The Innovation Tools Handbook, Volume 2 - H. James Harrington - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

The Innovation Tools Handbook, Volume 2 - H. James Harrington - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

In today’s fast-moving, high-technology environment, the focus on quality has given way to a focus on innovation. From presidents of the United States to presidents of Fortune 500 companies, it is clear that everyone thinks innovation is extremely important. The challenge is that few people stop to define why innovation is important—to understand what’s driving the need for more innovation. We all agree that more frequent innovation is important, even necessary. There is actually a growing body of evidence that indicates that looking outside of your company (rather than purely looking internally) and to customers’ needs, using the tools in this Handbook, will lead to more innovative ideas. Responding to customers’ needs is the key to a successful business. You can use these tools to talk to customers—satisfied ones, unsatisfied ones, potential customers, people who would never buy your product or service, and also people you have never considered as a potential customer. In addition, these tools will help you ask your competitors’ customers about what makes them happy with the current businesses and offerings in the industry, why they buy or do not buy from you, your competitors, and other industries. These tools will help you understand the steps in the customer journey they need to take, what delights and frustrates them, and what their pain points are. The three volumes of The Innovation Tools Handbook cover 76 top-rated tools and methods, from the hundreds available, that every innovator must master to be successful. Covering evolutionary and/or improvement innovative tools and methodologies, Volume 2 presents 23 tools/methodologies related to innovative evolutionary products, processes, and services, or the improvement of existing ones. For each tool, the book provides a definition, identifies the user of the tool, explains what phases of the innovation process the tool is used, describes how the tool is used, supplies examples of the outputs from the tool, identifies software that can maximize its effectiveness, and includes references and suggestions for further reading. Ideation is about developing ideas on how to seize identified opportunities. What are the possible answers to your breakthrough questions? Having a deep understanding about the customer, their needs and pain points, as well as the existing solutions (i.e. business models in the industry) will naturally lead to new ideas. How seriously you do your discovery homework using the tools in these Handbooks will determine not only how fast you create ideas, but about how likely these ideas are to succeed. Tools and methodologies covered include: 5 why questions, Affinity diagrams, attribute listing, brainwriting 6–3–5, cause-and-effect diagrams, creative problem solving model, design for tools, flowcharting, force field analysis, Kano analysis, nominal group technique, plan–do–check–act, reengineering/redesign, reverse engineering, robust design, SCAMPER, simulations, six thinking hats, social networks, solution analysis diagrams, statistical analysis, tree diagram, and value analysis. The authors believe that by making effective use of the tools and methodologies presented in this book, your organization can increase the percentage of creative/innovative ideas by five to eight times its present performance level.

Computers As Cognitive Tools - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Computers As Cognitive Tools - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Since the publication of the first edition of Computers as Cognitive Tools in 1993, rapid changes have taken place in the uses of technology for educational purposes and in the theories underlying such uses. Changes in perspectives on thinking and learning are guiding the instructional design of computer-based learning environments. Computers as Cognitive Tools, Volume II: No More Walls provides examples of state-of-the-art technology-based research in the field of education and training. These examples are theory-driven and reflect the learning paradigms that are currently in use in cognitive science. The learning theories, which consider the nature of individual learning, as well as how knowledge is constructed in social situations, include information processing, constructivism, and situativity. Contributors to this volume demonstrate some variability in their choice of guiding learning paradigms. This allows readers the opportunity to examine how such paradigms are operationalized and validated. An array of instructional and assessment approaches are described, along with new techniques for automating the design and assessment process. New considerations are offered as possibilities for examining learning in distributed situations. A multitude of subject matter areas are covered, including scientific reasoning and inquiry in biology, physics, medicine, electricity, teacher education, programming, and hypermedia composition in the social sciences and ecology. This volume reconsiders the initial "camp" analogy posited in 1993 edition of Computers as Cognitive Tools , and presents a mechanism for breaking camp to find new summits.

Computers As Cognitive Tools - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Highlighting and illustrating several important and interesting theoretical trends that have emerged in the continuing development of instructional technology, this book''s organizational framework is based on the notion of two opposing camps. One evolves out of the intelligent tutoring movement, which employs artificial-intelligence technologies in the service of student modeling and precision diagnosis, and the other emerges from a constructivist/developmental perspective that promotes exploration and social interaction, but tends to reject the methods and goals of the student modelers. While the notion of opposing camps tends to create an artificial rift between groups of researchers, it represents a conceptual distinction that is inherently more interesting and informative than the relatively meaningless divide often drawn between "intelligent" and "unintelligent" instructional systems. An evident trend is that researchers in both "camps" view their computer learning environments as "cognitive tools" that can enhance learning, performance, and understanding. Cognitive tools are objects provided by the instructional environment that allow students to incorporate new auxiliary methods or symbols into their social problem solving which otherwise would be unavailable. A final section of the book represents researchers who are assimilating and accommodating the wisdom and creativity of their neighbors from both camps, perhaps forming the look of technology for the future. When the idea of model tracing in a computer-based environment is combined with appreciation for creative mind-extension cognitive tools and for how a community of learners can facilitate learning, a camp is created where AI technologists and social constructivist learning theorists can feel equally at home.

Project Management Tools and Techniques for Success - Christine B. Tayntor - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Project Management Tools and Techniques for Success - Christine B. Tayntor - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Emphasizing that it''s much easier and more cost effective to make changes in the planning phases of a project rather than later on, Project Management Tools and Techniques for Success provides an accessible introduction to project management fundamentals. Highlighting approaches for avoiding common pitfalls, it begins with an introduction to project management that compares and contrasts the stages of poor management with those of effective management. Because change is inherent in virtually all projects, the text outlines the human effects of change and suggests ways to mitigate these effects. It addresses team dynamics, sourcing alternatives, motivating the team, managing expectations, assessing risk, and defining and prioritizing project requirements. The book translates difficult concepts into practical applications with a case study that examines the merger of two companies, along with the subsequent development of a new corporate headquarters. By adding a layer of statistical methods and tools to the front-end of a project, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) augments standard Six Sigma processes to help ensure project results meet customers'' needs and that delays caused by new requirements or rework after implementation are eliminated or reduced. The book explains how to effectively incorporate DFSS tools to reduce the possibility of failure in your next project. Clearly illustrating effective project management practices, the book includes a listing of commonly used acronyms, suggestions for additional reading, along with instructions on how to create four of the most important tools discussed in the book.

High-Level Subject Access Tools and Techniques in Internet Cataloging - Judith Ahronheim - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Is your library''s portal as efficient as it could be? High-Level Subject Access Tools and Techniques explores the potential and early development of high-level subject access. It examines Web tools and traditionally maintained library structures that facilitate the automated relation of resources to high-level subject categories based on the descriptive metadata that already exists in traditional library records. It includes a research study of high-level subject browse structures, as well as hands-on reports of actual projects and development activities and an examination of the environment in which demand for high-level subject access arises. From the editor: ?As the World Wide Web and graphic user interfaces developed in the 90s, libraries began to build gateways for their online resources. These gateways allowed library users to employ the browse, point, and click approach to resource discovery that they had come to expect from online tools. Most of these interfaces amounted to little more than hand-constructed lists of links. Today, many libraries offer access to users through a set list of broad topics, sometimes called a high-level browse display. Methods for populating these subject categories remain crude and their maintenance requires considerable resources. As a result, libraries have begun to look at ways of applying traditional techniques associated with cataloging to these new interfaces. Several goals are involved in these developments. Many hope to reuse data from library catalogs and thus limit maintenance burdens. Others seek to apply a more standard set of tools and principles to the construction of portals to allow greater cooperation among institutions that want to interoperate with each other.? This pathbreaking book examines vital issues in high-level subject access, including: - subject trees and their relationship to the structure inherent in Dewey Classification - emerging patterns in the development of browsing services, including a hierarchy of subjects that is not based in classification, a map that relates data from catalog records to the subject hierarchy, and tools for extracting data from a catalog and storing it in a separate database to produce a more flexible display - task-based (as opposed to materials-based) subject lists - the social issues that are associated with choosing categories?based on the nature and activity of an institution''s library users - the political issues involved in selecting disciplines or topics for a browsing service And presents fascinating case studies of: - - Columbia University''s efforts to build an automatically generated browsable display based on Library of Congress Classification as it occurs in catalog records - the High-Level Thesaurus Project (HILT), in which a group of libraries, archives, and museums attempted to find a common method for high-level subject access via portal
