Vanquish is an effective, futuristic TPP shooter, developed by the Japanese development studio PlatinumGames, known e.g. thanks to the well-received slasher Bayonett. One of the producers of the game is Shinji Mikami, the father of such brands as Resident Evil and Dino Crisis. The title debuted in autumn 2010 on seventh generation consoles.
Story
The story of Vanquish is set in the distant future, where the Earth's natural resources are already depleted, and the two largest world powers are fiercely competing for access to what's left of them. In this peculiar race for energy, the United States is building a modern space station - a sky city that can harvest the energy of the Sun. However, Russian forces manage to take control of the station and turn the accumulated solar energy into a powerful weapon that completely destroys San Francisco. This is how the Russians want to force their enemies into total and unconditional surrender.
In response to the attack, the United States sends its troops on a mission to recapture the station before the enemy succeeds in destroying another target - the city of New York. One of the members of the United States Marine Corps special unit is an agent named Sam working for the US government, played by the player. Equipped with an ultra-modern Augmented Reaction Suit that provides superhuman strength and speed, it is designed to fend off enemy forces using a whole arsenal of weapons - including your own hand-to-hand combat skills.
Gameplay
In terms of mechanics, Vanquish is an extremely dynamic and effective third-person shooter, in which the gameplay is based on numerous clashes with Russian military units. While playing, we can also interact with various objects, opening doors or activating elevators and other mechanisms. In addition to the above-mentioned suit, our protagonist is able to carry three weapons at the same time, and additionally keep grenades and explosives in his pocket. During the skirmishes, the cover system also turns out to be useful, thanks to which the walls of buildings, vehicles or other larger objects can serve as a natural cover (although some of them, due to prolonged fire, can also be completely destroyed). In addition, the game uses the well-known, among others from the Call of Duty series, a self-healing health system. When Sam takes heavier damage, a time slow mode triggers, giving him a chance to kill enemies or hide behind cover and regain energy.
