Citation Management Tools - Nancy R. Glassman - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

With the rise of scholarly communication, proper citation and attribution practices have become more important than ever. Citation management software is an essential tool for meeting this challenge. Look no further than the proliferation of free- and fee-based packages on the market; new programs and updated versions of existing software offering innovative features seem to pop up all the time. Busy students and researchers do not have the time (or energy) to test-drive all the available options in order to make an informed decision regarding the selection of the right tool to manage their references. After finding the right tool, they need someone to help them use it properly. Librarians must be able to help their patrons navigate the many alternatives and effectively use the special features of the software they ultimately select.Citation Management Tools: A Practical Guide for Librarians was written to help librarians, teachers, and writers demystify the complex world of citation management software. Topics include:·An overview of citation management software, including what it can and cannot do·Advice on selecting the right program for the right researcher and the right project·A comparison of citation managers on the market·Leveraging citation managers to provide library services·Citation management as a collaboration and networking tool·Ways to use citation managers to facilitate proper citation practices and avoiding plagiarism·Citation managers to tame the unruly folders on your desktop·Mobile citation management·Future trendsThis book focuses on the four citation managers commonly used in libraries (EndNote, Mendeley, RefWorks, and Zotero), but other noteworthy tools are also described. Citation Management Tools: A Practical Guide for Librarians provides librarians with the essential skills and information required to support the use of citation managers at their libraries and explore creative ways to use these tools.

Garden State Gangland - Scott M. Deitche - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

The Mafia in the United States might be a shadow of its former self, but in the New York/New Jersey metro area, there are still wiseguys and wannabes working scams, extorting businesses, running gambling, selling drugs, and branching out into white collar crimes. And they are continuing a tradition that’s over 100 years old. Some of the most powerful mobsters on a national level were from New Jersey, and they spread their tentacles down to Florida, across the Atlantic, and out to California. And many of the stories have never been told. Deitche weaves his narrative through significant, as well as some lesser-known, mob figures who were vital components in the underworld machine. New Jersey’s organized crime history has been one of the most colorful in the country, serving as the home of some of the most powerful, as well as below-the-radar, mobsters in the Country. And though overshadowed by the emphasis on New York City, the mob and New Jersey have, over the years, become synonymous, in both pop culture and in law enforcement. But for all the press that has been dedicated to the mob and New Jersey, for all the law enforcement activity against the mob, and for all the pop culture references, there has never truly been an examination of the rise of the mob in New Jersey from a historical perspective. Until now. In Garden State Gangland, Scott M. Deitche sets the historical record straight by providing the first overall history of the mob in New Jersey, from the early turn of the century Black Hand gangs to the present, and looks at how influential they were was, not only to goings-on the Garden State but across the New York metro region and the country as a whole.

Eden's Garden - Richard J. Coleman - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

Life and Death in the Garden - Kathryn Meyer - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

Life and Death in the Garden - Kathryn Meyer - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

This compelling book provides a rare glimpse into the heart of wartime China. Kathryn Meyer draws us into the perilous world of the Garden of Grand Vision, a ramshackle structure where a floating population of thousands found shelter from the freezing Siberian winter. They had come to the northern city of Harbin to find opportunity or to escape the turmoil of China in civil war. Instead they found despair. As the author vividly describes, corpses littered the halls waiting for the daily offal truck to cart the bodies away, vermin infested the walls, and relief came in the form of addiction. Yet the Garden also supported a vibrant informal economy. Rag pickers and thieves recycled everything from rat pelts to cigarette butts. Prostitutes entertained clients in the building’s halls and back alleys. These people lived at the very bottom of Chinese society, yet rumors that Chinese spies hid among the residents concerned the Japanese authorities. For this population lived in Manchukuo, the first Japanese conquest in what became the Second World War. Thus, three Japanese police officers were dispatched into the underworld of occupied China to investigate crime and vice in the Harbin slums while their military leaders dragged Japan deeper into the Pacific War. While following these policemen, the reader discovers a remarkable and unexpected view of World War II in East Asia. Instead of recounting battles and military strategy, this book explores the margins of a violent and entrepreneurial society, the struggles of an occupying police force to maintain order, and the underbelly of Japanese espionage. Drawing on the author’s years of rediscovering the historical trail in Manchuria and research based on top-secret Japanese military documents and Chinese memoirs, this book offers a unique and powerful social and cultural history of a forgotten world.
