It is a single-player game that has been in development for the best part of 11 years as the studio developing the game went through various financial and legal issues, but is here at last and more than lives up to the anticipatory promise! ABOUT THE GAME The game is a blend of first person shooter action, combined with an immersive simulation game and a horror game, all rolled into one and sent out into the world with an atmospheric open world for you to explore – if you are brave enough! You are one of a motley band of stalkers, which stands for: Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers and Robbers, who live on the fringes of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone making a meagre living as best they can. The stalkers make a living (and you play the game) by venturing into the heart of the contamination Zone to see what adventures and quests lie before you. The game is set in an alternate reality, where a second explosion wrought even more havoc on the surrounding area than the real 1986 event. This has created all sorts of uncanny changes to the known world, affecting, flora, fauna and everything else besides! (See more details about these antagonists below.) The Zone, and the area surrounding it, are moderately well populated with your fellow stalkers, but there is no such thing as friendship within the Zone. However, after a strenuous and successful battle, you might find likely kindred souls sitting around a campfire who you can join for a moment of respite and some campfire tales, before heading off again on your next quest. As they say in the Zone: you never get used to the Zone. There is no room for complacency or relaxation in this atmospheric and genuinely creepy locale! THE NITTY GRITTY The game features a huge story tree in which your decisions will affect not only the small immediate decisions but they will send ripples and tweak the entire length of the storyline arc, so decisions made in haste in the early stages could well become a source of extreme regret later on! With a decent inventory to hand, you can be armed with various weapons and gadgets that help you avoid the worst dangers, as long as you are smart, cautious and careful. These include devices such as telescopic lenses, Geiger counters, and anomaly detectors. Fight your way to the heart of Chernobyl and see what there is to find lurking in the depths of this wasteland – it is a waste land, yes, but it is definitely not barren… WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR A partial list of enemies and traps in the zone include: Anomalies – these nasty traps are soft spots in the area which only the unwary – and soon to be dead – wander into. You can spot them by the wavering glints in the air, and test them out by chucking rocks and logs into them to see if they fall normally or if something painful happens to them instead Mutants – in the years since the meltdown, something weird has happened to cells, both human and animal, in the zone. And the resulting creatures are not very happy about this at all… Some objects in the Zone have become powerful artefacts that are always valuable and that might help you – or they might vaporise you! Day Z for PC is a survival game set against the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse. It is located in a fictional area, the post-Soviet Chernarus (a portmanteau of Chernobyl/ Russia perhaps?), where the outbreak has seen most of the population become infected. The game is both first person and third person shooter multiplayer game. About the Game The premise is simple: the player must survive and achieve his or her mission without being infected by the aggressive zombies. As with many survival games, the player starts off with the bare minimum: the clothes they stand up in, a road flare and a rag. Using these, the player must explore the large world around them, venturing (carefully) into buildings and houses in search of supplies which include food and water that are vital to staying healthy and alive. Finding other garments allows the player to increase their carrying capacity so they can carry extra food, items to stay warm and weapons. Weapons tend to be melee weapons, but there are a small number of firearms to be scavenged too, so do keep your eyes open and explore each building and area of interest thoroughly Stay Healthy It is not only the zombie outbreak that players have to worry about, there are many other diseases waiting to strike down the unwary player. These include hepatitis, cholera and dysentery which are caught by drinking unsanitary water or eating rotten food. These conditions must be cured with the appropriate medications, which must be scavenged and saved until needed. If injured, players will bleed which will weaken them – losing clarity of vision and even becoming unconscious, which is not an ideal state when zombies are roaming about – unless bandaged promptly to stop the blood flow. Players can build shelters in which they can be safe while recovering or while making plans for future missions. There are hundreds of open access games for players to read embedded in the game too. Stay in Communication The multiplayer aspect of the game is highly important with communication with other online players paramount. When your character is within hailing distance of another, you will be able to talk to each other using the microphones in your headset: If you do not have a mic through which to speak, you can still communicate via a text box which will pop up on your screen Players can also communicate on a basic level with body movements and hand gestures – for example, if you want to surrender, you can raise your avatar’s hands over their head in the traditional submissive pose A ‘Whisper Channel’ is in production, which will allow allies to talk to each other without nearby enemies being able to overhear the plan. This will allow subtle stealth campaigns to be planned and executed, raiding camps and buildings that are controlled by others, without your plan being broadcast to the nearby world – including the people you are about to pounce on! Radios, too, are being considered, mainly as a form of two way communication, but also with the possibility of a player run radio station being incorporated into the game so if you have a budding DJ inside you, watch out for the introduction of this feature so you can entertain fighters and zombies alike with your wit, erudition and good taste in music
