Oscillator And Pendulum With A Random Mass - Moshe (bar Ilan Univ Gitterman - Bog - World Scientific Publishing Co Pte Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Stochastic descriptions of a harmonic oscillator can be obtained by adding additive noise, or/and three types of multiplicative noise: random frequency, random damping and random mass. The first three types of noise were intensively studied in many published articles. In this book the fourth case, that of random mass, is considered in the context of the harmonic oscillator and its immediate nonlinear generalization — the pendulum. To our knowledge it is the first book fully dedicated to this problem. Two interrelated methods, the Langevin equation and the Fokker–Planck equations, as well as the Lyapunov stability method are used for the mathematical analysis. After a short introduction, the two main parts of the book describe the different properties of the random harmonic oscillator and the random pendulum with random masses. As an example, the stochastic resonance is studied, where the noise plays an unusual role, increasing the applied weak periodic signal, and also the vibration resonance in dynamic systems, where the role of noise is played by the second high-frequency periodic signal. First and second averaged moments have been calculated for a system with different types of additive and multiplicative noises, which define the stability of a system. The calculations have been extended to two multiplicative noises and to quadratic noise. This book is useful for students and scientists working in different fields of statistical physics.

Opening Up China's Markets Of Crude Oil And Petroleum Products: Theoretical Research And Reform Solutions - Pu Qian - Bog - World Scientific

This book provides a comprehensive and unique perspective on China's oil and natural gas industry and a practical roadmap to reforms. The book begins with a thorough examination of the status quo of China's oil and natural gas industry. It explores the evolution, transition, and characteristics of the oil industry of China, and unveils the problems that caused ineffectiveness of the oil and petroleum products market, namely, the dominance of monopoly enterprises, price regulation, and restriction to entry. It provides an insightful analysis on the efficiency losses and welfare losses the monopoly system brings to the society as the current system distorts income distribution, violates the principle of fairness, and stands against the market rules and the legal pillars of the Chinese constitution. This book argues that the monopoly system in the oil industry of China results in a variety of toxic influences and that reforms are needed. It then offers a roadmap to reforms in the oil and petroleum products market in an incremental fashion. The findings and proposals of the Chinese version of this book have proved to be successful, as they led to immediate shifts in the policies of the Chinese authorities. This book provides valuable insights into the urgency involved in carrying out reforms in the oil and petroleum products market in China, with concrete and up-to-date statistics, comprehensive and detailed analyses, and authoritative and authentic sources.

Economic Dynamism, Openness, And Inclusion: How Singapore Can Make The Transition From An Era Of Catch-up Growth To Life In A Mature Economy - Hian

Economic Dynamism, Openness, And Inclusion: How Singapore Can Make The Transition From An Era Of Catch-up Growth To Life In A Mature Economy - Hian

As Singapore progresses from a newly-independent nation to a more mature economy, the economic challenges it faces have evolved. In the 50 years following Singapore's independence, the country tackled economic challenges relating to a fledgling nation, that included launching onto a path of economic take-off, and managing workers' wage aspirations without rising unemployment. It met those challenges, successfully transiting from relative poverty in the 1960s to relative prosperity today. As the country enters the next phase of its economic development, having now surpassed the US standard of living as measured by real GDP per capita, it faces another set of challenges: How to transit from catch-up growth arising from technological diffusion from frontier economies, to generating indigenous innovation? How to face the problem of a shrinking local workforce? How to manage a shift in job preferences with rising wealth and educational attainments? This volume provides a theory of Singapore's economic development. With a coherent theory capable of explaining how Singapore got to where it is, the book analyses how the future might look like for the Singapore economy. With its forward-looking analysis, this book is valuable to students as it weaves macroeconomic data together with growth theory and highlights the interaction of economic forces with social influences and political institutions. It also serves as a good reference for other emerging economies that, like Singapore, want to avoid the middle-income trap, and for researchers interested in analysing the economic possibilities for current and future Singaporeans.
