Bridge of the Gods

Commissioned by the Oregon Symphonic Band in Portland, Bridge of the Gods is a dramatic three-movement symphonic poem presenting the colorful legend told by the Native American Klickitatst about the origins of the volcanicmountains of the Cascade range and legendary bridge. The first movement “Saghalie” pays tribute to the powerful chief of all gods and is based on a majestic fanfare theme. The 2nd movement captures the beauty of themaiden “Loowit” with haunting flute and english horns solos accompanied by soft chanting voices. The final movement “Tanmahawis” utilizes stark clusters, jagged melodic fragments and rhythmic percussiveenergy as it depicts the destruction of the mighty bridge. Sven-David Sandström: Messiah : Helmuth Rilling gewidmet

The Messiah, by the Swedish composer Sven-David Sandström, was commissioned by the Oregon Bach Festival and the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart to commemorate the Handel anniversary year 2009. In accordance with the wishes of these two institutions, the work is based on Charles Jennen’s English libretto which Handel set in his famous oratorio more than 260 years ago. Great expression and orchestral color characterize this Messiah of the 21st century, in which for Sandström modernity and euphony do not represent a contradiction corresponding to his artistic credo: “My music should be understandable on first hearing and should touch people.”

Ralph Towner: Solo Guitar Works - Volume 2

Towner is one of the most diversely talented musicians of the past half-century, having made notable recordings of classical, jazz, folk and world music. Following a classical-conservatory education, studying classical composition and guitar, Towner then joined world music pioneer Paul Winter's Consort ensemble in the late 1960s. Along with band members Paul McCandless, Glen Moore, and Collin Walcott, Towner left the Winter Consort in 1970 to form the group Oregon, which over the course of the 1970s issued a number of highly influential records mixing folk music, Indian classical forms, and avant-garde jazz-influenced free improvisation.As well as collaborating in concert and/or recording with many artists, Towner has recorded over two-hundred of his instrumental compositions, with works being commissioned and performed by some of the world?s leading orchestras.Available here is the second volume of solo works for guitar, including Always By Your Side, The Hollows, Toledo and more.

The Complete Scottish & English Country Dance Master for Recorders

The Artistic Directors of the award-winning Terra Nova Consort have been in residence at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for over ten years.
