Lebensstern Alpine Gin The story behind the Lebensstern range of gins starts in Berlin. The Lebensstern Bar is located in a former 1920s illegal casino situated above Cafe Einstein. They are well-known for their excellent cocktails, and an impressive collection of bottles (more than 1,800 spirit, including 600 rums and 200 gins). Their range of gins are produced by the Destillerie Freihof in Lustenau, Austria. Here they have been distilling since 1885 - and remains a family owned company to this day. For this Gin, they took inspiration from the Alpine region, and used a number of herbs and botanicals found there. Even the light blue hue to the gin is reminiscent of the alpine sky. The aroma has delicate hints of piney juniper, as well as well as fresh, floral herbal notes. On the palate again, the herbal flavours merge perfectly with the juniper. A light floral quality, with elderflower and citrus as backing notes ensures this is a really refreshing gin. More from Lebensstern Perfect Serve This can be enjoyed slowly over plenty of ice, however we liked this best mixed with an elderflower tonic. This adds a little more sweetness and enhances that found in the gin. Fentimans Elderflower Tonic worked exceptionally well. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and stir gently. Garnish with a slice of lemon.
