Blade Symphony is an online action game focused on fencing duels between players. This is the first commercial project of the independent Puny Human Games studio founded by the creators of the popular Dystopia mod for Half-Life 2 .
Gameplay
The game offers a training mode in which we can face artificial intelligence, but the heart of the game is network duels with other players. The authors have prepared an extensive combat system that is a creative development of the solutions from Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy . By controlling a warrior, we can switch between three fighting styles - fast, heavy and balanced. Each of them has different types of attacks and affects the strength of parrying. For example, heavyweight relies on slow moves, but when parrying, the player will win against an opponent who is using either quick or balanced moves. The characters of the players can also perform air attacks, for which the fourth automatically activated style is responsible.
The chosen weapon also influences the combat techniques. We start the game with three swords - a katana for dealing the heaviest damage, rewarding patience and attacking specific points with a rapier and a Chinese sword Jian that focuses on speed. There are three characters to choose from - each one specializing in a different fighting style. The duels are ruled by a physics engine that calculates all swords' movements. Wins are rewarded with points that can be spent on the purchase of new suits and swords, but all these items only have cosmetic functions and do not have any impact on the combat capabilities of the characters.
