Globalization Thrust - Ph.d. Rajagopal - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Globalisation can be described as the combined influences of trade liberalisation, market integration, international finance and investment, technological change, the increasing distribution of production across national boundaries and the emergence of new structures of global governance. The global market place equipped with the application of global communications has become the focus of the global business arena that makes the world markets remain open and involved in the fair competitive practices. Supporters of globalisation concepts also argue that allowing free trade and capital movement would also favour workers to move from one country to another, partly to find better employment opportunities. New growth-trade theories have emphasised the contribution of international trade to economic growth through its effect on capital accumulation. Free trade leaders to specialisation, contributes to the total factor productivity and offers comparative advantages for the other countries. However, free trade generates neck-to-neck competition among countries for economic sustainability and to equip essentially for competing against the best trade in the world. This book delineates economic and political factors along with the technological perspectives thereof towards the export growth and competitiveness among developing countries and analyses trade competitiveness in view of the economic reforms and trade liberalisation.

On the Genealogy of Modernity - Nythamar Fernandes De Oliveira - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

On the Genealogy of Modernity - Nythamar Fernandes De Oliveira - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

This book focuses on the genealogy of modernity as it has been articulated by the original contributions of Kant, Nietzsche, and Foucault, in their respective conceptions of truth, power, and ethics. The author seeks to show that in order to articulate a philosophical discourse on modernity one must not only refer to cultural, historical events associated with modern conceptions of truth, power, and ethics, but also undertake an analysis of how these different axes concur to determine what we call "modernity." Such is in effect the genealogical thrust of this study, which is explicitly based upon Foucault''s readings of Kant and Nietzsche, so as to show that critique and genealogy constitute a highly original contribution of Foucault''s social philosophy to the study of modernity. The "genealogy of modernity" is shown to constitute the major thesis of a Foucauldian "philosophical discourse of modernity" which, contrary to Habermas''s criticisms, does not evade questions of truth, normativity, and value, but rather contradict them. The genealogy of modernity is itself made possible by the articulation of the three axes of truth, power, and ethics that determine the historical a priori of our modern ethos as the condition of who we are, that is, the formation of modern subjectivity with its regimes of veridiction and jurisdiction, modes of subjectivation and practices of freedom.

Flight Control of Unmanned Rotorcrafts for Enhanced Situational Awareness - Igor Astrov - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Flight Control of Unmanned Rotorcrafts for Enhanced Situational Awareness - Igor Astrov - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

The need for highly reliable and stable manoeuvres for unmanned rotorcrafts (URs) class of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs) has increased morbidly for critical situations in real-time search-and-rescue operations for fast situational awareness (SA). A rotorcraft is a heavier-than-air flying machine that obtains its lift from rotors. SA is simply being aware of what is going on around you. This book provides basic approaches for the modelling and simulation of control systems on the basis of equations of motion for various types of models of rotorcrafts (miniature helicopter, intermediate helicopter, coaxial rotor/ducted fan mini-UAV, trirotor mini-UAV, vectored thrust mini-UAV, quadrotor mini-UAV, X4-flyer mini-UAV, eight-rotor mini-UAV) with emphasis on the modeling and simulation of realistic dynamics for fast SA. The effectiveness of the proposed research technique has been verified in field of flight simulation tests for chosen control models of the URs using software package Simulink. From the simulation results it can be seen that the UR models demonstrated an advantage in achieving good maneuverability in controlled flight during missions and good performance for fast stabilisation of engines during manoeuvres, consequently, fast SA with economy in energy of batteries can be asserted during missions, and the duration of missions can be longer. The principal audiences for this book are faculty members, practitioners, researchers, and graduate and postgraduate students.

Tribology Research Trends - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Tribology Research Trends - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Tribology is the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion. It includes the study and application of the principles of friction, lubrication and wear. The study of tribology is commonly applied in bearing design but extends into almost all other aspects of modern technology, even to such unlikely areas as hair conditioners and cosmetics such as lipstick, powders and lip-gloss. Any product where one material slides or rubs over another is affected by complex tribological interactions, whether lubricated like hip implants and other artificial prosthesis or unlubricated as in high temperature sliding wear in which conventional lubricants can not be used but in which the formation of compacted oxide layer glazes have been observed to protect against wear. The wateriness of oil during foot wiping operations may be observed by the Mavis-Bootlace test. Outcomes are typically modelled in the 4-Litre-Poulner hypothesis. Tribology plays an important role in manufacturing. In metal-forming operations, friction increases tool wear and the power required to work a piece. This results in increased costs due to more frequent tool replacement, loss of tolerance as tool dimensions shift, and greater forces are required to shape a piece. A layer of lubricant which eliminates surface contact virtually eliminates tool wear and decreases needed power by one third. This book presents the latest research in the field from around the globe.

Prescription Drugs - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Prescription Drugs - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

By the nature of its use, the intrathecal baclofen pump is frequently implanted in children and adults with either an advanced spinal, pelvic or hip deformity who suffer from muscle spasticity. These deformities often lead to additional surgical procedures either simultaneously or after the implantation of the baclofen pump and intrathecal catheterisation. In the first chapter, several different scenarios are described and surgical manoeuvres for mitigating complications and improving outcomes in patient populations are examined. The second chapter addresses all issues dealing with the prescription of baclofen, including the questions of doses and ways to deal with adverse effects. The conclusion is that baclofen is currently revolutionising the therapeutic approach to AUD, with a prescription mainly based on the therapeutic alliance, where the patient gets personally involved, with the support of the physician, in the monitoring of the treatment. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), prescription drugs such as stimulants, opioids, and depressants are the most commonly misused classes of prescription drugs (NIDA, 2016). The authors of the third chapter examine NMUPD (i.e., depressants, opioids, and stimulants) among college students based on gender, living arrangements, and involvement in extracurricular activities. Specifically, if living arrangements and extracurricular activities influence the use of depressants, opioids, and stimulants while in college. The fourth chapter examines the relationship between nonmedical prescription drug (NMPD) use, perceived risk, ease of access, and peer disapproval of NMPDs based on school sports participation among 7th-12th grade male and female students. The final chapter of this book reviews the clinical evidence of the antimanic and the long-term mood stabilising effect of memantine and suggests the possible biological effects.

Anthropometry - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Anthropometry - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

In this book, the science of anthropometry, which deals with measurements of human size, shape and proportion, is examined in the context of obesity and overweight, common problems in developed countries and developing countries alike. An estimated 39% of the world''s adult population were overweight and 13% were obese over the past 3 decades, and these problems can cause diseases like type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and several cancers. While body mass index (BMI) is commonly used as a health risk phenotype, it has several limitations because BMI does not accurately depict different components of body composition and is therefore unable to predict the prognostic effect of individual tissues. Other anthropometric measurements, such as waist circumference (WC), waist to hip ratio (WHR), and waist to height ratio (WHtR) each have their advantages and disadvantages. As such, in Chapter 1, different novel anthropometric parameters and cardiovascular risk factors among obesity adults are compared and evaluated. Chapter 2 describes a study of children aged 0-12 years conducted in the Middle Senegal River Valley (MISOES) in 1957-1958. This study was based on representative samples of children in urban and rural areas and included measurements of weight, height, arm circumference, and more. These measurements were compared with American standards and showed an overwhelming anthropometric deficit compared with standards. This study is examined in the context of other studies conducted in the region as well as in connection with economic development in the valley. Chapter 3 describes the various methods of assessing body fat and their application for obese individuals to predict the risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), and Chapter 4 reviews the effect of different modalities of physical exercise on anthropometric measurements and body composition in different populations of older adults.

Imperial Maladies - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Imperial Maladies - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

The thrust-area of this book is the connection between imperial anxieties and tropical health situations along with intriguing psychological questions involving race, politics, gender, history and colonial modernity. For a long time, the focus has largely been Eurocentric: the effects of European medicine and healthcare policies introduced to the sub-continental colonies have been viewed in relation to the strategies of governing the colonial subjects. David Arnolds Colonising the Body considers the States role in introducing European medicine as instrumental to the British imperial project in India. In literary representations, especially in the Late Victorian and early twentieth century fiction and memoirs by Rudyard Kipling, Philip Meadows Taylor, Flora Annie Steel and George Orwell, we have several pictures of a palliative, medically-oriented imperialism. Waltraud Ernsts Mad Tales of the Raj (1998) and Christiane Hartnacks Psychoanalysis in Colonial India (2001) offer thoughtfully documented analyses of the early developments of psychology and psychotherapy in colonial India. Indian medical historians like Poonam Bala and Projit Mukharji question the tendency of looking at western medicine only in terms of monopoly and power. However, the question of Indianness in psychoanalytic philosophy, trying to understand how the East hopes to locate Western psychoanalysis in a post-therapeutic journey, or how the anti-Oedipal or an-Oedipal manifests itself in Indian cultures of psychoanalysis, still remains an area demanding further attention. The present volume seeks to understand such problems in colonial, medical and psychoanalytic discourses, from perspectives that are broadly interdisciplinary yet chiefly based on literary, historical and cultural studies. Containing fourteen chapters, this book hopes to succeed in exploring the medical and fictional literatures of colonial and postcolonial India, both in English and other Indian languages. The book is divided into such sub-themes as: Psychoanalysis , psychopathology and the aesthetics of malady; Literature, medicine and healthcare in colonial India; Historical Studies; Studies in popular fiction: sensational psychiatry; Medicine, gender and colonial modernity.

James Madison - Barbara Bennett Peterson - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

James Madison - Barbara Bennett Peterson - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

This book follows the life of James Madison, our 4th president, who at the tender age of twenty-five was thrust into significant politics as an elected member of the Virginia House of Burgesses. Even in his first venture into statesmanship. Madison took notes on constitutional deliberations, a practice that he would continue in the Federal Convention that proposed the United States Constitution and throughout much of his legislative career whether in Philadelphia, New York City, or Williamsburg, Virginia. Just as most of our knowledge of the framing of the U.S. Constitution is provided by Madison''s painstaking notes of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, much of our knowledge of George Mason''s many contributions to the Virginia Constitution of 1776 are also known through Madison''s efforts. His major personal contribution to that seminal state constitution is a brief but key phrase in the Virginia Declaration of Rights that would in many respects become a pattern for the Bill of Rights that Madison was later largely responsible for addition to the United States Constitution. His addition of a simple clause converted Mason''s proposed language from religious toleration, where an official church would permit citizens to attend other churches, to religious freedom with its clear implication that it was one of the Rights of Man that were so important to that revolutionary generation. Throughout his career he remained committed to religious freedom and he is still considered one of its greatest contributors. During the brief time between his terms in Congress he would prevail in battles against the re-establishment of the Episcopal Church in Virginia and would win legislative approval for the Statute for Religious Freedom that Jefferson wrote and in which he took enormous pride, but which required the legislative management of James Madison to become law. Madison is best and justifiably known as "Father of the Constitution" because of his heroic role in bringing together the Federal Convention in 1787, influencing its outcomes through the Virginia Plan, maintaining records of the debates, winning its ratification in the largest state and influencing several other states.

The Fundamentals of Brick Manufacturing - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

The Fundamentals of Brick Manufacturing - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Over the recent years, the brick industry of the state has been facing competition from several other building materials. These include cement and cement blocks. In most developing countries, brick makers make only a unique type and color of brick, leaving the user very little choice. As a result, substitute products enter the market which have the same function but are cheaper, more regular and pleasing in look. These substitutes satisfy the consumers more than bricks do. Although in general, the output of bricks is quite elastic, in the sense that increased construction activities are closely followed by an increase in brick production, the brick industry does have certain challenges posed by competition from substitutes. It is evident from the fore going discussion that bricks face stiff competition from alternative building materials. Therefore, in order to remain competitive, the clay brick industry will have to contain cost, increase module size, reduce mortar usage and improve ease of layering in order to retain and increase market share in the building and construction industry. Bricks in general are preferred, even if they are of low quality, because of their inherent and perceived characteristics of strength and moisture resistance. The industry will therefore have to emphasize if positive characteristics and options in order to compete with the alternative building materials which have a similar function. The brick industry, being ancillary to the construction industry, is intimately connected with the growth of the latter. Any attempts for market assessment should therefore focus on estimation of demand, supply and price position in the construction industry. There is little doubt that in the foreseeable future there will be an increasing demand for housing, particularly in cities and urban areas. To provide shelter for all, all construction sectors, including traditional sectors should be involved in providing affordable housing for the urban as well as the rural poor people. If these poorer sections of the population are to be assisted to build durable as well as affordable housing, the focus of attention will have to be placed on the provision of suitable and affordable building materials. Unfortunately it appears that in developing countries, the major thrust in the building materials industry has been placed on the more modern building materials. However, in most countries there is a need for cheap and good quality local building materials such as bricks, wood, bamboo etc. These are the materials most people of these countries can afford. If locally produced materials using local resources are utilized, which are often renewable, the cost will be low and income will be generated at the local level. Therefore, the development of the local building materials industry must receive close attention and utmost care. The objective of the local building materials industries should be not only to make available the materials traditionally used by the low income sections of the community but also to modify production processes and construction techniques to enable construction of houses which are structurally more durable and functionally more adequate. However, this books deals with brick manufacturing and its history details to provide updated information to the readers. Therefore, throughout the book, different authors present very interesting works related to the brick manufacturing in home and abroad. There is no doubt buyers will benefit by getting an excellent piece of this book.
