Neverending Nightmares is a psychological horror adventure game developed by Matt Gilgenbach and his independent studio Infinitap Games. The plot of the game was inspired by the personal experiences of the author who, after the financial failure of his previous production, Retro / Grade , fell into a severe depression. The creation of the title was supported by a successful crowdfunding campaign on the Kickstarter website.StoryThe game is a metaphorical story about human struggle with depression and mental disorders. During the game, we play the role of a certain Thomas, who wakes up from a nightmare with relief only to realize that the dream is not over, and the nightmare that haunts him continues. Trapped in his own mind, the protagonist moves from nightmare to nightmare, confronting his own fears and terrifying monsters waiting for his life.GameplayThe extensive plot of the game is non-linear and divided into various threads, which are shaped depending on the player's actions. A natural consequence of this nonlinearity are also three alternative endings. The atmosphere of the game is saturated with a heavy, even brutal atmosphere, dominated by black and white, lit only by the flame of a candle. Virtually the only vivid color we see during the game is the red of blood, which has been shed quite a lot throughout the story. The user interface has been kept to a minimum to further increase the immersion of the player with the presented world.Key featuresTerrifying nightmare worlds inspired by real life struggles with OCD and depression.
