Towards Nearly Zero Energy - Annarita Ferrante - Bog - Elsevier Science & Technology - Plusbog.dk

Towards Nearly Zero Energy: Urban Settings in the Mediterranean Climate discusses tactics that can be used to effectively reduce energy consumption towards zero energy. With energy usage in buildings accounting for over 40% of primary energy use and 24% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, this remains an unavoidable objective. The book looks at the life of the systems of energy production from renewable sources amidst the exceptionally challenging global economic crisis that the Mediterranean areas and other societies are currently experiencing. By using an innovative and interdisciplinary approach of socio-oriented technological design, the book indicates tools and measures that can be developed at the public, legislative, and market levels to counterbalance the large pay-back times of energy efficiency measures. In particular, the book displays guidelines and best practices to activate new forms of economic incentives in order to attract potential investors that demonstrate that a large set of possible solutions is technically feasible to achieve nearly zero energy, even in high energy consuming circumstances and urban settings. Furthermore, by discussing and comparing the economic and energy impact of different technology options, this work offers guidelines and best practices to activate new cost-effective forms and social incentives in order to attract both potential investors and motivate the urban stakeholders toward nearly zero energy.

The Transcendental Turn - - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

The Transcendental Turn - - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

Kant''s influence on the history of philosophy is vast and protean. The transcendental turn denotes one of its most important forms, defined by the notion that Kant''s deepest insight should not be identified with any specific epistemological or metaphysical doctrine, but rather concerns the fundamental standpoint and terms of reference of philosophical enquiry. To take the transcendental turn is not to endorse any of Kant''s specific teachings, but to accept that the Copernican revolution announced in the Preface of the Critique of Pure Reason sets philosophy on a new footing and constitutes the proper starting point of philosophical reflection. The aim of this volume is to map the historical trajectory of transcendental philosophy and the major forms that it has taken. The contributions, from leading contemporary scholars, focus on the question of what the transcendental turn consists in--its motivation, justification, and implications; and the limitations and problems which it arguably confronts--with reference to the relevant major figures in modern philosophy, including Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Nietzsche, Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, and Wittgenstein. Central themes and topics discussed include the distinction of realism from idealism, the relation of transcendental to absolute idealism, the question of how transcendental conclusions stand in relation to (and whether they can be made compatible with) naturalism, the application of transcendental thought to foundational issues in ethics, and the problematic relation of phenomenology to transcendental enquiry.

Jean-Luc Nancy after the Theological Turn - Nikolaas Cassidy Deketelaere - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing PLC - Plusbog.dk

Jean-Luc Nancy after the Theological Turn - Nikolaas Cassidy Deketelaere - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing PLC - Plusbog.dk

A novel and profound reading of Jean-Luc Nancy’s deconstruction of Christianity in the context of French phenomenology’s ‘theological turn’, this is an important contribution to continental philosophy of religion. Deftly exploring Nancy’s work alongside major twentieth-century philosophers of religion including Jean-Luc Marion, Michel Henry, Jean-Louis Chrétien and Emmanuel Falque, Jean-Luc Nancy after the Theological Turn argues that only by turning to theology can phenomenology come into its own as philosophy. Following Derrida’s treatment of Nancy, Nikolaas Cassidy-Deketelaere thinks ‘after’ the theological turn by deconstructing phenomenology’s inherent theological structure which made that turn possible: starting from the theological turn phenomenology was structurally inclined to produce, this book seeks to move beyond it (i.e., to ‘de-theologise’ phenomenology). This parallels Nancy’s engagement with Christianity: drawing on Paul’s kenosis —according to which God empties himself of his divinity in the Incarnation—he understands Christianity as deconstructing or de-theologising itself. Written in elegant and clear prose, in elaborating Nancy’s little-discussed writing on Christianity this volume clarifies the philosophical project of one of the most influential contemporary thinkers. Cassidy-Deketelaere persuasively establishes the radical significance of theology for phenomenology and explains the consequences of that relationship for the recent history of contemporary philosophy.
