Anthem is a cooperative TPP shooter with an MMO element, enriched with RPG elements and set in science fiction. The production was developed by the employees of the BioWare studio located in Edmonton, the team responsible for the company's greatest hits, such as the Dragon Age series or the first three installments of the Mass Effect series.
Story
The game takes us to a distant planet, abandoned by the ancient gods during its creation, which left many hostile beasts on it, and the "power of the anthem" - a tool for creating the world that everyone wants to possess and tame. Players take on the role of the so-called Freelancers, ie daredevils equipped with Javelin class power armor. Only they are able to face both the aggressive fauna of this world and the ruthless race of intelligent beings known as Scars, as well as the hostile human faction of the Dominion.
Gameplay
Anthem combines elements of a third-person shooter and MMORPG. Players start their adventure by choosing their first Javelin, and then take part in world exploration and mission completion, alone or with their comrades in arms. Completing tasks is rewarded with experience points, thanks to which we raise the level of our character and the acquired equipment.
We observe the events from a camera placed behind the protagonist's back. The combat is largely arcade and resembles classic shooters, but the main role here is played by Javelin's special abilities and area attacks. The game offers four models of power armor (Hunter, Storm, Colossus, Interceptor), with different levels of mobility and weapons; additionally, we can modify and improve them. All copies are equipped with jet engines, which facilitates the exploration of the planet and provides greater tactical freedom during fights. It should be noted that the game does not allow you to fly without restriction. Javelin motors overheat after a while; we can cool them down, for example, by falling flight or contact with water.
In Anthem, we can complete missions alone, with a group of friends or rely on random companions. On the other hand, the base of humanity, Fort Tarsis, is an individual place for each user. This is where we get to know the story of the game and choose missions. Thus, while the main Anthem universe develops for each user in the same way, at the same time, thanks to the database, they have the opportunity to learn the stories of numerous NPCs of their choice.
