The Routledge Companion to Mental Health at Work

The Routledge Companion to Mental Health at Work

The issue of mental health at work has become a hot topic in both the popular media and academic writings. Although job stress and mental ill-health are associated with negative outcomes for individuals teams and organizations there has been some suggestion that changing the work environment and creating healthy workplaces can improve worker health. Much of the current works in the general of health is fractured coming from a variety of disciplines and perspectives without an organizing framework to help guide research and practice in the area. Having this individualized compartmentalized perspective constrains our ability to fully understand the scope of the issue the key factors in supporting or detracting from one’s mental health and interventions focusing on mental health at work. Given the importance of understanding mental health at work and the current lack of coverage on workplace mental health there is a need for a book to provide a holistic overview of the issue targeting the environmental individual and group influences of mental health and well-being as well as the impact on individuals and workplaces. This handbook provides a conceptual framework for examining these issues. Each chapter offers an in-depth examination of the key facets of mental health at work focusing both on the seminal and current literature on the topic and practical suggestions for best practices for organizations. With contributions from leading experts authors address the state-of-the-art research and integrate current events that are shaping the way we work and our wellbeing at work. This edited collection will be of interest to researchers academics policymakers and advanced students in the fields of human resource management organizational psychology and management. | The Routledge Companion to Mental Health at Work

The Routledge Handbook of the Gig Economy

The Routledge Handbook of the Gig Economy

Research on the growth of the precarious economy is of signifi cant interest as the economy increasingly becomes dependent on gig work. However as platform and automated service work has grown there remains a chasm in understanding the key aspects of digital labour. This handbook presents comprehensive theoretical empirical and historical accounts of the political economy of informal work from the late 20th century to the present. It examines the rich and varied analysis and critique of the informalisation of work focusing on its most signifi cant theories intellectual traditions and authors. It highlights the political social cultural and developmental impact of the deterioration of employment in the Global North and Global South as well as the extreme threat posed to the planet by the growth of contingent work poverty and enduring and increasing inequalities produced and reproduced by the reformation of capitalism in the contemporary age of neoliberal capitalism. The period from the 1980s to the present is marked by the expanded extraction of surplus value from workers through the creation of non-standard jobs and the restructuring of work. A central component of the restructuring of work is the extension of gig employment through the development of algorithmic platforms which direct labourers to perform discrete tasks. This is a definitive collection representing the primary reference work contributing to our understanding of the subject. The book is written and presented in a clear manner accessible to scholars and researchers of international political economy labour economics and sociology who are eager for new research examining this phenomenon as well as specialists in the field of labour relations. The Routledge Companion to Vsevolod Meyerhold

The Routledge Companion to Vsevolod Meyerhold

The Routledge Companion to Vsevolod Meyerhold brings together a wealth of scholarship on one of the foremost innovators in European theatre. It presents a detailed picture of the Russian director’s work from when it first emerged on the modern stage to its multifarious present-day manifestations. By combining an historical focus with the latest contemporary research from an international range of perspectives and authors this collection marks an important moment in Meyerhold studies as well as offering a new assessment of his relation to today's theatre-making. Its dynamic blend of research is presented in five sections: Histories enlarges on more conventional subjects like the grotesque and Biomechanics to overlooked topics such as Meyerhold's ‘failed’ projects and his work in film; Collaborations and Connections extends understandings of Meyerhold’s well-known collaborative capacities to consider new cultural influences and lesser known working relationships; Sources engages with hitherto untapped material in Meyerhold’s oeuvre by reproducing and contextualising previously untranslated primary sources on his work; Practitioner Voices offer lively on the ground testimony of the contemporary impact of Meyerhold's practice; Meyerhold in New Contexts maps the routes of his practice across continents and examines ways in which his work is being applied in a number of contemporary scenarios such as motion capture computer-based 3D visualisations and the ‘new normal’ of digital pedagogy. This is a key resource for students and scholars of European Theatre acting theory and actor training as well as for those more broadly interested in the socio-political impact of theatre.
