Sid Meier's Civilization V traditionally brings changes, both in the audiovisual production and its substantive content. Significant changes took place in the interface itself, which can now be described as transparent, minimalist and user-friendly. Not all options and functions are available immediately on the screen, but even the hidden ones can be accessed with a single mouse click. Notifications are now in the form of icons, so we no longer have to struggle through a long list of text messages. All these changes, however, only serve to facilitate control. For the first time in the history of the series, a hexogenala grid was introduced on the world map. Thanks to this solution, players gain additional tactical possibilities during warfare. The new way of presenting the universe also allows for a much more intuitive exploration of the territory and the development of the player's power. The combat system that has undergone considerable changes goes hand in hand with the new graphic design of the production. There can only be one unit of a given type on a given field (i.e. one military, civilian, airborne and special unit, each marked with an appropriate flag so that we do not get lost). This goes hand in hand with enhancing the importance of the terrain. Modifiers for attack or defense obtained from rivers, mountains, hills, etc. will now have more importance than in the previous parts of the cycle.
