Care Management in Social and Primary Health Care - Karen Stewart - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

This title was first published in 2003: This book provides an evaluation of the Gateshead Community Care Scheme which was devised as an alternative to residential and hospital care for frail elderly people. An important feature of the scheme was the decentralization of control of resources to individual social workers acting as care managers, with defined caseloads and expenditure limits to ensure accountability. The initial social social care scheme was subsequently extended to provide both health and social care to clients from a large general practice based in a health centre. The social care team was enlarged to include a nurse care manager and part-time doctor and physiotherapist. The study examines the operation of care management in both settings, the use of devolved budgets and services developed, the outcomes for clients and carers and the costs of care. Admissions to residential care were reduced and the elderly people who received the scheme’s support experienced a better quality of care and greater well-being when compared with elderly people receiving the usual range of services. This was achieved at no greater cost. The characteristics of those for whom the scheme was most appropriate are described. In addition, the pattern of development of the scheme as it was incorporated into the mainstream of the Social Services and after the implementation of the NHS and Community Care Act are examined. Final, the implications for the development of care management are considered.

Care and Coronavirus - - Bog - Emerald Publishing Limited - Plusbog.dk

Care and Coronavirus - - Bog - Emerald Publishing Limited - Plusbog.dk

The COVID-19 pandemic radically altered the everyday worlds of children, young people and families. Exploring their experiences and practices of care during this period, Care and Coronavirus: Perspectives on Childhood, Youth and Family brings developments in the field of Childhood Studies into productive dialogue with care to forge new ways of thinking through care and childhood. Split into five sections, each bookended with a practitioner reflection, the chapters discuss how the pandemic engendered and necessitated novel forms of caregiving and experiences of receiving care. Highlighting changes to everyday norms and routines, contributors focus on diverse spaces of care and incorporate perspectives from children, practitioners, policymakers and academics. Investigating early childhood systems of care, children and young people’s health and wellbeing, parents as subjects and recipients of care, schooling as care and young people navigating care and control beyond school, authors offer key reflections for thinking through these experiences during the pandemic, challenging the inequalities and commodification of care that was revealed in these times. Arguing that COVID-19 heightened the attention paid to care and the ways in which care is vital for the maintenance of ourselves and the world around us, Care and Coronavirus calls for a reflection on the failures and successes of care during the pandemic and in its aftermath so that we can plan for a more caring future.

Access, Quality and Satisfaction with Care - - Bog - Emerald Publishing Limited - Plusbog.dk

Access, Quality and Satisfaction with Care - - Bog - Emerald Publishing Limited - Plusbog.dk

Traditionally in health services research, cost, quality and access to care have been viewed as the three major issues of health care delivery and have been important in the development of health services research as a multidisciplinary way to examine issues in health care and health care delivery. Satisfaction is often viewed as a specialized aspect of access to care. Given the sociological focus of this volume, costs are less of a focus, but access, quality and satisfaction are important sociological aspects of health services delivery concerns and have been for more than 30 years. This volume explores a variety of those issues in today''s health care system, with a strong sociological focus. Besides the introductory section of the volume, the other sections of the volume focus on articles that are about patients and special types of care, elderly care issues, issues of access, quality and satisfaction with care from the perspective of foreign health care systems, and these issues in public systems of care. Some of the specific chapters look at issues of care for Vietnam veterans, patients with myocardial infarctions, and dental care and maternity care, elderly care issues, and what can be learned from explorations of some aspects of the health care systems of Canada and Hungary. "Access, Quality and Satisfaction with Care" is essential reading for medical sociologists and people working in other social science disciplines studying health-related issues. The volume also provides vital information for health services researchers, policy analysts and public health researchers. It looks at health care from a sociological perspective that is more focused on access, quality and satisfaction than cost. The chapters focus on specialized forms of care and specific issues (i.e. Vietnam Veterans, dental and maternity care, elderly care issues, health care systems in different countries, etc.). It is essential for medical sociologists and others in social science industries studying health-related issues.

Palliative Care - - Bog - Humana Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

Palliative Care - - Bog - Humana Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

A clinical case-based handbook has a role in general clinicians'' practice of caring for patients with serious or life-limiting illness. The explosion of the field of Hospice and Palliative Medicine impacts all physicians and healthcare providers. Fellowship trained s- cialists graduate in greater numbers annually. These and more seasoned specialists are now certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties as subspecialists. Research in this field is expanding in scope and quantity, and peer reviewed journals devoted to this work are multiplying. Moreover, peer reviewed journals in primary care and other subspecialties of medicine regularly include papers that focus on end-of-life care, quality of life issues, and symptom management. Overall then, access to clinical information necessary to care for patients with life-limiting illness is not only essential, but also increasingly available. This case-based clinical book aims to help with the actual practice of caring for patients with life-limiting illness. Numerous texts and journals exist to provide the data to inform care, yet there remains a need to find practical points and information about the practical application of the principles of palliative care. Thus, we hope that the cases, key points, and practical tips will help health care providers who are not experts already in palliative care in the care of patients with serious illness and challenging problems. Some chapters follow one patient through the course of an illness to highlight the applicability of palliative care throughout the disease process.
