The opening study in Total Quality Management (TQM): Concepts, Implementation and Applications investigates the quality of administrative services and student satisfaction-an important dimension of Total Quality Management-provided in higher education institutions. A questionnaire survey, developed using the well-known service quality model SERVQUAL, was used to explore its five dimensions, namely: reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy, and responsiveness. Following this, the authors empirically examine the relationship between Total Quality Management-SMEs' performance and organizational culture under a moderation model in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The research utilizes partial least squares to examine the moderating effect of organizational culture on the association between Total Quality Management and SMEs' performance. Lastly, the authors develop a model and empirically test it to assess the impact of Total Quality Management on incremental and radical innovation and customer satisfaction, finding that Total Quality Management is positively linked to incremental and radical innovation, whereas no association was found for radical innovation and customer satisfaction.

Florida has the largest proportion of elderly in the nation- 2.8 million persons are over age 65, representing 17.6% of its total population. The dramatic rise in the number of persons age 65 and over in Florida over the next 20 years-estimated to total 26.3% of total population-will further stretch the already limited resources of the state. Aware of the pressing demand for long-term care services well into the 21 * century, policymakers in Florida have begun seriously to review options for improving financing and delivery of long-term care for the frail elderly and persons with disabilities. Federal and state Medicaid spending in Florida was $2.6 billion in FY2001, and 30.5% of Medicaid spending was for long-term care. In FY2001, 75.3% of total Medicaid spending was for institutional care. Slightly less than 25% of Medicaid spending was channeled towards home and community-based services. Although institutional care dominated Medicaid spending, there has been slow but steady expansion of home and community-based services funding, both through the use of Medicaid''s waiver programs as well as significant support through state sources. Among the major issues facing long-term care in Florida are: the fragmentation of long-term care services among state and local agencies, an imbalance in financing that favors institutional care rather than home and community based care, shortage of health care workers and well-trained staff throughout the long-term care , and disparities in availability of services across the state.

In Solanaceae: Cultivation, Nutrition and Health, the authors first set out to demonstrate how utilization of soil amendments in agricultural systems is an inexpensive means for limited-resource farmers looking for improvements in crop yield and quality to satisfy consumer needs of healthy food. A separate study considers the variety of biological activities, together with the nutritional composition and low cytotoxicity, of the mature fruits of S. lycocarpum in order to demonstrate that they represent an important food source with chemopreventive and therapeutic properties. Next, the total phenolic and flavonoid content, antioxidant, antibacterial, and allelopathic activities of methanol extract and fractions from ripe fruits of S. lycocarpum were studied to provide knowledge on the total phenolic and total flavonoid content in the methanol extract and fractions, as well as the antioxidant, antibacterial, and allelopathic activities. Afterwards, the oils, fatty acids, and methyl esters from S. lycocarpum fruits were evaluated for their antioxidant potential and allelopathic activity. The allelopathic effect against the seedlings of Lactuca sativa and Allium cepa showed promising results, with predominant effects of growth inhibition of hypocotyls and radicles in the lower concentration tested. In the concluding study, the effects of the ethanol extract and hydroethanol fraction of S. lycocarpum leaves on the growth of the Ehrlich experimental tumor were evaluated using three experimental groups.

The overall number of inmates in the Bureau of Prisons'' (BOP) three main types of segregated housing units, Special Housing Units (SHU), Special Management Units (SMU), and Administrative Maximum (ADX), increased at a faster rate than the general inmate population. Inmates may be placed in SHUs for administrative reasons, such as pending transfer to another prison, and for disciplinary reasons, such as violating prison rules; SMUs, a four-phased program in which inmates can progress from more to less restrictive conditions; or ADX, for inmates that require the highest level of security. From fiscal year 2008 to February 2013, the total inmate population in segregated housing units increased approximately 17 percent, from 10,659 to 12,460 inmates. By comparison, the total inmate population in BOP facilities increased by about 6 percent during this period. This book examines the trends in the BOP''s segregated housing population; the extent to which the BOP centrally monitors how prisons apply segregated housing policies; and the impact segregated housing has on institutionalised safety and inmates.

The federal Pell Grant program is the single largest source of federal grant aid supporting post-secondary education students. The program provided over $33.5 billion to approximately 9.7 million undergraduate students in FY2011. For FY2012, the total maximum Pell Grant was funded at $5,550. The program is funded primarily through annual discretionary appropriations, although in recent years mandatory appropriations have played a smaller yet increasing role in the program. The statutory authority for the Pell Grant program was most recently reauthorised by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. Pell Grants are need-based aid that is intended to be the foundation for all federal student aid awarded to undergraduates. There is no absolute income threshold that determines who is eligible or ineligible for Pell Grants. Nevertheless, Pell Grant recipients are primarily low-income. In FY2010, an estimated 74% of all Pell Grant recipients had a total family income at or below $30,000. This book reviews how the program works and provides an analysis of recent program costs and funding, recipients (numbers and characteristics), and the role the program plays in the distribution of federal student aid. The federal government incurs a budget deficit (also known as a net deficit) when its total outgoing payments (outlays) exceed the total money it collects (revenues). If instead federal revenues are greater than outlays, then the federal government generates a surplus. Deficits are measured over the course of a defined period of time -- in the case of the federal government, a fiscal year. Over time, persistent budget deficits can hamper economic growth. Federal debt, either publicly held or intragovernmental, is funded through private capital. In the absence of federal debt, a portion of such funding would likely have been used on private investment projects that could increase the future productive capabilities of the economy. Large or rapidly increasing debt levels could also make the economy more susceptible to a recession, although that dynamic has not manifested itself in the United States. This book explores distinctions in the concept and composition of deficits and debt, explains how these two measures interact, and discusses their possible effects on the economy. Mental disorders among children are described as "serious deviations from expected cognitive, social, and emotional development". A total of 13%20% of children living in the United States experience a mental disorder in a given year, and surveillance during 19942011 has shown the prevalence of these conditions to be increasing. Mental illnesses account for a larger proportion of disability in developed countries than any other group of illnesses, including cancer and heart disease. In 2004, an estimated 25% of adults in the United States reported having a mental illness in the previous year. The economic cost of mental illness in the United States is substantial, approximately $300 billion in 2002. Population surveys and surveys of health-care use measure the occurrence of mental illness, associated risk behaviours (e.g., alcohol and drug abuse) and chronic conditions, and use of mental health-related care and clinical services. This book summarises data from selected CDC surveillance systems that measure the prevalence and impact of mental illness in the U.S. child and adult populations.
