Marabu - Textil Fabric Paint Starter Set (6 x 15ml)

Marabu - Textil Fabric Paint Starter Set (6 x 15ml)

Size: 15ml Colour(s): 6 x assorted* A great introductory set to textile painting Includes paints, accessories & instructions Water-based, opaque, all-purpose fabric paints Best used with light-coloured fabrics Washable up to 60°c (once fixed!) *please refer to Contents tab for more information Use your imagination & creativity to experiment with colours on textiles with this assorted set of 6 all-purpose fabric paints from Marabu! Water-based & easy to mix, they're ideal for stencilling, stamping or painting onto light-coloured fabrics.  This set includes a variety of 6 colours (listed in the contents tab below), along with a flat-tipped brush with synthetic bristles & a design template with detailed instructions. After settling on a design & fixing the fabric paints in place, your textiles will be washable up to 60°c, ensuring you can enjoy your very own custom designer pieces for some time! Removing finishes/pre-washing textiles Before painting, new textiles have to be washed at least once. Avoid fabric conditioners as they prevent the fibre from absorbing the paint & colour fastness after fixing can't be guaranteed. Double-layer textiles When painting double-layer textiles (t-shirts or pillow cases for instance), be sure to always place a piece of cardboard between the layers. Not only does this prevent the paint from seeping through, but it provides a stable, flat surface for easier painting. Suitable textiles Ensuring they're from finishes & detergents, Marabu textile paints can be used to paint on cotton, linen, jute, silk & mixed fabrics (with a max of 20% man-made fibres). Do not use on wool or knitwear as this cannot be fixed to be washable. Drying before fixing Painted textiles should only be fixed once the paint has fully dried. It's best to leave your work to dry overnight, if possible. Washing painted textiles Painted textiles must be washed inside out with a mild detergent. Never place a hot iron directly on the painted area, instead it's best to iron either from the reverse or through a cloth.

Beginning in 1998 with Lapus Lazuli, a mineralogist sources genuine minerals (some semi-precious), which are then processed into pigments before being milled into these artist-quality watercolours.  Occasionally described by artists as "magical", PrimaTeks aren't just attractive but also provide a sense of movement & depth through gorgeous granulation. Specially formulated to meet & exceed the highest industry standards, Daniel Smith artist-quality watercolours are available in several lines (Extra-Fine, PrimaTek & Luminescent).  Each & every batch is thoroughly analysed for its performance qualities including lightfastness, colour value, tinting strength, clarity, vibrancy, undertone, particle size, density & viscosity. Vibrant, consistently coloured & fully intermixable, they boast the widest range of highly-pigmented, unique colours in the world. Rhodonite Genuine 167 A versatile rose pink made using jewellery-quality stone, wonderful for portraits & landscapes. At full value, it is intense but still transparent, low-staining and non-granulating. Use wet on wet for a soft, transparent glow without granulation. Jadeite Genuine 195 An exceptionally beautiful colour made using the strong coloured minerals Jade & Nephrite. Incredibly versatile, produce all the shades we come to expect from Jade from deep, dark-green mass tones to the palest of washes. Amethyst Genuine 203 A rich, true purple that's almost black in mass tone & capable of infinite gradation. Thanks to the crushed gemstone, this granulating colour also produces attractive clear washes with just the barest hint of sparkle. Mayan Blue Genuine 211 A gorgeous green-tinged indigo, this was featured throughout Mayan culture (hence the name) & after 1000 years has hardly faded. Now, using ancient Mayan chemistry & eco-friendly processes, this unique, beautiful, metal-free pigment has been recreated. Piemontite Genuine 191 A rich, versatile colour ground from a scarlet-streaked mineral from the hills of Italy. At it's darkest, Piemontite has a deep ruddy violet tone & adding water produces an attractive violet-brown granulation with a carmine tone. Perfect for adding interest to shadows or painting the mottled surfaces of autumn leaves. Hematite Genuine 156 Ground from a heavy silvery-black mineral known as Hematite (or Bloodstone), which is naturally rich in iron. Producing a soft dove grey when applied in a thin wash & creating bold granulation in a thick wash.

Winsor & Newton - Designers Gouache Primary Set (6 x 14ml)

Winsor & Newton - Designers Gouache Primary Set (6 x 14ml)

Size: 14ml Colours: 6* *see Contents below Artist-Quality Gouache Ideal introduction to the medium Highly-pigmented & opaque Quick-drying to a matte finish *please refer to Contents tab below Introduced in 1937, and popular with designers, illustrators and commercial artists, Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache is a selection of vibrant, opaque water colours. Featuring 82 colours, chosen for their strength of colour, undertone and relative opacity, the extensive choice within the Designers Gouache range includes both bright and lightfast colours. Winsor & Newton's Designers Gouache Primary set offers a selection of 6 x 14ml tubes of colour, specifically selected to produce optimum results when colour mixing, to produce strong, bright mixes. This set includes: Primary Yellow (527), Primary Red (524), Primary Blue (523), Permanent Green Middle (484), Ivory Black (331) and Zinc White (748). What is gouache? Gouache is an opaque water-based paint which, in addition to its colour pigment, contains a white pigment, such as chalk, and a binder (usually Gum Arabic). It is the presence of the additional white pigment which gives the medium its characteristic opacity. Gouache is applied, with water, to a support such as water colour paper. The pigment fixes to the support upon evaporation of the water. Gouache dries very quickly and, unlike acrylic, can be reactivated with water. It is possible to overpaint dry gouache with lighter or darker colours, without activating the colour underneath, although this should be done carefully. Brushes used to apply gouache paint should be cared for in the same manner as water colour brushes, and need only mild soap and water to clean them after use. This video illustrates how simple it is to clean and care for water colour brushes. Why use Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache? Also available individually in 14ml and 37ml tubes, all Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache colours are fully intermixable within the range, and with Winsor & Newton Water Colours.Exceptionally high levels of pigmentation, along with the natural attribute of each pigment, strengthen the opacity of Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache. Drying to a matt finish, this provides both clean colour mixing and excellent covering power. The pigments used in the range determine the permanence of each individual colour. Further information on the permanence and durability of each shade is given on Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache colour chart. How does gouache differ from water colour paint? Originally used to illuminate manuscripts, gouache is heavier than traditional transparent water colour. Containing more colour pigment and an additional white pigment, particles of gouache paint are larger than those of water colour. The tiny particles of water colour pigment become enmeshed in the fibre of the paper being painted, whereas gouache colour rests on the surface of the paper, forming a continuous layer. More versatile than water colour, when gouache is applied with a bristle brush, it is possible to achieve a slight impasto effect. These videos show how gouache and water colour paint compare: An Introduction to the Differences Between Gouache and Water Colour Comparison of Gouache and Water Colour Painting. What to do if your tube dries up? Keeping the caps closed tightly on the tubes will help prevent the paint drying up. Once a tube has dried up, gouache cannot be re-softened. However, the colour may still be used by cutting open the tube, removing the dried paint, then crushing with a pestle and mortar. Place the powder in a container, add a small amount of water, a drop of Gum Arabic, and then mix thoroughly. The resulting mixture may be used as a wash. An alternative method is to add only a couple of drops of water to the powder, to make a paste.  Place the paste in a water colour pan or ice cube tray, and leave to dry. The dried cake of gouache can be used in the same way as a pan of water colour. Which surfaces best support gouache? When choosing a support for gouache, it is important to consider the absorbency, colour and stability of the paper. Our range of Water Colour Paper & Pads offers an extensive choice of size and style, to meet artists' every requirement. Which brushes are best for painting with gouache? Gouache and water colour paint have the same properties, and therefore require brushes with the same characteristics. Water Colour Brushes are designed to hold and evenly control colour, have a fine point, and are able to spring back into shape after every stroke. With a middle body able to hold a good reservoir of colour, a Sable Brush has excellent spring and resilience. The hairs are particularly strong at the brush's fine tip, allowing the brush to be used both delicately and aggressively. Advancements in the production of synthetic hair have resulted in a rise in popularity of Synthetic Water Colour Brushes, especially if price and durability are
