A young woman, Iris, has her heart set on a singing career, and, despite her boyfriend Mark''s warnings, is seduced by the capitalist producer, ''dream lover M.G.'' He moulds her into a megastar, which leaves Mark peddling her merch: a life-sized Iris (sex) doll. Attempts to rescue Iris come to nothing; all they accomplish is allowing the dream lover to go on playing his games. The Tjong-Khing''s Iris marks the peak of his career as a comics artist. He and scriptwriter Lo Hartog van Banda wanted to reach the socially motivated young people of the late 1960s, who were growing up with comics and television. Khing''s style here, drawn with virtuoso elan, shows an affinity with his contemporaries, such as Guy Peellaert, and Iris herself is reminiscent of Barbarella. This edition includes an afterword by graphic designer and colourist Rudy Vrooman, which provides fascinating context about the historical and artistic significance of the work and its restoration process.

The accuracy of the iris recognition system is measured by False Reject Rate (FRR), which measures the authenticity of a user who is incorrectly rejected by the system due to changes in iris features (such as aging and health condition) and external factors that affect iris image, for instance, high noise rate. External factors such as technical fault, occlusion, and source of lighting that causes the image acquisition to produce distorted iris images create error, hence are incorrectly rejected by the biometric system. FRR can be reduced using wavelets and Gabor filters, cascaded classifiers, ordinal measures, multiple biometric modalities, and a selection of unique iris features. Nonetheless, in the long duration of the matching process, existing methods were unable to identify the authenticity of the user since the iris structure itself produces a template changed due to aging. In fact, the iris consists of unique features such as crypts, furrows, collarette, pigment blotches, freckles, and pupils that are distinguishable among humans. Earlier research was done by selecting unique iris features. However, these had low accuracy levels. A new way of identifying and matching the iris template using the nature-inspired algorithm is described in this book. It provides an overview of iris recognition that is based on nature-inspired environment technology. The book is useful for students from universities, polytechnics, community colleges; practitioners; and industry practitioners.

Formaldehyde is ubiquitous in indoor and outdoor air, and everyone is exposed to formaldehyde at some concentration daily. Formaldehyde is used to produce a wide array of products, particularly building materials; it is emitted from many sources, including power plants, cars, gas and wood stoves, and cigarettes; it is a natural product in come foods; and it is naturally present in the human body as a metabolic intermediate. Much research has been conducted on the health effects of exposure to formaldehyde, including effects on the upper airway, where formaldehyde is deposited when inhaled, and effects on tissues distant from the site of initial contact. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released noncancer and cancer assessments of formaldehyde for its Intergated Risk Information System (IRIS) in 1990 and 1991, respectively. The agency began reassessing formaldehyde in 1998 and released a draft IRIS assessment in June 2010. Given the complexity of the issues and the knowledge that the assessment will be used as the basis of regulatory decisions, EPA asked the National Research Council (NRC) to conduct an independent scientific review of the draft IRIS assessment. In this report, the Committee to Review EPA's Draft IRIS Assessment of Formaldehyde first addresses some general issues associated with the draft IRIS assessment. The committee next focuses on questions concerning specific aspects of the draft assessment, including derivation of the reference concentrations and the cancer unit risk estimates for formaldehyde. The committee closes with recommendations for improving the IRIS assessment of formaldehyde and provides some general comments on the IRIS development process.
