Rogue Legacy is an old-school, two-dimensional arcade game with RPG elements, referring to the 8-bit roguelike games popular in the times of computers. At the root of the genre lies the game Rogue , created in 1980 for Unix systems , which defined the rules that define this, after all, niche genre today. The most important of them are randomly generated levels, economical graphics - often generated using ASCII characters, and only one life, after losing which we were forced to start the game all over again.
Gameplay
Gameplay in Rogue Legacy, reminiscent of classic platform games, comes down to the exploration of randomly generated levels of the castle and the elimination of enemies and traps lurking there. Each defeated opponent or destroyed element of the environment allows you to get gold, which we then invest in the development of the family estate. In addition to improving the characteristics of our character, we can also buy a new weapon from a blacksmith, and runes that unlock new abilities from fairies. An interesting option is the ability to pay the architect to block the scheme of a given castle, thanks to which the layout of the rooms will remain unchanged after our death. Gold is not worth saving, because each continuation of the game with one of our successors means its total loss.
