Magnolia George Henry Kern. Scented Magnolia Buy Online UK

Magnolia George Henry KernThis compact and slow growing Magnolia is the perfect choice for small gardens or town gardens. A hardy variety of Magnolia, this hybrid is named after the American botanist that created it from Magnolia Stellata x Magnolia Lilliflora. This is a deciduous shrub or small tree, with shiny green leaves and stunningly beautiful conical pink blooms that have a heavenly scent with a long flowering period. All of these factors contribute to making George Henry Kern a highly popular variety of Magnolia. This RHS Award of Garden Merit magnolia can be grown as a shrub or a tree. It is a beautiful choice for gardens large or small! Developed in the United States in the mid-twentieth century from trees native to Japan, Magnolia George Henry Kern blooms longer than almost any other magnolia. The pale pink blooms appear in March and April, and a few more may appear in July. The leaves emerge after the flowers have started blooming, and throughout the summer stay an attractive green before turning a coppery bronze in autumn. Hardy throughout the UK, Magnolia George Henry Kern will grow to a mature height of 2.5-4 metres and spread of 1.5-2.5 metres in 10 to 20 years. Little pruning is required to maintain the natural rounded shape, but if necessary, it should be done immediately after flowering has finished in late spring or early summer.Plant Magnolia George Henry Kern in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered spot with a south or west facing aspect. Soil should be acid to neutral moist but well-drained clay, sand or loam. Once established this shrub does not like to be moved, so be sure that you choose the right spot the first time! Tolerant of pollution, it is an excellent choice for small city gardens. The compact size and extended flowering period of Magnolia George Henry Kern make it a good candidate for a rooftop terrace or courtyard, where it can be pruned to stay within bounds, while providing a long season of interest, first with its scented blooms and then with its attractive foliage. Towards the back of a mixed border, it makes a good companion for spring-flowering bulbs. It also works well planted as part of an informal hedge, or in a mass planting on a slope.Magnolia George Henry Kern has many excellent qualities to recommend it - its fragrant blooms, attractive green foliage, and compact size mean that it can find a place almost anywhere! Growing Tip: Plant near a path or doorway to make the most of it's fragrance. View our entire range of Magnolias for sale online.

Hydrangea Preziosa - Hydrangea Serrata Preziosa - Buy Online

Hydrangea Preziosa (full botanical name Hydrangea Serrata Preziosa) is a small mophead hydrangea with clusters of pink flowers. It’s perfect for container planting or a mixed border and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Hydrangea Serrata Preziosa originated from Japan and Korea. It’s a deciduous hydrangea that loses all of its leaves in winter and comes back bigger and better the following spring. Foliage reappears in spring as young bronze leaves that turn deep green before finally maturing into a fiery deep red in the autumn. When the foliage finally falls with the frosts it reveals purple-red stems. Clusters of pretty rose pink mophead flowers appear during early summer eventually maturing into reddish-purple blooms in early autumn. If it’s grown on very acidic soil the flowers may appear in hues of pink to blue and light purples. Height And Spread of Hydrangea PreziosaHydrangea Serrata Preziosa is a dwarf shrub that reaches a maximum height and spread of 1.5 metres over ten years. How Hardy Is Hydrangea PreziosaThis is a hardy shrub that can withstand sub-zero UK winters if its roots are well-drained. It prefers moist soil, but will withstand drought however it’s flowers will appear smaller and the foliage less vigorous if it dries out.  How To Use Hydrangea PreziosaHydrangea Preziosa is perfect for lovers of romantic flowers and bushy foliage. It suits a sunny to partially shady mixed border or a woodland garden and will grow in a container provided it’s well fed and watered. It looks good with other hydrangeas and rhododendrons in striking colours.  The mophead flowers are popular with flower arrangers and they  dry effectively to create long-lasting displays. How To Care For Hydrangea PreziosaHydrangeas like full sun and partially shady spots that are sheltered and free from frost pockets.  Acidic to neutral soils are best for hydrangeas and they grow well in ericaceous compost. They enjoy consistently moist soil and perform best when watered frequently. A little pruning will ensure Hydrangea Preziosa looks its best, so remove flower heads in spring once the risk of frost has passed cutting back to a pair of new shoots and remove crossed of damaged areas. If you want to restrict the growth of your hydrangea cut back one-third of its shoots to the base.  Mulch each year with well-rotted manure for the best flower displays.

Azalea Laura Morland Evergreen Azaleas Buy Online London UK

Azalea Laura Morland Evergreen Azaleas Buy Online London UK

Azalea Laura Morland is a compact evergreen variety of azalea with pale pink flowers displayed from April through to June. This flowering shrub prefers a sunny or part sunny sheltered positon. It will grow to 60 cm plus centimetres when mature and can be clipped into mounds after flowering to create a real Japanese style 'bonsai' effect. The pale pink flowers emerge in clusters from April and persist right through June to create an eye-catching spring/early summer display. The blooms measure 6 centimetres in width.Azalea Laura Morland belongs to the family of Robin Hill Azaleas. In 1937, Robert Gartrell of New Jersey embarked on a breeding program that was aimed at creating cultivars of the Satsuki Azaleas with a hardier profile. Azalea Laura Morland features superb cold-hardiness and brighter flower colourations.Like most azaleas, the Laura Morland grows best in acidic soil with a high organic content. The soil should be evenly moist. After planting, spread a layer of mulch across the soil’s surface to help keep the azalea’s roots cool and damp. The Laura Morland Azalea also grows well in containers and makes a pristine patio plant. Viburnum Opulus Roseum Snowball Tree for Sale Online UK IRL

Viburnum Opulus Roseum Snowball Tree for Sale Online UK IRL

Viburnum opulus Roseum is more commonly called the Snowball Tree, and with good reason, as its outstanding characteristic is the large, white, fluffy blooms that cover this large shrub every spring. It has the RHS Award of Garden Merit because of its desirability for UK gardens. The snowball tree was known in the 16th century as Sambucus Rose, already prized by gardeners for its beautiful blooms. Starting in early May, the snowball tree is covered in large lime-green flower clusters 6 cm across. They change to a creamy green, then to pure white, and finally turn a light pink before they fade in June. The blossoms also make excellent cut flowers, which will last up to 2 weeks once cut. As the Viburnum Opulus Roseum cultivar’s flowers are sterile, there are no fruits to follow. The maple-shaped leaves, a fresh green colour through the spring and summer, turn purple in the autumn, adding late-season interest. Hardy to H6, in otherwords throughout all of the UK, Viburnum Opulus Roseum grows to a mature height and spread of 2.5 – 4 metres over a period of 5 – 10 years. Space them 4 metres apart if you are planting more than one. Once established, you can prune it after flowering in the early summer, either by removing spent flowers or by cutting out weaker stems to the base.  Plant your snowball tree in full sun or part shade, in well-drained sand, loam, chalk or clay soil. It will tolerate acid, neutral, or alkaline soil. It can thrive in a sheltered or exposed location. Viburnum opulus Roseum is a spectacular garden accent when in bloom in the spring, so make the most of it!  A hedge of flowering snowball trees will be a highlight of the garden for the duration of the blooms. Later in the autumn, the purple leaves will again contribute visual interest, and in between the leafy hedge will be an excellent privacy screen for your garden. You can also plant one Viburnum opulus Roseum as a specimen plant in the middle of your lawn, where it will be the focus of attention. As well, one or more would make an effective foundation planting against a high wall, where they would combine with spring-flowering bulbs and perennials to create a lovely picture. The snowball tree has been a favoured garden shrub for centuries, because of the stunning beauty of its spring blooms. Bring this beauty home to your own garden with one or more of our Viburnum opulus Roseum plants.

Corylus Avellana Common Hazel Tree or Hedge for Sale Online

Corylus Avellana Common Hazel Tree or Hedge for Sale Online

Corylus Avellana, also known as Common Hazel, is a long-cultivated native variety which has great value to UK gardeners as a specimen tree or as a bushy hedging shrub. Its versatility makes it suitable for a variety of landscape plans. Hazels are native to the UK and across Europe, and have been cultivated since ancient times for their nuts and wood. Corylus avellana is the upright variety of hazel – as opposed to Corylus Avellana Contorta which is the twisted variety.Corylus Avellana blooms very early in the season, sometimes before the new year, and is an extremely important early pollen source for bees. Both male and female flowers appear on the same tree, but it is the yellow male catkins that are prominent, hanging in clusters. The female flowers are followed by oval fruits which mature into nuts by autumn. It is necessary to plant more than one hazel for cross-pollination for nut production. The green, hairy round to oval leaves emerge early, turning yellow in the autumn. Hardy throughout the UK and Europe, Corylus Avellana will grow to a height and spread of 4-8 metres over a period of 10 to 20 years. While a hazel plant can grow into a tree with a single stem, it is usually cut down by wildlife eating the tender stems, and develops into a bush with many branches. You can mimic that growth habit with annual pruning to create a dense, bushy hedging screen. Corylus Avellana is also often coppiced, and the wood used for many purposes, including firewood, pea sticks and bean poles. An unpruned hazel tree will live for 80 years, while a coppiced hazel can last for hundreds!Plant hazel in moist but well-drained sand, loam, or chalk soil, preferably alkaline or neutral, in any exposed or sheltered situation in sun or part shade. It is not suited to coastal plantings. Corylus Avellana is a natural choice for a wildlife or woodland garden, or in a mixed hedgerow. Its flexible stems make it a great candidate for training into a living fence.  It also can be planted as a specimen tree in a small city garden, or as a small clump of bushes in an informal garden.  The long history of the cultivation of the hazel in the UK continues into today. This versatile, beautiful and useful plant can find a place in a city garden or the country landscape!
