Drive the Queen aboard the Royal Train to her Jubilee Celebrations, pulled by the Class 67 Diesel Electric locomotive.The Class 67, originally built in Spain in 1999 by Alstom, with a General Motors engine and transmission, is an upgraded version of the Class 66, with a higher gearing to allow higher operating speed of up to 125mph on UK lines. Originally assigned to Mail Train services until the end of the contract with the Royal Mail in 2003, the Class 67 then found itself operating in a number of roles. Since 2004, The class 67 has been the locomotive of choice for the Royal Train, with a pair being repainted into Royal Claret livery specially for the job. The London and North Eastern Railway’s mixed traffic Thompson B1 Class locomotive is now available for Train Simulator, and includes scenarios specially created for the popular Woodhead Line.Designed by Edward Thompson, chief mechanical engineer for the LNER, the prototype for the new 4-6-0 ‘B Class’ (later classified as ‘B1 Class’) was the first two-cylinder main line locomotive built by the LNER. The B1 was designed for medium mixed traffic use but also had the requirement of being cheap to produce due to wartime and post-war economies. The B1s operated across the LNER network and more than 400 were built between 1942 and 1952. However, with the change in British Railways policies the Class was withdrawn in the 1960s, long before the end of its expected economic working life.The Thompson B1 for Train Simulator is available in British Railway black livery with lion-and-wheel emblem. Originally, the diesel freight locomotive was an upgrade to the SD70M and SD70MAC, designed to meet new emission regulations and with minor external differences in body shape. As with recent US diesels, the SD70ACe was also fitted with a full width ‘comfort’ cab and is a popular sight across the US.More than 1,200 examples have been built so far for a number of US railroads, including BNSF, CSX, Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern.Through the years, a series of mergers have expanded Union Pacific’s track network, opening up new routes and services across the US. In celebration of these fallen flag railroads, Union Pacific repainted six SD70ACe locomotives in attractive heritage liveries during the mid-2000s, including those of the Denver & Rio Grande Western, Missouri Pacific, Western Pacific, Missouri-Kansas-Texas, Chicago & North Western, and Southern Pacific.
