GUBI Dédal Shelf Stone Gray

Designer: Mathieu Matégot in 1955 Concept: The Dédal shelf finds its inspiration in minimalist design and geometric shapes. The clean lines and the logical assembly of the shelf make it perfectly suitable for many different environments and will undoubtedly attract attention with its use of the technique Rigitulle, which combines perforated metal with metal pipes. It can be combined with several colors that add freshness to the room, or a single color that can make the shelf stand out as a sculptural element. Mathieu Matégot (1910 - 2001) was an independent and self-taught Hungarian designer, architect and artist. He lived most of his life in his beloved Paris where he settled in 1931, after graduating from the Hungarian University of Art and Design in Budapest. In 1939, Matégot volunteered for the Finnish army, but was captured in Germany until he fled in 1944. The war period played a career-important role for Martégot, as he became acquainted with the innovative material and technique Rigitulle, which today characterizes his style.

The bell-shaped Ronde Pendant in two sizes has reference to the traditional pendant lamp and the heyday of 1970's lightning design; however, in a modern interpretation. A unique detail of the Ronde Pendant is the opening on the top with an overhanging collar that reminds of a jar such as a vase or an amphora. He wanted to create a lamp that did not consist of the, at the time, otherwise so traditional base, bulb, shade construction. Curry wanted to create a lamp that combined the three components into an organic, colorful lamp. That desire resulted in the first '' Total look '' lamp, Stemlite . The design draws inspiration from flowers which, with their strong but thin stems, can hold a heavy flowerhead upright. This inspiration can be seen on the metal base which mimics the stem of a tulip. Via the mouth-blown glass globe on top, Stemlite emits a soft and pleasantly diffused light. Stemlite  was Bill Curry's best-selling collection and was also used to present American design in the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, and Iraq in the 1960s. The Semi Pendant is a unique pendant lamp, based on two quarter-circles put together, back-to-back. It's distinctive arch-shaped, enamelled metal shade creates a diffused, cone-shaped light, ideal over a dining table or kitchen work surface. With its lightness of form, unique timeless design and range of colours and sizes, the Semi Pendant is extremely versatile and well suited to both private and public spaces. The Semi Pendant was designed in 1968 as a product of the creative partnership between Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. Reacting against the soft organic forms, the so-called cosy era, that was dominating Denmark at the time, Bonderup and Thorup wanted to create a lamp that incorporated sharp, clean lines and a geometric shape. Their design was submitted for a competition at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture and won first prize. In the 1980s the pendant achieved great success and became, at that time, the best-selling Danish design and gained worldwide recognition and iconic status.
