Awake, my soul

This short, approachable piece by Owain Park sets Psalm 57 and is scored for four part choir unaccompanied. The score includes a piano reduction for rehearsal purposes. Awake, my soul was given its first performance on Thursday17th October 2019 by Wells Cathedral Choir, conducted by Jeremy Cole, in the presence of the composer during new music wells 79-19. The work was commissioned by Cathedral Commissions of Wells Cathedral(cathedralcommissions.co.uk), with the generous support of patrons and commissioners. It is dedicated to Iain Ball MBE, Chairman of the Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust 2004-2015.

Outcry is a protest against the maltreatment of the animal kingdom by man, expressed through settings of poems by William Blake (1757-1827), Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) and John Clare (1797-1864). It was commissioned by the Coventry Philharmonic Society, with Arts Council funds, and first performed on May l0th, 1969, with Meriel Dickinson as soloist with the composer conducting. In the midst of thy temple

This six-minute anthem by Matthew Martin was commissioned by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster for a service held on 15th October 2019 to mark the 750th anniversary of the dedication of the Abbey Church of Henry III and firstperformed by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by James O’Donnell with Peter Holder (organ). The piece sets Latin and English text the Angularis fundamentum (Christ is the sure foundation) (Anon 7th century), translatedby. John Mason Neale (1818 1866) / Joseph Armitage Robinson (1858 1933), Dean of Westminster 1902 11. The work is scored for mixed choir with divisi, and the organ part is typical of Martin’s inimitable style.
