Incidental Trainer - Margaret Wan - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Incidental Trainer - Margaret Wan - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

"We have trained and trained. The employees still don’t get it!" Although a critical component in improving organizational performance, training is usually not conducted effectively and results in a waste of resources. Often, subject-matter experts are given training responsibilities because of their technical expertise; however, just as often, these subject-matter experts, or "incidental trainers," do not have a background in adult education, training, or facilitation. Incidental Trainer: A Reference Guide for Training Design, Development, and Delivery provides an evidence-based reference to successful training for subject-matter experts in any discipline who want to achieve the effectiveness of a professional trainer. Organizations assume that subject-matter experts can train others, creating difficult situations for incidental trainers who may be at a loss on where to begin. This book guides incidental trainers through the process of training design, development, and delivery to help them achieve effectiveness in their training program. It explains the fundamental steps from assessing the training needs to validating the training program. The book then discusses advanced topics, such as how to build a business case for the training budget and training in the virtual environment. The changing demographics of the workforce and technologies in delivery methods require adoption of new instructional strategies. Packed with practical tips for implementation in the real world, the book clearly details training techniques that incidental trainers can use to become proficient as professional trainers in enhancing training effectiveness to support organizational goals.

Production, Presentation, and Acceleration of Educational Research: Could Less be More? - - Bog - Springer Verlag, Singapore - Plusbog.dk

Production, Presentation, and Acceleration of Educational Research: Could Less be More? - - Bog - Springer Verlag, Singapore - Plusbog.dk

Is educational research chasing the trends one can observe in big sciences, mimicking what happens, some would say successfully, elsewhere in academia? The question in the title of this edited collection took its inspiration from a verse by Goethe: Wer Großes will, muss sich zusammenraffen. In der Beschränkung zeigt sich erst der Meister. Such confinement or limitation that may show mastery does not characterize at all the present state of the educational research publication scene. Instead, there have never been more of such publications which follow each other with an increasing speed. It may therefore be interesting to delve into the reasons of this development that is characteristic of what is published in this field as in many or almost all fields of scholarly work. The chapters in this collection address aspects of the (re)presentation, dissemination and reception, and the production and acceleration of educational research. An international group of scholars, philosophers and historians of education, address questions such as ''Why publish?'', ''The lust for academic fame'', ''Why educational historiography is not an unnecessary luxury?'', and ''Ways of knowing''. The twelve chapters are preceded by an introduction where issues of plurality and diversity in the study of education are at centre stage and followed by an Epilogue written by the Editors of the Springer Series Educational Research. Paul Smeyers and Marc Depaepe offer some final reflections after a journey of two decades that took them and the colleagues participating in the Research Community from 1999 till 2018 floating on the current of the Zeitgeist that carried the Discipline of Education. They claim finally that mastery in the study of education requires restraint.

A Resilience Approach to Acceleration of Sustainable Development Goals - - Bog - Springer Verlag, Singapore - Plusbog.dk

A Resilience Approach to Acceleration of Sustainable Development Goals - - Bog - Springer Verlag, Singapore - Plusbog.dk

This is the first book to articulate how to address interlinkages among sustainable development goals (SDGs), which are keys to implementing those goals by 2030. At the heart of the book is a resilience approach to the enabling relevant systems, practices, and education and research. While SDGs are well known at different levels from local to global spheres, a major gap can be seen between goals and approaches, as approaches are lacking for addressing interlinkages among SDGs. The United Nations General Assembly in 2015 acknowledged interlinkages as being of crucial importance in ensuring the purpose of the goals. However, few actual approaches have been specified to address the interlinkages or interconnections at both the policy and practical levels. Thus, it is urgent to face the question of how to address the interlinkages by stakeholders-not only policy communities and researchers but also practitioners and students, especially innovators who can go beyond existing boundaries. By highlighting that challenge, this book lays out a path for addressing interlinkages among SDGs by applying a resilience approach to the issues of a sustainable society. The resilience approach has been developed from combinations of different modes of thinking and practices, including the systems approach, systems and design thinking, and resilience thinking and practices. Based on this overarching approach, innovators seek out the relevance of that approach to their SDGs-related practices at the system, local, and educational levels. The book therefore serves as a guide to how the resilience approach can contribute to accelerating implementation of SDGs by 2030.

The Sociology of Speed - - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

The Sociology of Speed - - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

There is a widespread perception that life is faster than it used to be. We hear constant laments that we live too fast, that time is scarce, and that the pace of everyday life is spiraling out of our control. The iconic image that abounds is that of the frenetic, technologically tethered, iPhone/iPad-addicted citizen. Yet weren''t modern machines supposed to save, and thereby free up, time? The purpose of this book is to bring a much-needed sociological perspective to bear on speed: it examines how speed and acceleration came to signify the zeitgeist, and explores the political implications of this. Among the major questions addressed are: when did acceleration become the primary rationale for technological innovation and the key measure of social progress? Is acceleration occurring across all sectors of society and all aspects of life, or are some groups able to mobilise speed as a resource while others are marginalised and excluded? Does the growing centrality of technological mediations (of both information and communication) produce slower as well as faster times, waiting as well as ''busyness'', stasis as well as mobility? To what extent is the contemporary imperative of speed as much a cultural artefact as a material one? To make sense of everyday life in the twenty-first century, we must begin by interrogating the social dynamics of speed. This book shows how time is a collective accomplishment, and that temporality is experienced very differently by diverse groups of people, especially between the affluent and those who service them.

Deleuze and Slowness - Dr Krzysztof Skonieczny - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing PLC - Plusbog.dk

Deleuze and Slowness - Dr Krzysztof Skonieczny - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing PLC - Plusbog.dk

Focusing on the concept of slowness in Gilles Deleuze’s philosophy, this book diverges from the conventional interpretation of Deleuze as a philosopher of speed or even accelerationism, instead delving into the minor but critical themes in his works, from idiocy to catatonia. Advocating for a pragmatic reading of its source material, it utilises Deleuze’s thought to address the urgent challenges in contemporary political and social philosophy, particularly the issue of acceleration in its subjective, socio-political, and ecological dimensions. The first part discusses the significance of analysing “slowness” and introduces the problem of social acceleration, featuring also the relationship of Deleuze’s thought with theorists rarely invoked in Deleuzian scholarship, such as Martha Nussbaum or Hartmut Rosa. Using a wide range of examples and sources such as the lesser explored Deleuzian literary inspiration Heinrich von Kleist and Madame de La Fayette, the second part of the book delves deeper into the three manifestations of slowness in Deleuze’s philosophy: the conceptual personae of the idiot, the animal, and the catatonic. These personae and the concepts they help develop are explored as potential strategies of active resistance against the facets of social acceleration. With this book that radically opposes today’s enamourment with speed and efficiency, Krzysztof Skonieczny shows how a Deleuzian theory of slowness can inspire productive resistance in the three areas that have been most vulnerable to omnipresent acceleration: our subjectivity, profoundly changed by the accelerating pace of life; our socio-political milieu, ruled by corporate efficiency; and our relationship to the environment, quickly heading towards catastrophe.

Relativistically Intense Laser–Microplasma Interactions - Tobias Ostermayr - Bog - Springer Nature Switzerland AG - Plusbog.dk

Relativistically Intense Laser–Microplasma Interactions - Tobias Ostermayr - Bog - Springer Nature Switzerland AG - Plusbog.dk

This dissertation covers several important aspects of relativistically intense laser-microplasma interactions and some potential applications. A Paul-trap based target system was developed to provide fully isolated, well defined and well positioned micro-sphere-targets for experiments with focused peta-watt laser pulses. The laser interaction turned such targets into microplasmas, emitting proton beams with kinetic energies exceeding 10 MeV. The proton beam kinetic energy spectrum and spatial distribution were tuned by variation of the acceleration mechanism, reaching from broadly distributed spectra in relatively cold plasma expansions to spectra with relative energy spread as small as 20% in spherical multi-species Coulomb explosions and in directed acceleration processes. Numerical simulations and analytical calculations support these experimental findings and show how microplasmas may be used to engineer laser-driven proton sources. In a second effort, tungsten micro-needle-targets were used at a peta-watt laser to produce few-keV x-rays and 10-MeV-level proton beams simultaneously, both measured to have only few-µm effective source-size. This source was used to demonstrate single-shot simultaneous radiographic imaging with x-rays and protons of biological and technological samples. Finally, the dissertation discusses future perspectives and directions for laser-microplasma interactions including non-spherical target shapes, as well as thoughts on experimental techniques and advanced quantitative image evaluation for the laser driven radiography.
