanilla and interestingly a clean citrus finish.
