Kant's Modal Metaphysics - Nicholas F. Stang - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

Kant's Modal Metaphysics - Nicholas F. Stang - Bog - Oxford University Press - Plusbog.dk

What is possible and why? What is the difference between the merely possible and the actual? In Kants Modal Metaphysics Nicholas Stang examines Kants lifelong engagement with these questions and their role in his philosophical development. This is the first book to trace Kants theory of possibility all theway from the so-called pre-Critical writings of the 1750s and 1760s to the Critical system of philosophy inaugurated by the Critique of Pure Reason in 1781. Stang argues that the key to understanding both the change and the continuity between Kants pre-Critical and Critical theory of possibility is his transformation of the ontological question about possibility-what is it for a being to be possible?-into a question in transcendental philosophy-what is it to represent an object as possible? The first half of Kants Modal Metaphysics explores Kants pre-Critical theory of possibility, including his answer to the ontological question about the nature of possibility, his rejection of the traditional ontological argument for the existence of God, and his own argument that God must exist to ground all possibility. The second half examines why Kant reoriented his theory of possibility around the transcendental question, what this question means, and how Kant answered it in the Critical philosophy. Stang shows that, despite this reorientation, Kants basic scheme for thinking about possibility remains constant from the pre-Critical period through the Critical system. What had been an ontological theory of possible being is reinterpreted, in the Critical system, as a theory of how we must represent possible objects, given the nature of our intellect.

The Load-pull Method of RF and Microwave Power Amplifier Design - John F. Sevic - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

The Load-pull Method of RF and Microwave Power Amplifier Design - John F. Sevic - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

Using the load-pull method for RF and microwave power amplifier design This new book on RF power amplifier design, by industry expert Dr. John F. Sevic, provides comprehensive treatment of RF PA design using the load-pull method, the most widely used and successful method of design. Intended for the newcomer to load-pull, or the seasoned expert, the book presents a systematic method of generation of load-pull contour data, and matching network design, to rapidly produce a RF PA with first-pass success. The method is suitable from HF to millimeter-wave bands, discrete or integrated, and for high-power applications. Those engaged in design or fundamental research will find this book useful, as will the student new to RF and interested in PA design. The author presents a complete pedagogical methodology for RF PA design, starting with treatment of automated contour generation to identify optimum transistor performance with constant source power load-pull. Advanced methods of contour generation for simultaneous optimization of many variables, such as power, efficiency, and linearity are next presented. This is followed by treatment of optimum impedance identification using contour data to address specific objectives, such as optimum efficiency for a given linearity over a specific bandwidth. The final chapter presents a load-pull specific treatment of matching network design using load-pull contour data, applicable to both single-stage and multi-stage PA's. Both lumped and distributed matching network synthesis methods are described, with several worked matching network examples. Readers will see a description of a powerful and accessible method that spans multiple RF PA disciplines, including 5G base-station and mobile applications, as well as sat-com and military applications; load-pull with CAD systems is also included. They will review information presented through a practical, hands-on perspective. The book: Helps engineers develop systematic, accurate, and repeatable approach to RF PA designProvides in-depth coverage of using the load-pull method for first-pass design successOffers 150 illustrations and six case studies for greater comprehension of topics

The Technique of the Professional Make-Up Artist - Vincent Kehoe - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

A classic in its field since its original publication, The Technique of the Professional Make-Up Artist is now revised, updated and paperback for a new generation of professionals. This encyclopedic resource covers all of the current studio make-up methods and lab techniques, with text and art contributions from some of the leading experts in the industry. The author explains clearly and precisely the differing approaches to stage-lit, audience-attended television taping; studio-lit, no-audience taping; live television with natural outdoor lighting; live stage make-up ; and the innumerable techniques and methods of film make-up. In addition to detailing the basic, day-to-day ''paint and powder'' procedures that are the bulk of any professional make-up artist''s work. He also describes exciting new visual effects that can be achieved using puppetry, digital computing, and electronic coloration. Included in this paperback edition are: * Revised make-up charts for men and women * New special effects make-up photographs * New information on contact lenses and dental work * Updated information on film types * Revised appendices. Vincent J R Kehoe has been working in the professional make-up field since 1940. He has been in charge of make-up for more than 3000 major television, film, and stage productions, and was head of the make-up departments for CBS-TV in New York and the NBC Hallmark Hall of Fame series. His previous books include Special Make-Up Effects (Focal Press), The Technique of Film and Television Make-Up, and Photographic Make-Up for Stills and Movies, and he has written several articles on advanced make-up research for the Journal of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). As president and director of the Research Council of Make-Up Artists since 1963, Mr Kehoe designed and produced the entire Color Process line of RMCA Professional Products. He lives in Somis, CA.
