David Liebman and Richard Beirach visited Denmark three consecutive years 1985, 1986 and 1987. In 1985 as a duo where they did a studio recording playing jazz standards like Naima, Lover Man, Oleo, Round Midnight, India, On Green Dolphin Street and Some Other Time.In 1986 they have added Ron McClure (b) and Billy Hart (dr). Again they did a studio recording playing compositions by David Liebman and Richard Beirach.Finally in 1987 they did a live recording at Copenhagen's famous Jazz Club "The Montmartre" with the same group as 1986 and this time they recorded compositions by all four musicians. The Viking Jazzband was formed in 1956 by Danish trombonist Arne "Papa Bue” Jensen . The band became associated with the Dixieland Jazz revival, at a time when many musicians were working in the new Bebop style. Bjarne Liller started off as the band’s Banjo player and vocalist, and went on to enjoy a successful solo career. They reunited to produce the 1977 LP, Jazz Party , which contains 28 classic Jazz songs as well as some unique Danish melodies. With 33 tracks in total, this CD comes with a nostalgic Dixieland feel, but an unmistakeable Viking edge.

There are a total of twenty-six stunning tunes on this CD which span the years 1940-1949, with some performed live and the remainder in the studio including one of Holiday?s signature tunes I Cover the Waterfront. Recorded over eleven different sessions, there are many magic moments here, including her last official recordings with tenor saxophonist Lester Young and Pianist Teddy Wilson. As always Holiday sings wonderfully throughout- for instance, her fabulous bluesy renditions of St. Louis Blues and Loveless Love are full of the passion and sentiment that characterised her timeless voice.

The material was recorded from 1953 to 1955 and is comprised of three radio broadcasts and three television shows in New York, Portland and Hollywood. The radio tunes were recorded in the NBC studio, at a jazz club and in a concert hall. The television tunes are from the Spike Jones Show and the Tonight Show. Art Tatum is featured in both a solo and trio context, plus one tune where he's accompanied on piano by Steve Allen. All the music reveals Tatum's total command of the keyboard and also his unequalled talent for improvisation and high-speed stride playing. Art Tatum's sense of time is impeccable - as he says himself 'I have a rhythm section in my left hand'

The 14 tunes (73 min.) on this CD were recorded on the 20th & 22nd of November, 1950, in Hälsingborg and Malmö, Sweden, and besides some standard melodies, the CD includes several Parker original be-bop classics. The music here represents all that was recorded with Charlie Parker on this visit to Sweden, which was his second ? and last ? trip to Europe. In spite of the less-than-perfect sound quality, these private recordings catch Charlie Parker ? the greatest modern jazz musician of all time ? at the peak of his powers: he was obviously in a good mood, playing clear, singing lines and in total control of the saxophone. The CD is comprised of two concerts, plus a jam session, and all the time Parker is accompanied by basically the same competent Swedish rhythm section, led by the famous trumpeter Rolf Ericson. Neither the Swedish fans nor the musicians who played with Parker during his one-week visit were ever the same afterwards, and you won?t be, either, after hearing this CD.
