Wildermyth is an ingenious, tactical RPG. The game was developed by a small, independent Worldwalker Games studio from Austin in the US state of Texas.
Wildermyth takes us on a journey to a fantastic land called the Yondering Lands. We experience various adventures in it, controlling three-person groups of heroes, each with their own story and personality. As we progress, our wards not only grow in strength, from simple farmers to battle-hardened heroes, but also establish various relationships, and even age, to finally depart in glory (or on the contrary, because how their fate depends on the decisions we make during the game).
We start playing Wildermyth with the creation of our team of daredevils. The statistics of its individual members are selected automatically, based on their history and personality (if the obtained effect does not suit us, the process can be repeated until successful), and we can freely modify their appearance. Although at the beginning of the game our pupils are ordinary farmers, as they progress, they become more and more specialized in a specific profession; so they can become fearless warriors, preferring ranged hunters or powerful mages.
Each game is a separate adventure in which we find ourselves on a unique map, where we have various missions to perform. In addition, our activities, such as moving around the world map, discovering new places and completing tasks, as well as fighting opponents, cause the passage of time. The events in which we take part affect not only the course of the story, but also our charges and the relations between them, which in turn is reflected, among other things, in their statistics or combat effectiveness; for example, friendly rivalry between the heroes may lead to the fact that they will deal more damage to their enemies, the fruit of the love of two lovers may be a descendant who, over time, will gain the opportunity to join our team, while the elderly hero is weaker and slower than the younger one.
Fighting opponents plays an important role here. The battles take place in turn-based mode, in arenas covered with a grid of square fields. Success is ensured not only by the skillful juggling of the heroes' combat abilities, but also by their proper deployment on the battlefield. As befits an RPG, as we progress, our pupils gain experience and better equipment, which allows them to face more and more challenges. If one of them happens to die, we can let him go or resurrect him; after the adventure is over, we can move our pupils to the next story.
