Pop Art - Liesje Vandenbroeck - Bog - Vereniging voor het Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst - Plusbog.dk

The exhibition catalogue brings together 40 top works from the Matthys‐Colle private collection, which S.M.A.K. received on long‐term loan, and the S.M.A.K. museum collection. In 2019, the Flemish Community acquired Great American Nude #45 (1963) by Tom Wesselmann from the Matthys‐Colle Collection. The purchase was coupled with the long‐term loan of 39 other artworks from the same collection to the museum. This event marked the starting point of a unique and important public‐private partnership in Belgium, from which the exhibition stems. Representative works of pop art from the Matthys‐Colle Collection by Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Roy Lichtenstein, Konrad Klapheck and others are brought together with a selection from the S.M.A.K. collection. Pop Art originated in London and New York in the 1950s and was initially a Western phenomenon. As a visual response to the unprecedented consumerism of the 1960s, its imagery was borrowed from the mass media world of advertising, magazines, television and film. The accessible style quickly captured the imagination of many young European artists and they too embraced the movement. Pop Art penetrated deeply into everyday life and gave rise to images so distinct and recognisable that their presence can still be felt today. The issues that formed a rich breeding ground for the pop art artists are as blisteringly topical as ever: from mass consumption and technological progress to sexual morality, race riots and gender equality. Not only do the themes remain recognisable to this very day, but pop art also remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the fashion, design and broader entertainment industries. Shows 40 works from Valerio Adami, Evelyne Axell, Marcel Broodthaers, Christo, Raoul De Keyser, Guy Degobert, Jim Dine, Etienne Elias, Jef Geys, Raymond Hains, Allen Jones, Konrad Klapheck, Tetsumi Kudo, Roy Lichtenstein, Konrad Lueg, Pol Mara, Claes Oldenburg, Panamarenko, Peter Phillips, Robert Rauschenberg, Roger Raveel, Jean‐Pierre Raynaud, Martial Raysse, Gerhard Richter, James Rosenquist, Mimmo Rotella, George Segal, Daniel Spoerri, Emilio Tadini, Jacques Villeglé , Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann. Text in English, French and Dutch.

Expressive and Creative Arts Methods for Trauma Survivors - Lois Carey - Bog - Jessica Kingsley Publishers - Plusbog.dk

Expressive and Creative Arts Methods for Trauma Survivors - Lois Carey - Bog - Jessica Kingsley Publishers - Plusbog.dk

With the increasing probability of floods, wars, and human displacement, there will be a great need for health care professionals to help. The arts provide a new, human, and cost-effective way to bring relief and to ease some of the human suffering associated with trauma. The editor, Lois Carey, presents a compelling rationale for the use of the arts therapies to work with trauma. First, it is now clear that traumatized children have difficulty using words to describe their experience. Drawing, play, music and other creative forms allow for an indirect expression that reduces anxiety, and they also help to establish a therapeutic relationship and an area of safety. The same is true for traumatized adults, who are often nonverbal... this book can be a beginning of much-needed documentation of the use of the expressive arts methods for trauma survivors and will provide a significant and useful introduction to the field for health professionals.''- PsycCRITIQUES''I think the descriptions of the methods are interesting and they show a lot of experience in the field of trauma-treatment. It is a well written, very readable book of the practice.''-Tijdschrift voor Vaktherapie (Journal of Therapy)''This book throws more light on different expressive and creative arts methods in the treatment of trauma. In detailed case studies and research, the authors offer an overview of creative arts methods aiming at brain functions which are not always being reached by verbal therapy alone.''-Tijdschrift voor Vaktherapie (Journal of Therapy)''The authors use a rich mix of interesting case material and useful explanation of the techniques for the uninitiated.''- Therapy Today''A very good job of promoting the use of expressive arts therapy to complement talking therapies and achieve results that talking therapy cannot.''- Play Therapy UK''If you are a parent, dealing daily with the effects of traumatised children, and especially finding it difficult to firstly access specialist therapy and secondly to understand the principles in relation to your child, then this book will give you a clear understanding of the aims and outcomes of therapies which may be on offer.''- www.adoption-net.co.ukExpressive and Creative Arts Methods for Trauma Survivors demonstrates how play, art, and music therapies, as well as sandplay, psychodrama and storytelling, can be used to aid the recovery of trauma victims.Drawing on detailed case studies and a growing body of evidence of the benefits of non-verbal therapies, the contributors-all leading practitioners in their fields-provide an overview of creative therapies that tap into sensate aspects of the brain not always reached by verbal therapy alone. Methods of exploring traumatic experiences with a view to limiting patients'' distress are also explored. The techniques discussed are appropriate for work with children, families and groups and are based on established approaches, including Jungian, Child-centred, Gestalt and Freudian theories.Expressive and Creative Arts Methods for Trauma Survivors will be an enlightening read for expressive and specialized arts therapists and for students and academics in these fields.

Fragments of Repair - Kader Attia - Bog - MIT Press Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Fragments of Repair - Kader Attia - Bog - MIT Press Ltd - Plusbog.dk

A handbook that activates Kader Attia’s proposition of decolonial repair, featuring original essays and conversations from diverse global contributors. Today’s entwined crises, from ecological catastrophe to the COVID-19 pandemic to wars in Ukraine and across the world, reveal deep-seated wounds that issue from historical colonialisms and present-day authoritarianisms, economic disparity and growing racial violence, and the abuses inflicted on vulnerable populations and the planet. To address this disquieting chaos, Fragments of Repair, co-conceptualized by artist and curator Kader Attia with curators and researchers Maria Hlavajova and Wietske Maas, offers a collection of long- and short-form essays, visual essays, and conversations on decolonial repair as both a tool and a tactic of engagement with the current state of the world. The book, which includes major voices such as that of Achille Mbembe and Ruth Wilson Gilmore, develops Attia’s ongoing inquiry into the possibility of enacting “repair” in the acute context of brokenness, which brings chronic uncertainty, social isolation, exhaustion, loss, and fear into sharper relief. What pathways could repair, rather than return to, past ways? How can we develop collective tools for emancipation and resistance? And, in the face of what is irreparable, how can we meaningfully address wounds and scars, which are deeply tied to European modernity? Contributors: Norman Ajari, Kader Attia, Souleymane Bachir Diagne, Momar Gueye, Maria Hlavajova, Kader Attia, Wietske Maas, Catherine Malabou, Olivier Marboeuf, Achille Mbembe, Wayne Modest, Omedi Ochieng, Stefania Pandolfo, Luciana Parisi, Rachael Rakes, Rolando Vázquez, Françoise Vergès, Eyal Weizman, Ruth Wilson GilmoreA BASICS series reader copublished with BAK, basis voor actuele kunst.

That very night in Max’s room a forest grew... - Gijs Frieling - Bog - APE - Plusbog.dk

That very night in Max’s room a forest grew... - Gijs Frieling - Bog - APE - Plusbog.dk

Don’t be misled by the sweet pictures in pretty colours, for we’re dealing with a radical artist here. This anarchist in angel’s clothing contravenes a number of contemporary art’s unwritten laws. Gijs Frieling is a standard-bearer for ornament and decoration and he embraces exuberance. His representations are not minimal but maximal, as full as can be, and there’s always room for an extra flower. Gijs couldn’t care less about the concepts of novelty and originality; on the contrary, he wants to work as unadventurously and predictably as possible. His paintings are jam-packed with repetition and he often falls back on the same elements. Also, he copies to his heart’s delight – his own work and that of others, in versions that are painted (on glass) or embroidered (by his mother) and the distinction between the copy and the original doesn’t interest him in the slightest. Moreover, his work is not critical but it is pleasing, it is incredibly beautiful, and on top of this he is a Christian. (Nanda Janssen)This book contains 10 visual essays photographed by Johannes Schwartz and conversations with the patrons of commissioned murals in private collections by Hanne Hagenaars:“The patrons who speak in this book are the brave among art buyers: their walls bear a mural by Gijs Frieling, and that’s not something you can put away, or put into storage, turn to face the wall or sell. Painting over it is a possibility but if you have finally decided to enter into this commitment, moving house seems like a more realistic way of escaping from the work than a white coat of paint on top of it. But not a single owner that I spoke to is tired of the artwork; on the contrary. It seems that the whole ritual of deciding, discussing and allowing the artist into your house changes your position as a buyer: the patron is no longer a consumer but an accomplice. ” (Hanne Hagenaars) With the generous support of Mondriaanfonds, Jaap Hartenfonds and Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunsten
