Thomas Dakin Small Batch Gin 70cl

Thomas Dakin Small Batch Gin In 1761, just before the Industrial revolution, Thomas Dakin (at the age of 25), began making high quality gin in the north of England. Prior to this, the quality was generally rather dubious. His inventive outlook ensured a quality gin which made Thomas the forefather of quality gin, and makes this gin one of few with such a rich heritage. This is a classic London Dry gin, which is made in small batches in a baby copper still. Rather uniquely, Thomas Dakin gin includes an infusion of distinctive "red cole" (a type of horseradish), this was a root botanical which was frequently used in refreshing cordials in 18th century northern England. It gives the gin a long, lingering finish. This gin has a delicious aroma, with notes of sweet orange and citrus joining with the classic juniper. On the palate this is classic, with well rounded citrus and savoury botanical notes. It has a deliciously long and lingering finish, coating the mouth well. Perfect Serve Best enjoyed with a classic tonic water, such as Fentimans Premium Indian Tonic. Take a large glass filled with ice, and add 50ml of the gin. Pour in 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic, and garnish with a slice of orange.

Thomas Henry Ginger Ale This is the premium mixer for all lovers of classic long drinks as well as experimental connoisseurs. The powerful ginger note meets gentle caramel aromas. In 2016, the premium, Berlin-made mixer took home first place at the Mixology Taste Forum. Similar to ginger beer, Ginger Ale has a history as an alcoholic drink. Ales are among the top-fermented beers in England. With the invention of carbonation by the pharmacist Thomas Henry in 1773 however, the non-alcoholic variant of ginger ale became more and more established. Thomas Henry Bitter Lemon This is an excellent refreshing premium mixer, containing extra quinine and boasts just the right balance of bitterness, acidity, and sweetness. The aroma is of powerful lemon, and a hint of lime. Thomas Henry Bitter Lemon is one of the classic mixers par excellence and the ideal basis for numerous drinks with spirits of various kinds. Similar to Tonic Water, Bitter Lemon was also created as a malaria protection in the 19th century: in colonial Africa, water, lemon juice and quinine were mixed into a drink that not only protected against the disease but also happened to be refreshingly pleasant.  This is why in the English speaking world, Bitter Lemon it is often referred to as Lemon Tonic. Misty Isle Tommy's Gin 70cl

Misty Isle Tommy's Gin Perhaps better known for its rugged landscapes, medieval castles, picturesque fishing villages (and perhaps whisky), it is the beautiful Isle of Skye that Misty Isle gin calls home. It is here, on Scotland's Misty Isle (a local name for the Island) that two brothers, Thomas and Alistair Wilson started the Isle of Skye Distillery. Having both been born and grown up on the island, they are unashamedly proud of their Island, its people and the produce made there. It is due to this that they wanted to create a range of spirits for which they, and the Island could also be proud of. All their Spirits are made in Portree (the largest town on Skye), and use the crystal clear spring wayers from the Storr Lochs nearby. The stills they have are. also the first to have produced gin on Skye. Launched in 2017, Tommy's Gin was created in memory of the distillers late father (Tommy Wilson). The name of the gin is a recognition of both his name, and the fact that he served as a soldier in the Suez invasion (as 'Tommy' is also a generic name and term of endearment for a soldier. Good to know: For every bottle of Tommys gin sold, a donation is made by the Isle of Skye Distillery to local Military Charities, Military charities were close to Thomas’ heart so this is a fitting memory for him The gin itself uses a number of ingredients found locally, as well as poppy seeds (which is a symbol of rememberance in the UK). The juniper is hand-foraged on the Isle of Skye, blaeberries (scottish blueberries), coriander, liquorice root, and sweet orange as well as other select botanicals come together. A delicate sweetness comes through from the poppy, as well as a hint of liquorice. This continues on to a tartness from the blaeberries and a hint of sweet orange. J&B Rare Whisky The history behind J&B (Justerini & Brooks) goes back to 1749, when it was founded as a Fine Wine & Spirits merchant to supply the aristocratic houses of London. It even went on to supply every British Monarch since King George III in 1761. This, their J&B Rare Whisky first went on sale in 1933 following the end of prohibition in the US. The blend contains a total of 42 different single malt and grain whiskies from Scotland. These include distilleries like Knockando, Auchroisk and Glen Spey. Whilst the whisky was created with mixing in mind - it is most definitely versatile enough to be enjoyed neat, or on the rocks - with its smooth, fruity taste being enjoyed however you like. On the nose there are notes or orange zest and malt, with warming caramel, apples and walnuts. The palate is balanced, smooth and full of ripe fruit - with the malt and a delicate toffee sweetness. As the drink finishes, it remains exeptionally balanced - lingering, but not overly so to a medium finish with woody oak and a touch of cinnamon spice.  More from J&B Perfect Serve Whilst this is a whisky which is easily enjoyed on its own - we really liked this in a Whisky Ginger. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the whisky. Gently pour over 150ml of your favourite ginger ale (we liked it with Thomas Henry Ginger Ale). For their latest edition, their Apple & Elderberry Gin, they have created (arguably) the ultimate autumn gin (but delicious enjoyed any time of the year!). It's a deliciously fresh combination of ripe, crisp apples and fruity berries. Deliciously fruit forward, this is one for those who like a gin full of delicious fruity flavours. The botanicals they use are Angelica, Orange, Organic autumn bliss Raspberries and Shropshire prune damsons from the Augernik Fruit Farm (near the distillery), Coriander and of course Juniper. On the nose this has a hint of juniper, which melds perfectly with rich berry aromas. On the palate there are juicy damsons, sweet raspberries, apples and juniper. All blending perfectly. The finish has floral notes, lightening it - but it remains full of fruit, almost jam like. This is a gin which has a juniper-forward flavour profile, amply supported by other botanicals which are angelica, cardamom, coriander, ginger, laurel, liquorice, lemon and orange. After distillation, this is rested on American oak casks for at least six months. This ensures the gin develops some interesting oaky-vanilla notes, and an earthiness. Heidell Navy Strength Gin Whilst Heidell Gin is a relative newcomer to the gin world, their signature gin has already won a Silver award from the London Spirits Competition. As with its little brother, their Navy Strength is also produced in Naantali, a town located in the Finnish Archipelago - the South West of Finland (west of Helsinki). They utilise as many local ingredients as they can, crystal clear Finnish water, a Dutch still and take inspiration from the Sea - doubly important in a Navy Strength edition. With their Master Distiller being a retired Naval Officer, it should come as no surprise that they would launch a Navy Strength gin. This is the big brother of Heidell Gin, a true handcrafted gin which combines a traditional gin taste - but powered up.... with the aroma and taste of a stormy sea. The aroma is of a classic gin, right from the start with a stronger punch. The notes of juniper and a defined aroma of the sea. On the palate the juniper is pervalent through the drink, giving a delicious dryness. Whilst citrus is present, due to the higher alcohol content its more in the background - and the spice notes come through stronger here. A definite refined and contemporary Finnish Navy Strength gin. Himbrimi Old Tom Gin 50cl

Himbrimi Old Tom Gin Both inspired by, and utilising herbs which are found along the banks of lakes and rivers in Iceland, this is a gin quite unlike anything you will have tried before. Using wild arctic thyme, angelica flowers (not the root!), lemon peel and juniper they blend with a neutral grain alcohol which is sweetened with honey. The aroma of this gin is woody, with a wild nature feel. Think pine bark, sweet dark honey and mosses. The flavour stands out - its proud of itself almost, with a bold flavour with defined spicy notes. The earthy notes detected in the nose come through too. Mid palatte the juniper comes forward with a freshness which is joined with thyme, lavender and a little tarragon. The finish is somewhat bitter from the herbs, with a sweetness which lightens it. It remains on the palate, reminding of the drink. This is definitely a gin which can be drunk slowly and savoured.  Read more about Himbrimi Perfect Serve Whilst this is a sweetened Gin (and therefore defined as an Old Tom), this is distilled with herbs, which blends a degree of bitterness into the end of the drink, similar to an Amaro (Italian sweetened herbal liqueur). Because of this, we really enjoyed drinking this on its own as a digestif. This would also make an interesting addition to a Negroni, bringing a different nuance of herbal flavours. For a longer drink, try with a Ginger Ale (Fentimans works well). 50ml of the gin with 150ml of the tonic is a good ratio, a couple of ice cubes and a garnish of a slice of orange.

Black Tears is a rum pack full of emotion, which aims to celebrate the contemporary Cuba. This is a blend of Cuban rum and spices. Its based on a silver dry rum from one of the best Cuban distilleries and is the first dry spiced cuban rum on the market. Setting itself apart from other spiced rums, this has a bittersweet taste and a low sugar content (typical for Cuban rums). The spices used are coffee and cacao, and aji dulce (a sweet pepper, used heavily in local cuisine).  This is a rum which has a cool, golden intensity - which is both bright and clear. Scapegrace Vodka Following the success of their award-winning gin, Scapegrace have now created their own Vodka. They use a similar approach in making their vodka as they do to their gin. It's made in Canterbury, New Zealand, and uses a wheat-based neutral grain spirit, and 100% artisanal water. Whereas other vodka producers go to great lengths to extol how many times they have distilled their vodka, Scapegrace create theirs using a single distillation. Using a 19th century copper pot still they believe this, and the natural components found in the water and grain add a uniqueness to the vodka. The resul is a vodka which coats the mouth perfectly with a thick consistency and a delicious creaminess. There is a slight sweetness to it, leaving a creamy pavlova finish.
