Vulnerability Management - Park Foreman - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Vulnerability Management - Park Foreman - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Vulnerability management (VM) has been around for millennia. Cities, tribes, nations, and corporations have all employed its principles. The operational and engineering successes of any organization depend on the ability to identify and remediate a vulnerability that a would-be attacker might seek to exploit. What were once small communities became castles. Cities had fortifications and advanced warning systems. All such measures were the result of a group recognizing their vulnerabilities and addressing them in different ways. Today, we identify vulnerabilities in our software systems, infrastructure, and enterprise strategies. Those vulnerabilities are addressed through various and often creative means. Vulnerability Management demonstrates a proactive approach to the discipline. Illustrated with examples drawn from Park Foreman’s more than three decades of multinational experience, the book demonstrates how much easier it is to manage potential weaknesses than to clean up after a violation. Covering the diverse realms that CISOs need to know and the specifics applicable to singular areas of departmental responsibility, he provides both the strategic vision and action steps needed to prevent the exploitation of IT security gaps, especially those that are inherent in a larger organization. Completely updated, the second edition provides a fundamental understanding of technology risks—including a new chapter on cloud vulnerabilities and risk management—from an interloper’s perspective. This book is a guide for security practitioners, security or network engineers, security officers, and CIOs seeking understanding of VM and its role in the organization. To serve various audiences, it covers significant areas of VM. Chapters on technology provide executives with a high-level perspective of what is involved. Other chapters on process and strategy, although serving the executive well, provide engineers and security managers with perspective on the role of VM technology and processes in the success of the enterprise.

Non-Isolated DC-DC Converters for Renewable Energy Applications - Frede Blaabjerg - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Photovoltaic (PV) energy generation is an excellent example of large-scale electric power generation through various parallel arrangements of small voltage-generating solar cells or modules. However, PV generation systems require power electronic converters system to satisfy the need for real-time applications or to balance the demand for power from electric. Therefore, a DC-DC power converter is a vital constituent in the intermediate conversion stage of PV power. This book presents a comprehensive review of various non-isolated DC-DC power converters. Non-isolated DC-DC converters for renewable energy system (RES) application presented in this book 1 st edition through a detailed original investigation, obtained numerical/experimental results, and guided the scope to design new families of converters: - - - DC-DC multistage power converter topologies, - - - Multistage "X-Y converter family", - - - Nx IMBC (Nx Interleaved Multilevel Boost Converter), - - - Cockcroft Walton (CW) Voltage Multiplier-Based Multistage/Multilevel Power Converter (CW-VM-MPC) converter topologies, and - - - Z-source and quasi Z-source. - Above solutions are discussed to show how they can achieve the maximum voltage conversion gain ratio by adapting the passive/active component within the circuits. For assessment, we have recommended novel power converters through their functionality and designs, tested and verified by numerical software. Further, the hardware prototype implementation is carried out through a flexible digital processor. Both numerical and experimental results always shown as expected close agreement with primary theoretical hypotheses. This book offers guidelines and recommendation for future development with the DC-DC converters for RES applications based on cost-effective, and reliable solutions.

Beyond the Reach of Time and Change - Simon J. Ortiz - Bog - University of Arizona Press - Plusbog.dk

Beyond the Reach of Time and Change - Simon J. Ortiz - Bog - University of Arizona Press - Plusbog.dk

Around the turn of the twentieth century, most photographs of Indians pandered to shameless, insensitive stereotypes. In contrast, photographic portraits made by Frank A. Rinehart conveyed the dignity and pride of Native peoples. More than 545 Native Americans representing tribes from all over the country attended the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition in Omaha in 1898 to be part of an event known as the Indian Congress. Rinehart, the exposition’s official photographer, and his assistant Adolph Muhr made more than 500 glass-plate negatives depicting Native Americans in their traditional dress, now housed at Haskell Indian Nations University and regarded as one of the best photographic documentations of Indian leaders from this era. This book provides an unusual perspective on the Rinehart collection. It features one hundred outstanding images printed from the original negatives made by Rinehart and Muhr at the Congress and over the course of the next two years. It also includes 14 essays by modern Native American writers, artists, and educators—some of them descendants of the individuals photographed—reflecting on the place of these images in their heritage. Beyond the Reach of Time and Change is not another coffee-table book of historical Indian photographs but rather a conversation between Indian people of a century ago and today. Just as the Rinehart collection offers today's Native Americans a unique connection to the past, this book offers all readers a positive understanding of continuity and endurance within the American Indian community.

The Macedonian Question and the Macedonians - Alexis (panteion University Heraclides - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The Macedonian Question and the Macedonians - Alexis (panteion University Heraclides - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

This book is a comprehensive and dispassionate analysis of the intriguing Macedonian Question from 1878 until 1949 and of the Macedonians (and of their neighbours) from the 1890s until today, with the two themes intertwining. The Macedonian Question was an offshoot of the wider Eastern Question – i.e., the fate of the European remnants of the Ottoman Empire once it dissolved. The initial protagonists of the Macedonian Question were Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia, and a Slav-speaking population inhabiting geographical Macedonia in search of its destiny, the largest segment of which ended up creating a new nation, comprising the Macedonians, something unacceptable to its three neighbours. Alexis Heraclides analyses the shifting sands of the Macedonian Question and of the gradual rise of Macedonian nationhood, with special emphasis on the Greek, Bulgarian and Serbian claims to Macedonia (1870s–1919); the birth and vicissitudes of the most famous Macedonian revolutionary organization, the VM(O)RO, and of other organizations (1893–1940); the appearance and gradual establishment of the Macedonian nation from the 1890s until 1945; Titos’s crucial role in Macedonian nationhood-cum-federal status; the Greek-Macedonian name dispute (1991–2018), including the ‘skeletons in the cupboard’ – the deep-seated reasons rendering the clash intractable for decades; the final Greek-Macedonian settlement (the 2018 Prespa Agreement); the Bulgarian-Macedonian dispute (1950–today) and its ephemeral settlement in 2017; the issue of the Macedonian language; and the Macedonian national historical narrative. The author also addresses questions around who the ancient Macedonians were and the fascination with Alexander the Great. This monograph will be an essential resource for scholars working on Macedonian history, Balkan politics and conflict resolution.
